So I'm guessing Windows 8 is really good and much better than people have been making it out to be?
With some work you can really turn it into something great, though I still prefer the old search, but that's worth sacrificing with all you get in return.
I have campus internet through a major university in Oregon. I can confirm that another student on this network used the program, and it also believed he was in Canada as well.
It's your connection then. Go to some other place on another network and buy it.
How do I get permission from SYSTEM to make changes to that folder?
Just use the disk cleanup tool, it does it for you.
Is it worth updating to windows8 if I don't plan on using the metro menu thing? I'd use start8 or some other program and boot straight into desktop.
I have campus internet through a major university in Oregon. I can confirm that another student on this network used the program, and it also believed he was in Canada as well.
You're probably going to have to use an anonymous proxy or VPN then.
While I love Win8 on my laptops, I loathe it when it comes to my desktop. Just installed it on a spare HDD, and it was such a terrible experience. None of my drivers worked, Metro doesn't want to work with my tablet and I couldn't even personalize it because I was in the trial period, what the fuck. I do have to say that I really like it on my laptops, though. Looking forwards to getting a Win8 tablet.
I'll be upgrading to w8 today or tomorrow, can anyone tell me if the upgrade assistant allows you to save an .iso file at some step of the process? Does it allow you to save it before installing the OS?

That google search app, is what metro chrome should look like. Man the UI is seeeeeexy.
I can't seem to pick 5.1 anymore! :(
Does anyone know why the mail, weather, store, messages, people, news, skydrive, photos, videos, reader, and travel apps do not work. They just open to full screen then promptly close, no error message, just closes. [editline]27th October 2012[/editline] I cant even install the google app, there is no install button on the website. Look at that shit.
Just use the disk cleanup tool, it does it for you.
Worked like a charm Now, is there a way so that if I'm in a call in Skype from the Metro UI, it doesn't mute itself when I switch to desktop?
Worked like a charm Now, is there a way so that if I'm in a call in Skype from the Metro UI, it doesn't mute itself when I switch to desktop?
I switched back to the desktop app because it lacks so much, maybe I'm missing something but where are all the settings? Plus no box when tabbing out of the application can be annoying.
That google search app, is what metro chrome should look like. Man the UI is seeeeeexy.
I'd use the shit out of it, if it had all the features normal browsers have.
You're probably going to have to use an anonymous proxy or VPN then.
Ugh. That is incredibly stupid and bizarre.
Son of a bitch it's back.
No suggestions? :C *Other than reinstalling GPU drivers. I know that fixes it, but I'd rather not do that every single time it happens...
Installed in a VM, I like it. What's the current state of licensing / permanent installs? Will I totally have to reinstall and wipe when it's released on the 26th? Version I have installed is the RP, I assume I'd want the RTM version?

When you install RTM, you'll have to do a clean install. You can buy the upgrade version of RTM right now for $40. 15$ promo code?
I get the pro version free with my college dreamspark account. :v: This is a huge improvement from the consumer preview/release preview.
Anyone still having purchasing issues?
Anyone still having purchasing issues?
Support just keeps telling me to try again later. I tried using a VPN, but the app still thought I was in Canada. Idk if I failed to configure my VPN correctly, though.
That google search app, is what metro chrome should look like. Man the UI is seeeeeexy.
shame that app is broken. I can't click on the links and it fucks up when you snap it to the side.
Support just keeps telling me to try again later. I tried using a VPN, but the app still thought I was in Canada. I'm still on the Release Preview. Am I missing much from the official release?
Did you call the store support number? I planned on calling them when I get back from walking my dog.
I talked to the main customer service number and store support. All the store support said they could do was help me purchase a $70 dvd, so that wasn't helpful at all.
I talked to the main customer service number and store support. Usually to get their support to do anything is to either be an ass or keep telling them they're ruining the user experience because of small/stupid issues. Last time I did that they gave me a few Windows 7 keys since my old key suddenly stopped working.
I switched back to the desktop app because it lacks so much, maybe I'm missing something but where are all the settings? Plus no box when tabbing out of the application can be annoying.
That's sad. The metro Skype had so much potential.

Having problems with my Intel Centrino 1030 adapter working with Win 8 so I posted a thread in Tech Support, thought it'd be good to post a link here though. http://www.facepunch.com/showthread.php?t=1221374&p=38210307#post38210307 Any help is appreciated, would love to finally start using Win 8
