If your computer is within arms reach, why are you guys not using the power button on the case its self?
It ruins the fun of hide and seek. I don't see what the big fuss is about. Move top left, move down and click a button (settings), click a button (power), click a button (shutdown). Move bottom right, click a button (start), click a button (shut down). It isn't that much different, just another button to click and a bit of movement.

Hey guys, i need to ask a few (simple) questions that have probably already been answered in the thread, but i don't have the time to read it back. does installing windows 8 format my hard drives? can i "upgrade" and keep all my files? how compatible are common programs? (like skype and steam) could i "revert" to windows 7 and keep my files? does it support dual monitors by default, or will i need extra programs? Thanks guys
What are the program paths and arguments for Computer and Control Panel?
My mom got a surface! The thing is incredible! Touch cover actually works! I can see it taking over the use of her PC. Using hers is all the confirmation I needed before getting one myself. I just need to sort out the money...

You think Android is configurable? Not as much as any Windows tab, trust me.
well, we could go into the fact that you can change android's source code, but since nobody actually does that, let's just say windows is better at customization
well, we could go into the fact that you can change android's source code, but since nobody actually does that, let's just say windows is better at customization
Open source and configurability aren't really synonymous IMO I mean, Android doesn't come out of the box with a slew of administrative features like Windows does. Last I checked there was no scheduling, or detailed task manager, a full blown recovery partition. Windows RT really does bridge the gap between tablets and PCs.
My laptop is due for renewal soon, the left hinge cover tore off a few weeks back and now the side of the screen bezel is peeling away. Hey, it lasted 3 years of college in-bag abuse plus a year of gigging. I can't complain. I think I'll hold off and see how the Windows 8 Pro running Surface works out.

RT is much better than what I expected. Though I do hope that we'll manage to run unsigned desktop apps.
Does anyone know a good windows 8 tablet looking at like a max of 700, I keep looking around the samsung one looked interesting untill I read RT. Also whats windows 8 like on PC's now I have the really old dev preview on my VM i had a few issues with it
Also whats windows 8 like on PC's now I have the really old dev preview on my VM i had a few issues with it
It's awesome.
Yeah. RT is much better than what I expected. Though I do hope that we'll manage to run unsigned desktop apps.
I'm not banking on it, but I do expect there to be a fair amount of desktop apps sometime. A lot of Microsoft stuff like Visual Studio maybe. But someone is definitely going to hack it.
Yeah. RT is much better than what I expected. Though I do hope that we'll manage to run unsigned desktop apps.
I really, really dislike Windows 8, but I really like Windows RT. I'm comparing Windows RT to Android and iOS where it wins, but comparing Metro to Windows 7 makes it look really bad.
Hmm, I'm the opposite. I hate RT but I love 8. Android will always be my mobile OS.
I absolutely can't stand Android - I own 2 other tablets, one that runs android natively and another that does not (Xoom and touchpad respectively.) I wanted to like Android, I really did, but the tablets didn't provide the productivity tools I needed, the gaming experience I wanted, or the convenience of synchronization. Seeing as I have a laptop and a desktop that both run Windows 8, and my iPhone uploads to iCloud automatically followed by my desktop downloading from iCloud, I have my photos where I want them when I want them, my notes are all synchronized across tablet, laptop and desktop, and Windows RT on the tablet provides a great balance between productivity and play. The ecosystem in the Windows Store is... a lot better than I anticipated, there's already some 1000 games and counting. Of course, Angry Birds is 5 fucking dollars, but there's no shortage of decent free and cheap games. Heavy hitters like Netflix and Hulu Plus are already on there. The web browser and flash implementation is so fucking good. I'm especially happy considering Asus' flaky quality control on their tabs that the worst I have is the bezel isn't completely flush with the aluminum back, something that if I ever really wanted to, is easily fixed with a dab of superglue.
Android and Windows <3.
Windows 8 looks nice, is it worth upgrading from windows 7? Also, If I was to get a tablet, would I need to pay for its own internet if I have wifi/can use wifi from college's internet?
Windows 8 looks nice, is it worth upgrading from windows 7?
If you like the faster boot time and the new start screen, then yes.
Also, If I was to get a tablet, would I need to pay for its own internet if I have wifi/can use wifi from college's internet?
You don't need to pay extra for WiFi access.
Is anyone else having issues with Windows Defender pretty much eating the hard drive usage up?
You don't need to pay extra for WiFi access.
I'm sure he's talking about a service/data plan for tablets, like how iPhones are. [editline]2nd November 2012[/editline]
Is anyone else having issues with Windows Defender pretty much eating the hard drive usage up?
Idk about hard drive usage, but it uses a good amount of memory. Use autruns (startup manager) to turn it off.
Is anyone else having issues with Windows Defender pretty much eating the hard drive usage up?
How can you find out?
How can you find out?
The circled reading would be very high: I used to have this problem, but it turned out my motherboard's SATA channels were dying.
Ah cheers I'll have to look tommrow as far as I'm aware mine uses about 15% ram and thats it but I'll let you know
Posting from my vivo. Internet explorer aint so bad.
Posting from my vivo. Internet explorer aint so bad.
it isn't bad at all... Like, actually really fucking good man. [editline]3rd November 2012[/editline] now we need our useragent icons garry!
So I just upgraded to windows 8 and now my keyboard (Saitek Eclipse 3) will not work. I checked it out in device manager and when I tried to upgrade the drivers I was greeted with this: Then I tried downloading the drivers off of Saitek's site and the driver installation wouldn't detect my keyboard. I've just spent the last 2.5 hours trying everything on the sun to get it working and no luck. I really don't want to have to use the on-screen keyboard for everything as I'm having to do now.
