What kind of problem? Some people here said it would only let them put in Canadian provinces (and the best solution to that is obviously to move to Canada)
Yeah, that was me and only me. I am not moving to Canada, thank you.
So what's the general feeling? Is it worth upgrading yet if it's my secondary OS?
Also how much space does the os take up (vs 7)?
I'll be posting this regardless of whether it's been posted already:

This thing lets you create your own full-sized metro tiles! Use it!

This. Also, is the performance upgrade noticeable? And can you configure window transparency in the Pro version?
Oh man what
I've disabled IE and updated nvidia drivers, restarted
and now on startup, after the blue flag, it just stays black, but both of my screens blink on and off separately. it's like they're trying to talk to me in morse code or something.
gotta film it, it's surreal
it just hangs there.
any suggestions?

I've reinstalled 8 13 times now since it was released on MSDNAA because of the black screen bug. (Sadly that's not an exaggeration) Try a System Restore.
What's happening is DWM is fucking up because it's unstable as shit in 8. In the Dev/Consumer/Release Preview's it'd fall back to Aero basic and the black screen would be on whatever monitor the start screen was on (or if you have one monitor just a black screen always).
I just bought windows 8.
It may be a dumb decision but to be honest I just wanted a change. I don't use my laptop for anything fancy so I thought a new interface would be cool. I can always revert back to windows 7 if I dont like it.

It's not a dumb decision at all. Most people who frequent this thread actually like Windows 8, however strange that might seem.

Awesome program, none the less. :) More people should know.

I'll try a system restore, thanks
Is there a sure way to access the recovery mode screen? F8 doesnt seem to do anything... I got into it by luck somehow
Anybody here had any success with upgrading from RTM 9200 build? If so I'd like to know how since nothing is working for me.
I need to purchase a key, not update.

They're identical, you're already using release as long as you're Windows Updated. It shouldn't let you update.
Why would you upgrade from the RTM?
Do you know what RTM actually means?

Are you dual booting or single booting?
If you're single booting I really don't know because that period where you could hit F8 is too fast so Microsoft added the ability to go to that F8 menu via a button in the control panel. Which I'm not sure they thought it through because you can't reach it if the OS won't boot.
You could pop in the DVD and see if it'll take you there when you click the recover button on the installer window.
I don't need to update, I need to use that Updater Assistant to get a key.

single-booting.
I'm doing a system restore right now.
Do you think it was updating the nvidia driver that caused that? seems like it could be the culprit

Most likely.
Most likely.
Kinda sucks. I guess I'll make sure to stick to the ones that come bundled with Windows for now. Then again, my fault that I decided to install the beta drivers ahahahaha
Is MS aware of DWM being unstable, as you put it? I really don't want to have to go back to 7, not after I saw how sleek 8 was haha

happened to me once or twice, bare in mind it was 8400
Switching to one display temporarily and configuring the panel properly before putting the other in again made it work right
Stick with the stable drivers, by the way. Unless something is extremely broken otherwise.

Do you mean I should unplug my second screen next time it happens, before booting?
Reposting for new page, how can I purchase a license without using that Update Assistant?
Do you mean I should unplug my second screen next time it happens, before booting?
Pretty much.
Fiddle with the settings in the panel before plugging it in next time.

I'm not sure why someone would actually opt for WMC in 2012
XBMC is a far better HTPC solution.
So uh, the system restore is done, now the black screens don't blink anymore v:v:v
Oh wait they still do... slower though
[editline]26th October 2012[/editline]
I can see my mouse on it! And the cursor is blinking. uh oh.

Tried this, have yet to get a key.
Anyone know why metro apps "close" when launched ?
My mother's pc does that, it works fine on my pc.
Also by "close" i mean that i doesn't actually closes but it runs in the background.
However when you open it it goes back into the background again.

I think I read somewhere that the upgrade assistant will run on Windows 8 RP. Unfortunately you're going to have to do a clean install of that, or of something else (7, Vista, or XP).

It seems to be a problem related to upgrade installs. There's no known solution yet, except doing a clean install. I don't think the specific cause is known either.
