I think this may have been asked but does the upgrade version let you do a fresh install?
yes
aww the upgrade thingy says roller coaster tycoon 2 wont work on windows 8 oh well at least there is hyper-v
Guys, will I be able to pause the download and switch my laptop off and then resume later on or do I have to leave the laptop on the whole time so I don't lose progress?
There we go, Windows 8 installed. I like how it even remembered what programs I had in startup on Windows 7.
I just realized that you disable startup applications from taskmgr. And it even shows their startup impact. Nifty.
I don't see why people hate the Metro screen? It's actually quite useful once you get it organized. Windows 8 feels like a huge improvement, I've actually even noticed everything going slightly faster. Some games I can even step it up a notch from Medium to High settings without worry. It's nice!
How do you label the different sections?
Here's a download link to the Windows 8 Upgrade assistant if you can't get it right now. http://filesmelt.com/dl/Windows8-UpgradeAssistant.exe
how are you guys buying win 8 already, the microsoft still isnt live (or are you guys living in timezones where it's friday already?)
how are you guys buying win 8 already, the microsoft still isnt live (or are you guys living in timezones where it's friday already?)
I live in Canada so i can't buy it right now till tomorrow of course.
How do you label the different sections?
Click on the zoom out button so all the apps zoom out. Select one of the areas and then click "Name group".
How do you label the different sections?
You see the little minus in the bottom right corner? Click it. Everything gets smaller, right click the group to select it and the option to rename it should appear.
how are you guys buying win 8 already, the microsoft still isnt live
My friend from Brazil has some college that let's him have 2 Microsoft products for free, any of his choice. Luckily he's deathly afraid of upgrading from XP and I managed to nab one of his downloads. Gave me a free key, apparently it's been out for students for over a month.
Thanks :v:
how are you guys buying win 8 already, the microsoft still isnt live (or are you guys living in timezones where it's friday already?)
I was able to start the download from http://windows.microsoft.com/ at some point around 1am-2am (it's currently 3:56am here).
Where are ModernUI apps installed to?
Click on the zoom out button so all the apps zoom out. Select one of the areas and then click "Name group".
Gadzooks. I've been using Windows 8 for weeks and I never realised this. Thank you.
Is the text in Metro/Modern apps a bit blurry/unclear for anyone else? Here's an example: (Taken from the "Yle Uutiset" app) Edit: Actually, here's a better example from the Store: As an example, look at the word "fully" on the first line; the first of the two l letters is noticably thicker than the second one.
Where are ModernUI apps installed to?
C:\Program Files\WindowsApps I believe.
C:\Program Files\WindowsApps I believe.
yeah found that out right after I posted
Install failed. I suspect the upgrade process doesn't like the symlink for the Users folder, so I have reduced the Users folder in size so I can get rid of the symlink temporarily.
I have a key for Windows 8, is there a way to skip the upgrade assistant because it wants me to buy it.
I don't think so. If you got a key already, you should be able to get the ISO wherever you got the key
so does anyone know how to use secure boot? My Ivy Bridge motherboard actually supports it :v: are there any down sites to secure boot? I don't dual boot so no Linux worries
so does anyone know how to use secure boot? My Ivy Bridge motherboard actually supports it :v: are there any down sites to secure boot?
did you look in the manual for information and saying "my ivy bridge motherboard" isn't going to really help. the interface is going to differ between motherboards.
I found the option in the EUFI, I guess the same instructions from here will work, I'll also check the bios http://communities.intel.com/community/vproexpert/blog/2012/06/26/microsoft-windows-8--enabling-secure-boot

I won't be able to upgrade to windows 8 because the last driver for any part of my old ass computer (about 4 or 5 years old) came out in 2009, and apparently there are no longer any drivers for my dell IN1910N monitor, I wish my parents weren't near the poverty line so they could afford shit, but they always seem to have money for beer... But anyways I am unlucky for not being able to upgrade to windows 8 correctly.
Downloading now. Have to say I'm a bit exited!
