The Verge dropped their Vivo Tab RT review sometime amidst today's passage of time http://www.theverge.com/2012/10/23/3536302/asus-vivo-tab-rt-review For $599 with keyboard dock... a keyboard dock that's much better than Surface's cover bullshit at the same price... If I'm getting a Windows 8 RT tablet, it's going to be this.
I'm sure this has been asked a million times but how do you open programs/search for programs, etc without a start button?
The start button isn't gone, it's hidden. Move the cursor to the bottom left corner and click, congratulations, you've opened the start screen.
There's always this too http://www.samsung.com/global/ativ/ativ_pc.html
I do want to see how the Atom tablets fare as well, though I'm sure Asus is cooking up one of their own. [editline]23rd October 2012[/editline] @benjgvps On Ars Technica's review of the Vivo:
Since the last time we got a glimpse of Asus' suggested pricing for the tablet and the dock, the company has made some changes—the dock originally cost $199 on top of the tablet's $599 starting price, but the $599 price now includes the dock, a fairly significant change that makes the VivoTab RT more competitive with Microsoft's Surface.
I think I'm set on the Thinkpad Tablet 2. The Digitizer and the fact that it doesn't run RT is what does it. Who knows, though. Still gonna wait for more information on the Surface Pro
Yeah, that's where I'm at. There's just not enough information about Windows 8 and how it will pan out for tablets. That and there's no shortage of competing products, which means you have to choose one (unless you're rich.)
So is there something I can download that gives me the start button back? Also, could it have a non annoying way to switch to metro easily (Like in the start menu itself)?
Uh, why the fuck is it hidden then? I thought the start button/functionality was removed entirely. [editline]23rd October 2012[/editline] I swear microsoft does the darnedest things...

I keep clicking chrome thinking it's the start button since it's the last icon on the bar now that the start icon is hidden.
Where are the seven inch Win8 media tablets? Seriously I want one.
hmm, i want an rt tablet. i wonder if they'll get jailbroken? also the asus tablet got higher score on the verge than the surface lmao
Fuck I was going to do the Windows 8 upgrade on Friday when it comes out, but it seems like my hard drive is failing..So I am going to have to wait till I get my drive replaced...
hmm, i want an rt tablet. i wonder if they'll get jailbroken?
I think they've got pretty good bootloader encryption. But it's always possible.
Windows RT has a proper RDP client included with desktop apps. It works really great with a touchscreen, handles gestures and shit. [editline]24th October 2012[/editline] It also has power shell, cmd, boring shit like paint and notepad, task manager. Basically vanilla with Windows 8 with office. Still a shame about no custom apps, but it's still pretty cool.
The verge review of Surface RT. I think that I'm gonna wait for the "true" surface before i decide anything...
i wonder if they'll get jailbroken?
if I get my hands on a tablet i'll definitely be taking a look into breaking open secureboot (as will many others). then in terms of windows rt exploits, it depends on how microsoft patches them (by force or quickly etc).
Rt uses windows update
I miss the time when programs weren't called "apps".
I miss the time when programs weren't called "apps".
Applications, programs, software. Same word. Why are you even here since you hate Windows 8?
Rt uses windows update
That is obvious, but is it turned on by default? do they select on first run how often? is it hard to disable? Im not sure if it will differ from standard Win8 yet.
'App' =/= gimped and functionally retarded program that runs on an under-powered (and usually ARM based) device. Came into use round about 2007 because iTards can't be arsed vocalize a 4 syllable word. 'Application' =/= a fully featured software package running on a proper computer.
yeah i agree because i still think of an iOS/Android app whenever someone says app to me. and everywhere i go people still refer to applications/program on a desktop pc.
I...actually want a Surface.
http://www.theverge.com/2012/10/23/3540550/microsoft-surface-review Harsh!
A 4 for ecoystem? That's just unfair. It's not even out. Of course it doesn't have apps and there's nothing they can do about that. What it does have is integration with all of MSs other services like Office, Xbox, IE etc.
http://www.theverge.com/2012/10/23/3540550/microsoft-surface-review Harsh!
The Verge has always hated Microsoft, they're honestly a complete joke and an insult to proper tech journalism. I've seen so many cases that make Engadget writers look like the team from AnandTech.
I just got my hands on W8 professional. I got it for free from my Uni via Dreamspark. So far it is great but I quickly got my hands on Start8. I bet everybody knows what it is but having the start button back and booting directly into desktop is great. Metro is fancy and all but I don't see myself using it very much.
where can i track people hacking windows rt? i want to know all about that thing
secureboot is a efi based system, you want to be looking into efi exploits, a quick google should show you what i mean. [editline]25th October 2012[/editline] and windows exploits are windows exploits as always lol
i mean like a forum a bit like xda developers (preferably with less idiots and ugly themes)
i mean like a forum a bit like xda developers (preferably with less idiots and ugly themes)
MDL? I'm not sure that they have anything on DEP and EFI exploits though for win8. Someone should consider opening something.
