How are the load times?
From cold to metro is pretty fast. For me on a 7200rpm hard drive it takes around 30 seconds to get to metro. It takes around 30 more seconds for the desktop to become responsive.
I am extremely low on money, and i want to get windows 8. But for the $40, which is rather allot for me at the moment, is it worth or, or should i stick to windows 7 until i get myself a job

I have an oldass WD Caviar that loads all the way up to desktop in less than 15secs, including the time it takes for me to unlock, type in my password, and click on desktop.
Laptops and low end computers can really benefit from W8. I would say yes, except if those 40 dollars are what you've got left for food until the 1st or something :v:
Trying to get my laptops Intel Centrino 1030 to work with Windows 8 is a huge pain. Installed all of Intel's crapware and it still doesn't work after it's "PROSet Wireless Software" and "Intel My Wifi Dashboard Software" Tips?
After installing Windows 8 RTM on my spare hard drive, my Windows 7 Pro has been really fucking up lately.

Also i just checked my bank account and i saw that my google payment had gone through. Looks like i will be getting it then Found it, 5
Argh what the FUCK. My 250GB drive isn't showing up in My Computer since I installed W8. When I open up Disk Management it tells me to initialize that drive, but when I do, it just says "Data error (cyclic redundancy check)". For some reason it's being read as an unallocated 500GB drive according to Disk Management. I hooked up the drive on my spare computer and it works just fine. Chkdsk doesn't pop up with anything, and I'm able to access/edit the files on it. I've tried switching SATA cables, switching ports, but nada. I always end up getting weird ass problems.

Microsoft only records the time from bootup to metro start screen as their faster boot times. [editline]27th October 2012[/editline] Also my hard drive is fragmented like crazy after going from 7 to 8 RP to 8 Pro so that is not helping at all
How are the boot times?
Amazingly quicker. Hi quick questions before I download and install windows 8. I have Windows 8 RTM from when it came out a while back off of dreamspark. 1 ) When does the RTM expire? I am a lazy shit that will wait 60 years to update anything if it really doesn't need it. 2) Do I need to format the hard drive with windows on it (again). I am staying on 64 bit with the same specs and shit. 3> Is the full version on dreamspark.
Is it normal for hard drives performance to degrade over time, even after a reformat?

Went to a laptop store today, they wanted to charge me for a version of Windows 7 for the new machines :suicide: . I can't express how angry Windows 8 makes me. I'm not making an argument, just putting it out there.
What store was this?
JB Hifi. I thought Windows 8 Licences worked with 7.

So I got to setup a Windows RT device at work. Seems that msi package installers don't work with it, and I got too distracted by customers to run a executable package. Otherwise we had four copies of Windows 8 at the end of the night out of 50. Tomorrows gonna be a fun day, and thank god I pre-ordered mine yesterday and just took it home with me, installing now :D
Soluto now has a option to boot direct to desktop while automatically installing a start menu: http://blog.soluto.com/2012/10/get-windows-8-classic-desktop-back-with-soluto/
1 ) When does support for the original RTM that was given out with DreamSpark end? 2 ) Will my shit be saved from the dreamspark RTM to the actual retail thing.
The 8 on DreamSpark is a regular retail build so at the same time. RTM and retail are the same build, they're just released at different times. There's nothing different between them.

There's like 20 already. And all of them are exact replicas of 7's start menu. It's starting to get annoying, surely if you're going to make yet-another-start-menu you'd at least improve upon it. Just bought windows 8 pro for $15. About to install it. [editline]27th October 2012[/editline]
Is it normal for hard drives performance to degrade over time, even after a reformat?
HDDs are generally fine for a long time, its always good though to do a reformat if your getting to 70% full just to get rid of all the clutter. Any performance degradation would just most likely be from fragmentation or the HDD being full.
Is it normal for hard drives performance to degrade over time, even after a reformat?
try defragging it
Does anybody know if it'd be possible to install Windows 8 Pro OEM on multiple computers that I own? I'd love to install it on both my desktop and laptop without having to cough up money for two licenses. Seems like the agreement states only one computer per license, does anybody know if there is there any actual limitation, e.g. license getting suspended or just outright refusing to install?
