Just installed Windows 8. Unfortunately, I couldn't keep all my files and applications. :(
you enjoy your metro i enjoy start8
Enjoy your ricer.
Snipped, I found out how to create an Oblytile to My Computer without errors. I can't wait until people start creating legit tiles that aren't just images copy pasted. I like the metro theme, so it just feels... wrong to defile the Metro with a badly cropped image for a game tile.
How did you manage to create an Oblytile to My Computer without errors?
what the fuck, Windows update installed a new nvidia driver and everything went shit, my monitor was black, and I couldn't do anything. Sometimes the Desktop showed up for 2 secs and then it was gone again. Thank you system restore. [editline]1st November 2012[/editline] I guess max had the same problem earlier.
How did you manage to create an Oblytile to My Computer without errors?
Make a shotcut for My Computer to some folder, and use that shortcut. You won't be able to select it, so use the folder name and then the same of the shortcut. Like this: C:\Shortcuts\Computer, Computer is the name of the shortcut.

After trying other methods that kept giving errors, I gave up and went back to making tile icons.
Why did they remove the transparent theme that came with the RP again? I think think they should have given people the option and turned it off by default. Was it because some of the integrated cards can't handle it? I think they need to put stickers on Windows 8 PCs so Joe average knows which PCs have touch screens and which don't.
Prebuilt PC's ship with monitors now? or do you mean laptops?
Well laptops and those touchscreen all in one PCs. I've seen people trying to scroll across on normal screens.
I'd really like to give Win8 a try but I'm worried about incompatibility with programs I currently use. Is there any problems with hardware at the moment? I wanted to wipe my hard drives clean soon and re-install Win7 but I figured since 8 is here and the majority of you enjoy it I would go for it since it's only $40.
There's no one forcing you to upgrade, a lot of people wait until the first service pack or until a few months after anyway so that most of the major bugs are gone
this is probably an incredibly stupid question, but i have office 2010, is it possible to get 'metro app' versions of it?
so uh, how do you shut down your pc without doing ctrl alt del
so uh, how do you shut down your pc without doing ctrl alt del
The power button ob the front of my case works well. Laptop too.
so uh, how do you shut down your pc without doing ctrl alt del
Create a new shortcut and type the command 'shutdown -s' right click and click pin to start.
so uh, how do you shut down your pc without doing ctrl alt del
sidebar>settings>power
so uh, how do you shut down your pc without doing ctrl alt del
Mouse in right top corner, move down, click settings, click the power icon, then choose shut down.
My file transfers are a LOT slower. It took almost an hour or two to move a 4-5 gigabyte folder. This is a LOt different from 7. Software installations are slower too. Please help me out here, if this is NOT normal.

Is it just me or is the settings menu an odd place to put the power button?
Contemplating upgrading to Windows 8, how does the download feature work? I'm not too bothered about keeping my programs, everything has slown down quite a lot as it is at the moment so I'd probably want to wipe my computer anyways. Is there a way to put the Windows 8 download onto a USB key or something? I'm fearful of what will happen if I have to reformat my PC in the future. How does the 1 PC limit work, can I deactivate Windows 8 on this PC and install it on another? How does it all work! I looked on their website but it's very unhelpful and basically implies that I download Windows 8, install it and that's all there is to it.
Is it just me or is the settings menu an odd place to put the power button?
On the desktop: Bad place On a tablet: Reasonable, because you don't turn it off every day.
How old is your drive? How many files are in this 4-5gb folder? AFAIK win8 has slightly decreased file copy speeds compared to win7.
It's fairly new, I believe. It's a 500 GB SATA HDD. It's not SSD, though. well, it was a Skyrim folder, so I didn't have to download it for 2 hours. In the end, it still took 2 hours, so...
On a tablet: Reasonable, because you don't turn it off every day.
Same goes for laptops
Is it just me or is the settings menu an odd place to put the power button?
Putting a "Stop" button in the "Start" menu doesn't make that much sense either, it's just something we're used to. [editline]1st November 2012[/editline] And well, you "set" the state of the computer to powered off.
Really, it's nothing to get mad about. I think it's a good thing because it makes it less possible to shut a computer down accidentally.
On the desktop: Bad place On a tablet: Reasonable, because you don't turn it off every day.
well I think they could place it at the bottom of the charms bar, like this [t]http://goo.gl/WTg40[/t] color doesn't match but you get the Idea

I just copied my cs:go folder (5gig+) and it took 9minutes.
