Why would overwhelmed servers lead Microsoft to believe I am in Canada? What am I failing to understand here?
What's your ISP?
I just want to know why they're forcing us to buy it though an app. It's just stupid.
If your talking about the upgrade assistant, that app is what installs windows 8 onto your computer. They probably just thought it convenient to be able to buy and install it from the single app.
Too bad it doesn't work :v:
What's your ISP?
I have campus internet through a major university in Oregon. I can confirm that another student on this network used the program, and it also believed he was in Canada as well.
So, I have two email accounts, one for my Xbox Live and one as a separate ms account. Is there anyway to change the email address on the Xbox Live one to my normal one?
Buy it through someone with a Windows 7 PC. Have your promo code ready, when you get the email, you'll get a link to a "Windows Installer" executable.
It's the installer that's broken, ordering it on a Win 8 PC has nothing to do with the purchasing issues.
After reading a few pages back and people asking about the $40 price, if you use this http://www.windowsupgradeoffer.com/ you can get windows 8 pro for $15, just make sure the date of purchase of windows 7 or whatever is after june. Also does anyone know why some of my metro apps dont work, like store, photos, video, mail etc.
Messing around making some custom tiles.
Can I still turn taskbar icons back into the old kind (rectangles with words instead of just confusing icons)?
I need to get some custom tiles for my games.
Can I still turn taskbar icons back into the old kind (rectangles with words instead of just confusing icons)?
Yes, you can. Just like in Windows 7.
Messing around making some custom tiles.
I am (surprisingly) jealous at your icons, despite them being very simple. How can you make custom tiles?
Yes, you can. Just like in Windows 7.
Sweet, buying with the $15 offer now. Tiles ahoy! Bye bye 'this copy of windows is not genuine' bollocks.
Son of a bitch it's back.
Messing around making some custom tiles.
If you have the time, could you upload the image of the tile from Steam and Photoshop? Also, if anyone else wants to make their own tiles, use Oblytile: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1899865 I think it was posted here awhile back, but I'm not exactly sure.
Other than the graphical bug that I'll have to figure out later, I think W8 looks p awesome.
This may be a dumb question, but does using the factory reset or "Refresh" (i think thats the one where it wipes compeltely) use up one of my activations? [editline]27th October 2012[/editline]
try getting the discount like Jordguitar and I did. Just go to the special offer page, put some random recent PC model and that's it.
I love you
OR OR OR You can just delete it like a normal and logical person.
Replying to a post from two pages ago, but... I tried. It told me I didn't have access. I gave myself full access. Apparently I still didn't have access. I tried to delete it using an elevated command prompt. Still no access. Tried to change the owner to my user... no access. The clean-up utility, however, deleted it straight away.
[IMG_thumb]http://i.imgur.com/iikKx.jpg[/IMG_thumb] One would think that Microsoft would make Media Center metro-y... or at least change it IN THE SLIGHTEST WAY. EDIT: Now that I think about it, this is really dumb. Aren't they trying to sell Media Center separate? They're trying to sell something that has been the exact same since Vista. Shame. I hope they change it up. I was looking forward to a new, metro media center.
Interestingly, Media Centre was one of the first examples of Metro, along with Zune.
Having some problems with sound card drivers. These Creative ones I have installed have three audio "modes" you can use and when I start W8, there are no sounds until I change that mode from the driver control panel (doesn't matter if I change it back to what it was, it just needs to be changed for sounds to work). I tried reinstalling the drivers, but the same thing still happens. I wonder if they just aren't fully compatible with W8.
I am (surprisingly) jealous at your icons, despite them being very simple. How can you make custom tiles?
As TDocter said below, use the program called Oblytile.
If you have the time, could you upload the image of the tile from Steam and Photoshop?
Your monitor is oriented wrongly
Thats my coding monitor in portrait, my main monitor is a dell 30". Bios and everything before windows loads displays on the code screen.
Guys, I have a few questions pls. 1. It says the order total is £14.99, and then lists the VAT price below. Does the £14.99 include VAT? 2. My Windows 7 copy is not genuine, can I still upgrade? 3. Will the Windows 8 key activate Windows 7 if I don't like it? 4. Are there any programs/games that are incompatible? thanks xoxo

I haven't found any.
