I know you're new here, but don't do that.
Shit guys, my wifi is off and greyed out for the charm bar, and my wireless toggle button doesn't work. Any ideas on how to turn it on?
I'm not sure why someone would actually opt for WMC in 2012
XBMC is a far better HTPC solution.
Even VLC is better. It's all I've ever needed for years.
I'm not too optimistic that Intel is going to release an official Windows 8 driver for the GMA 4500MHD. Force installing the Windows 7 driver isn't great, since I sometimes get a BSOD after playing Minecraft for 20 minutes or so. The Royal BNA driver works well, though the 64bit version will cause sleep and hibernation not to work...
It's a shame, a Core 2 Duo and the GMA 4500MHD are perfectly capable of running Windows 8.

Well, there is an official driver: the one that comes with Windows 8. But it doesn't support OpenGL. I'm not sure why. They're probably not planning to ever release one with OpenGL support.
So I decided to throw in my credit card to try out that whole Xbox Music Pass.
Shit's actually pretty cool, gonna showcase it at work and try it out a little more.
so how does one pin shut down to the start menu?
so how does one pin shut down to the start menu?
Why would you need to? Just go under settings on your side menu and you got it there.
so how does one pin shut down to the start menu?
Just press Windows key + I.
Also, Firefox in windows 8 seems to have massive stability issues for me. Anybody else? It seems especially crash prone on flash-heavy sites like youtube.
Other than that and my facebook account not syncing at all, Windows 8 is a-okay.
is it possible to switch from IDE to AHCI without needing to reinstall Windows? I suspect that's why my friend's 7200RPM drive is feeling slow
[editline]27th October 2012[/editline]
also does anyone know where the default lock screen photos are located?
Sony Vegas won't save my registration. is it some registry bug from 7 to 8?
Do Windows shortcuts not work for anyone else?
Using a Logitech G510 if it matters.
Is there anyway to run metro apps on both of my screens?

What? Do you mean the windows button? If so make sure your "game switch" if set to off (slid to the left and not glowing).
Is there anyway to run metro apps on both of my screens?
Narp.
Narp.
No hacks/tweaks/mods? Nothing at all?
No hacks/tweaks/mods? Nothing at all?
To have two metro apps open on different screens would be to have two instances of metro. the best you can do is pin an app to the side and have the other open
No hacks/tweaks/mods? Nothing at all?
I'm pretty sure there is not. Windows 8 was literally released 2 days ago... there's still some time before the good software/mods/apps start coming out.
Well thats stupid.
my disk and memory usage is really while idling after installing windows 8
why
[editline]28th October 2012[/editline]
also is there a way to make it so that whenever a permission prompt pops up it doesn't single it out and fade out everything?

You talking about memory usage being higher? Me too... Mine went from 18% to 23%.

You going to want to change your UAC settings. Open up control panel (category view) --> User Accounts and Family Safety --> User Accounts --> Change User Account Control Settings
I usually just turn it off so I don't have to deal with it. If you want to keep it on, though but not dim... select the second from bottom.
If you disable UAC, I also suggest turning off SmartScreen. Press Windows Button + Pause/Break (or go to Computer --> Properties) --> See Also "Action Center" --> Change Windows SmartScreen settings --> "Don't do anything"
Is there seriously no clock that's easy to access?
I mean, you can press winkey+c but that's kinda irritating.

... the taskbar?
For those interested in changing their VS a bit, here's some that look rather good:

http://liveordietm.deviantart.com/art/AeroByDesign-For-Windows-8-332837388
These are especially handy if you want to have a darker style, while being able to read the text clearly above.
Don't forget to install UltraUXthemepatcher if you wish to use these:

You might have to reinstall the theme patcher once in awhile because of Windows updates.
thanks
also about the disk usage, there was a process called microsft antimalware executable or something along those lines that was eating up my disk usage for some reason, after googling it other people seemed to have the same problem so i ended it
is there a way to stop it from starting up at all?
i tried the services but it wasn't listed in there and i have windows defender off

As far as I know, there is not. I use to be able to disable it in Win7 when you only got it from Microsoft Security Essentials.
It does eat up some memory,though... with it on my memory usage is ~25%.

That second one is very nice. I'm going to wait a little bit, though before I change my theme from default.

While using the metro interface...

Something to do, I suppose.
