what the hell does "metro" even mean
that's not even a term that's ever used by microsoft anymore
give the start screen a try
but the built-in "windows 8" apps are horrible
some custom ones from the store are alright
few questions ;
can we set custom backgrounds for start menu?
custom start menu icons?
is the Upgrade and Keep Files thing still there?

1. Could be done with third party tools.
2. Yes, with OblyTile
3. I think so.
Apparently Windows 8 has photodna

For those of you who are as of yet unaware, Stardock (Yes, I know you hate them. Keep reading.) offers a tool called Decor8, which can replace Start Screen backgrounds with any image you like.
Say what you will about the company, they're great at providing neat software for fairly reasonable prices. Link's below, it's $5 with a month's free trial.

Meh, I don't hate them. I'd rather just pay $0 extra for stock Windows 8.
[QUOTE=reevezy67;38431682]So I had to buy a new wireless adapter(USB one) because my old one wasn't working in Windows 8.
It keeps disabling itself and I can't re-enable it without a reboot. Anyone had this issue, I've double checked the power management/advanced device settings it's not any of those.
Not sure if its Windows 8/drivers or the adapter is faulty.[/QUOTE]
My USB adapter was constantly cutting out, then connecting again. Going for a Devolo DLan fixed it, so I don't know whether it was drivers or the device.

I'd much rather wait for the free alternative that's inevitably coming out.
stardock literally just tries to cash in on ANYTHING they can
To those of you who said Samsung has horrible build quality, you're right. The pen digitizer only works on half the screen. Back to the Microsoft store I go...
admittedly start8 seems to be the best start menu bringbacker
(boohooh i don't like metro start screen)

I prefer StartIsBack.
Seriously couldn't stand using Windows 8 till I got Start8.

They're a company, they want to earn money.

Yeah they ditched the term metro, don't know what they call them now. But they will forever be called metro apps to me.

I've tried 3 different adapters now, maybe I'm just unlucky.
am i the only one that can't buy windows 8? i downloaded the upgrade assistant and put in all my info and triple checked it but its says it couldn't process my order. is it because so many people are ordering windows 8 or what?
Microsoft gave me a free copy of 8 for doing there trainings,I really want to install it now but I think my method is going to be just do my build in a couple months so software wise everything settles. No matter how much i fiddle with metro i can't stand it.
Okay, replacement tablet is working great. The original one BSOD'd when I restarted it before taking it back, so I had a feeling it was fucked up on the inside.
Here's the unboxing:

You can't stand a start menu? Then don't use it.
I got Windows 8 Pro but my computer is like 8 years old.
Intel Core 2 Duo E6600 @ 2.40GHz
2.00 GB Dual-Channel DDR2
512MB GeForce 8800 GT
Is my computer too old to run it? If so then I will keep Win8 until I can afford a new PC.

I'd say it'd be okay, but you should find a copy of the Release Preview and try it to make sure. It doesn't expire until January so it should be plenty of time to gauge how well it'll run on your computer.
Wait a minute, I need a Microsoft account to get Skype from the store?
What bullshit is this?
[editline]14th November 2012[/editline]
Can I download these metro apps elsewhere?
[editline]14th November 2012[/editline]
Doesn't look like it. Fuck you Microsoft.

I can't see any reason you should have to sign up for an account to download free software.

I can, if it's from their store and the fact that you use that account for more than just the store. It's nice to be able to create your profile using your hotmail account and everything is synced and ready to go.
Just personal preference, they have every right to ask me to sign up before using their service.

I have to merge my Skype and Microsoft accounts to use metro Skype? :(
I have apps on my phone, tablet and worktop that I would have to reconfigure.

Yes due to the fact that MS have decided to kill Windows Live Messenger and focus completely on Skype.
Well, I can't argue with that.
