Do W7 ATI drivers work on W8?
Yes, it works very good with my HD7950.
Do W7 ATI drivers work on W8?
They do but ATI has W8 drivers on their website if you want to be a little more sure.
Winkey+I, power, shut down. Takes all of 3 seconds.
That still doesn't change the fact that shutting down your system via its power settings makes little sense when comparing it to previous Windows versions. The Metro UI has plenty of empty space along the top, there is literally no reason for them not to add a shutdown button at either end of the screen.

And as previously stated if it bothers you that much pin it to your start menu.
I can deal perfectly fine with all the changes MS has made with W8. Even the Metro UI has pleasantly surprised me. But why is shutting my system down such an arbitrarily stupid process? 7 had it perfectly. Hit start button, shut down, bam. In 8? Move your mouse to the top right, hit settings, power, shut down. Is adding a shutdown button in the start menu so hard? Why such an unnecessarily lengthy process?
You can also press your physical power button.
False, you can buy key from Windows 8, install from Windows 8. LEARN PEOPLE.
My chat with customer support last night.
Me: I am thinking of changing to Windows 8, do you offer standalone products rather than upgrades? Kelly: That's a great question! Kelly: I'd be happy to help you with that today! Kelly: Unfortunately we only offer upgrades at this time. What version of Windows are you currently running? Me: I wanted to install to a new hard drive. Kelly: You would need a Windows 7 or XP license in order to upgrade to Windows 8 Me: Would it need to be installed already? Kelly: yes it would. that would have to be running prior to installing the upgrade for Windows 8 Me: Ok, and presumably, having the Release Preview running wouldn't count. Kelly: you can upgrade from the release preview, you would just go about it in a different process, however it would still require a valid key from windows 7 or xp Me: But then I wouldn't have to install 7 or XP. Kelly: right, you would just need to have a valid key to input when prompted from either one of them, in order to properly upgrade from the release preview.
I simply did a clean install with my Windows 8 Pro CD (not system builder). Just boot from the CD and choose advanced.
My chat with customer support last night.
She's wrong, I installed Windows 8 with the key I bought directly from Windows 8 RMT Enterprise. So you DON'T need to have anything other than Windows 8 installed.
So, today I booted my desktop (release preview) up like usual and, it logged into a temporary account, it told me to check event log and such, and I saw a whole load of disk errors, currently running chkdsk maybe that'll fix it. I suppose it might be just a corrupt user account, could be an actual disk problem too. EDIT: It ended up being faulty hard drive, the seagate site says it's still in warranty so that's good.

To install Windows 8 Pro, customers must be running Windows XP SP3, Windows Vista, or Windows 7. If you would like to upgrade from Windows 8 to Windows 8 Pro, click here .

As I and others said, you can install Windows 8 without actually running Windows 7. You can do a clean install without using the upgrade option.

It just seems strange that Microsoft would be giving out the wrong advice, both on the product page and through their support.
Not if you burn the .iso image, which the upgrade assistant downloads and prepares for you.
You don't even have to burn it. Just install from within Windows itself.
So Here I am, standing in front of my Windows 8 PC wich refuses to boot, because some update failed. Automatic error repair fails. and Microdick removed the F8 option to boot into safemode. I am mad as FUCK [editline]1st November 2012[/editline] FUCK it has to BSOD 2 times before going into Repair mode. And Safemode/Debugging/Logging mode doesen't even show wich driver it hangs at, because they removed it. FUUUCK

i'm planning on making the drive to micro center and picking up the Vivo Tab today as I've been paid and have a good amount of old electronics in the queue for liquidation however the MS store is equidistant and i'm still on the fence on whether I want the surface for its quality or the vivo tab for the transformer dock.
Anyone know how to change the settings of apps so they stop being "live" when I'm running on battery? Actually, does anyone know if this makes a difference in battery life? I feel as if apps are pretty low power-consumption wise, but you never know I guess.
Metro apps? Metro has some aggressive resource management so the only thing that's actually eating up your battery is the currently open Metro app.
Metro apps are suspended when they are not in the foreground. They only consume memory at that point.
