Alright, one final question before I upgrade. I have steam and a few other programs installed on my secondary hard drive, with my OS and most of my programs on my main SSD. Will I need to reinstall Steam when I'm done upgrading? And I can be sure that 8 will install on C:/ and won't mess up my non-primary drive, right?
aww the upgrade thingy says roller coaster tycoon 2 wont work on windows 8
oh well at least there is hyper-v
I have the GOG version of Roller Coaster Tycoon Deluxe and it works in Windows 8.
Is Windows 8 available to download yet? I'm using release preview and I don't see the buy button on the site yet.

And if you don't trust a random filesmelt exe, http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkID=262205
Hmm, this may be for Canada only. I can only put Canadian provinces in the "state" section of the billing info.
Pre-sold six copies of Windows 8 Pro and four of these within the past two days with Windows 8 upgrades.

The Touchsmart works really well with Windows 8, a seamless transition from what the Windows 7 touch was like.
People are really excited for the new OS.
I won't be able to upgrade to windows 8 because the last driver for any part of my old ass computer (about 4 or 5 years old) came out in 2009, and apparently there are no longer any drivers for my dell IN1910N monitor, I wish my parents weren't near the poverty line so they could afford shit, but they always seem to have money for beer...
But anyways I am unlucky for not being able to upgrade to windows 8 correctly.
Have you tried the release preview? Drivers from Vista should still work in 8 so you could still use the old drivers.
Yep. That Windows 8 Upgrade Assistant link is for Canada.
Anybody have a US version?
Oh and is there a way to add new images to the tiles for the desktop applications yet?

Well, I've been trying to get the link through a UK proxy, but it still cock blocks me.

Just bought 2 copies of windows 8. Will my release preview expire tomorrow or am I safe until I get them in the mail?
And with amazon, does anyone know if they give you $30 codes or if the credit is tied to the account?

The RP expires January 15 2013.
Finally Windows 8 is out (even though I was running it since August), now the real fun begins - make bets on how soon will Metro apps get hacked and Aero gets brought back.
So lately Win8 has been using 23% of my RAM while idle when normally it used to only use 18%. Any help here? I'm using 4GB RAM.
Dunno, mine uses 34% of my 8 GB with Chrome open, but memory is meant to be used
Dunno, mine uses 34% of my 8 GB with Chrome open, but memory is meant to be used
Yeah... it just bugs me. I feel like since it's using more memory that it's performing worse and I'm really big on having my PC perform as best as it possibly can, because I don't have much of a computer anymore.
So far I'm finding windows 8 incredible, I don't really understand what everyone was complaining about. Took me around 30 mind of playing around to get used to the new layout and navigation techniques. But since then it's been faster and more ergonomic to use. Really recommend it!
Ikr? I honestly REALLY like the new internet explorer metro app and would totally use it as my primary browser, if it wasn't for the fact that I can't import all of my bookmarks, extensions, and form data from chrome.
Now only if chrome had an actual metro ui....
Does the Windows 8 Upgrade assistant give you an option to make an iso? instead of installing with the exe..
If I buy Windows 8 with the 'Download Pro for $39.99' option, will I be able to use it more than once when I switch to an SSD? (Upgrade once on my current HDD, and another time when I make an install on an SSD for a clean install) I've got the Release Preview running on a 60GB SSD, and my Windows 7 install is on my old HDD but it's pretty slow compared to when I booted on the SSD before.
I just don't want to have to buy it multiple times when I want to start fresh.

yes. it can make an iso for a dvd or make a bootable usb disk
[editline]26th October 2012[/editline]
also, Xbox Music is dog shit. Like way worse than the earlier music apps they had.

Thanks.

yes, you can use the key multiple times, just not with two different machines at the same time
[editline]26th October 2012[/editline]
i'd assume microsoft were making awful default apps on purpose to encourage development like google did but i assume they actually want to make money with xbox music so probably not
Seems like it's not available for Canada just yet.
Yup, 12:17 EST and it's not up.
Edit: EDT, not EST. Maybe that's messing it up.

sounds like it's caching more things that you normally use.
[editline]26th October 2012[/editline]
it's kind of weird that people pay attention to free RAM these days. it used to matter because we didn't have much but really Chrome could be using 2GB of RAM right now and i would be none the wiser.
Any neat Metro apps?
found this for people on Windows 8 already http://windows.microsoft.com/en-AU/windows-8/feature-packs Windows Media Center!!
