WTF!
I can't suddenly log in to my accounts, it's like the user or win8 files would be corrupted, whenever I try to log in, it says: "windows 8 the user profile service failed the sign-in"
Since the win8 replaced my boot bios too, I can't do anything anymore.
Anyone else had the same problem?
You can boot into advanced startup, use the command tool with google to repair, delete, create a new user profile to be able to login.
Ah, I'd play with Surface before you do, just to make sure you're going to like it as much and all. Asus's repair (in my previous experiences) has been pretty good as getting shit right, so they might be able to take care of it without creating another problem.
Well I get I think 15 days from date of purchase to return the device to Micro Center, no questions asked, so if it gets worse I'll just pop by sometime in the next two weeks and get it exchanged
Also, my Vivo Tab is getting progressively more... noisy. In the way that Asus tablets use terrible adhesives. Pressing on certain parts of the screen results in a lovely click/pop noise.

I should mention nothing is actually coming apart on it, it's just noisy. Kinda contemplating returning it in lieu of a Surface.
imo you're extremely picky with gadgets. Weren't you the guy that had his HTC windows phone replaced three times for different defects?
So, is there anyway that I can log into a different xbox live account from my currently logged in account? It's annoying not being able to use my preferred live account.

different defects like the camera not working, the microphone not working and the screen having an obnoxious amount of dust under it? yeah, that was me. I guess I'm just too picky for expecting devices to work out of the box

additionally I shouldn't have to deal with build quality issues on a $600 tablet

A few of these I didn't know about... like being able to turn off logging in at startup or having your computer go straight to desktop.
I tried windows 8 for the first time today for like 10 minutes.
I did find it really nice. It only took me like 2 minutes to understand how metro worked and I did find it nice to use.
But it was only like a fresh install of windows so there was not so much to look around at but I did som exploring and like I said, I liked it.
Will get it for my next build in like 2-3 month if I'm lucky to have money by then.
it's $15 how cheap are you
Wow, Start8 is very, very well done. If you didn't know any better you would easily think that was the standard menu in Windows 8.
We may have to use this if and when we roll out windows 8 so the move from XP isn't so jarring.
meh
i used classic shell for a while and uninstalled it
i overestimated how much i used the start menu and the new metro ui works fine
I wish you could have live tiles and good looking tiles for non-metro apps, natively
would be the best of both worlds

I wish you could natively pick an icon for Metro. It seems like a huge oversight.
I suspect a lot of new programs will start including metro icons. It's shame Microsoft don't have an official app on the Market place which has an online library of icons.

if they did it would probably cost like $25
microsoft store shit is way too overpriced
Games have some good icons though:

Also I figured out how to take screenshots on an RT tablet. Hardware windows key + volume down.

That's one of the things I was hoping for was the ability for non-metro apps to plug into some live tile API and provide info on the start screen. Would've been neat.

If I had to pick between Asus or MS I'd go with MS any day. Especially if we consider how much time and effort MS put behind that tablet and that one of its main selling points is its beauty and care for details. Surface is as of now the most superior RT tablet in the market.
Anyone got a full win 8 table ( not RT ) im looking around and can't find many, most claimed they would be out on release but they arn't
it's $15 how cheap are you
No job = no money.
But I have a job now but it will take a while to get the money. Have other things around my life than my computer that cost money. And I will not get windows 8 till I get the money to get my self a new build.

yeah that's why I wanted the Surface initially
I liked the transformer style of the Vivo Tab more than the Surface though especially since with the transformer dock I get 2 hard USB ports
my windows 8 refuses to let me change me background wallpaper
i'm able to change my lock screen and start screen, but the desktop will not change, not even an error message, it just stays as some smug flowers
help please?

Didn't Windows 8 block personalization options if your trial is over or something?
Didn't Windows 8 block personalization options if your trial is over or something?
i'm able to personalise everything but the background
Didn't Windows 8 block personalization options if your trial is over or something?
just for metro I believe
I thought you could?
Nope, Metro apps only. You could if you could be bothered create a link between a desktop app and a metro app, but since metro apps are sandboxed you might have to do it via a localhost connection to send/retrieve information.
I got a chance to visit a full Microsoft store today (Orlando, FL)...I was somewhat disappointed. They didn't have ANYTHING other than the Surface and the Vivotab RT for tablets. That was it. No Sony tablet, no Samsung, nothing. I don't get why Microsoft is trying to push RT so much when they have a great full-featured OS they could be pressing as well. I've gone all over the middle of the state an I have found ONE, that's right, ONE tablet that runs Windows 8 Pro. And it had an Atom processor. Fuck that. I might as well get a RT tablet because it'd probably be able to do more.
On a different note, I was very impressed with the Surface. The touch cover is one-of-a-kind. I thought it would be too sensitive but it's perfect. You can lay your hands down on the home row like a normal keyboard and it won't pick it up until you start typing. Granted, I like the type cover much better, but that's just because i'm used to it. The device itself is gorgeous and truly has a great finish on it. And that click when you pop the keyboard in....unff.
I almost want to wait for the pro version, but the Samsung Ativ PC Pro is so tempting...

What do you want a tablet to have? A fucking Xeon Phi?

Margin of profit is greater with the RT. People like me are dumb enough to buy it at that price. But since no tablet had really filled the void I wanted until now I have no qualms with buying it.

I was something with at least an i3, I mean, that's not much to ask for of a laptop, why should it be for a tablet?
