Nope. If you want 8 Pro, you should wait for Surface Pro.
Can you make it so you can have more than 2 icons on each row? Is it even possible to rearrange the icons how YOU want?
Is it possible?
Keep piling tiles into a column and it'll expand.
So my dad's girlfriend's daughter got a laptop for her 15th birthday and it came with Windows 8. She hadn't used Windows 8 or owned a laptop before, so I helped her get around while I uninstalled the usual acer junk and included applications. Interestingly, she liked it. After showing her the hot corners and stuff, she seemed to get around fairly easily. It was a bit of a shock for me since I hadn't used the release/RTM version of Windows 8 on a laptop without an SSD. You have to wait minutes for stuff to uninstall at times? What the hell!
Is it possible?
I think there's a registry key, but I don't know off hand (I'm on mobile and Google takes data)
About to use my promo $15 key that i have in my gmail for some time, can't wait to use windows 8 final
I feel like a tile that shows your CPU usage live or some other diagnostic data would be pretty slick, especially if it wasn't that god awful gadget skin they used in vista and 7.
You can't see the tiles all the time and to access such a feature you would have to do more work than with the task manager. The gadgets were disabled for security reasons and the tiles are almost the same thing anyways.
There is still no way to create custom tiles for folders? :(
Yay the $15 worked, cannot wait
So, After about 12 days running RTM and normally shutting down each day, the USB port containing my mouse decided to stop working. Disabling and Enabling the device fixes it for another few days, is there anything that can be done to stop this from happening in the first place?
I was watching a few reviews of RT and I really am now in the "what do i do" if I want to chose a tablet
Wait a minute, do I see transparency in those window borders or is it an illusion?
The screenshot is from the release preview, the problem persists in RTM. The thing is it never happened on windows 7.

The only USB drivers that are on the Asus site are for USB 3.0 which this laptop doesn't even have.
There is still no way to create custom tiles for folders? :(
Yes there is. Program path to explorer.exe and the folder path in arguments iirc.
Is Windows Defender any good? Should I use it after the pre-installed Norton Internet Security's license runs out or look for another antivirus software?
[t]http://puu.sh/1oYbq[/t] I wish they bring back that big seek bar soon :c [sub][sub]yes i actually use the music app[/sub][/sub]
Is Windows Defender any good? Should I use it after the pre-installed Norton Internet Security's license runs out or look for another antivirus software?
Windows Defender is exactly like Microsoft Security Essentials on Windows 8.
For some reason, some of the built in apps (photos, skydrive etc.) decided it'd be a good idea to not work, fixed everything apart from camera and weather, but found this weather app built for Australians so whats the point in using the standard one
I seriously think Microsoft made a really smart decision... -Sniperoo- I feel like I should have made a mass debate thread, but oh well.
I think it was just over a year ago but I made a post in this section saying how the "desktop computer" is changing to be more integrated with our other devices and everyone completely disagreed. I think we are seeing this change in progress now. The mass market (You know those people who hashtag everything on FACEBOOK!) wants all their devices to just work together without any messing around. They want a unified UI that works for both productivity and general browsing activities. The enthusiasts with dual slot graphics cards will hate this change but it WILL happen whether it be in the next 3 years or the next 10. The desktop computer as it is now will be reserved for those of us who need a computer for, in my case: Video editing, Mixing/Recording audio and Programming. On the subject of programming. Across the windows 8 desktop and tablet platforms (Both ARM and x86/x86-64), Microsoft have already snuck a technology in to help us out with that... the .NET framework, essentially abstracting the platform underneath. Cross platform coding without forcing programmers to learn anything new. Spot on. I'm really not sure what the future holds for PC gaming, I fear the outlook is bleak.
Yes there is. Program path to explorer.exe and the folder path in arguments iirc.
That's the "c:/explorer.exe -path/path/path" thing? Either ways, can you show me an example?
Windows Defender is exactly like Microsoft Security Essentials on Windows 8.
Does it mean that it's good? I know almost noting about MSE.
Does it mean that it's good? I know almost noting about MSE.
MSE is considered to be the best anti-virus software you can get. You don't need anything else.
MSE is considered to be the best anti-virus software you can get. You don't need anything else.
There was some list of how much stuff each AV could detect and MSE had the least of all.
MSE is considered to be the best anti-virus software you can get. You don't need anything else.
Statistically it isn't.
oh shit oh shit COMODO firewall finally supports win8 without bluescreens on boot. I am so fucking happy right now. [editline]11th November 2012[/editline] Looks like a new version of oblytile is out. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1899865 [editline]11th November 2012[/editline] Shit it can even manage and edit existing tiles now.
I use avast on windows 8.
MSE isn't the best, though it catches most things and it's included with the OS. So it's not too bad, though if I was cleaning off someone's PC, I wouldn't be using MSE/Windows Defender.
ok for the past few days i haven't been able to open links from stuff like Teasmspeak or even from game launchers (like War Z or Planetside 2) whenever i try to click on a link on my desktop nothing happens chrome is set as my default browser, but i don't think it's on chrome's end because nothing at all happens when i try to click links, i don't get a cursor change, i can't click it at all any ideas?
