I got Windows 8 Pro but my computer is like 8 years old.

2.00 GB Dual-Channel DDR2
512MB GeForce 8800 GT
Is my computer too old to run it? If so then I will keep Win8 until I can afford a new PC.
I have a computer from the same-ish era (E8400 & 8800GT) and it runs W8 just fine. The only difference is that it has 4GB of RAM as opposed to your 2, and with just chrome and some other misc stuff open task manager says I'm at about 800MB used. I'd get some more RAM just to be safe, especially if you're playing games.

Firstly, that CPU and card are only 6 years old and both are still fully supported by their manufacturers, and secondly, it'll run great. Win8 is better optimized than 7, which is better optimized than Vista (It took Vista for MS to realize people like fast computers, apparently.)
I take back what I said, metro apps are actually pretty handy when you get used to them, problem is half of them don't work properly or have a ton of features removed from originals.
Such as Skype.
Just personal preference, they have every right to ask me to sign up before using their service.

I have to merge my Skype and Microsoft accounts to use metro Skype? :(
I have apps on my phone, tablet and worktop that I would have to reconfigure.
i did that and i still can login with my normal username and password

I run Windows 8 Pro on a laptop with similar specs, though I have integrated graphics, double the RAM and an SSD. It works great.

I put Windows 8 on my brother's PC with similar specs and it runs fine.
Core 2 Duo @2.0Ghz (It's above 2 and below 2.5, I can't really remember)
2 GB DDR2
1GB GeForce 9800 GT
apparently microsoft charged me for the 3 times i tried to order Windows 8 but it said it couldn't process my info. going through the upgrade manager again and there's no option to log in anywhere and claim my already purchased copies of windows 8, just to buy another. no emails from microsoft so i'm not sure if i should be contacting them or my bank to get my $45 back. they wonder why there's so much piracy when they can't even handle a simple credit card purchase.

nope, you're gonna need a 32 core Xeon and an overclocked GTX 690 just to run the start screen at 10 FPS

It barely meets requirements for Windows 98, so I would suggest installing 95.
In other words, Dizzle, yes. If you can run Vista, or Seven, or even XP, then chances are you can run 8.
So stop being an idiot.
Stop lying to him. Obviously he needs to upgrade everything and catch up with the times!

He doesn't just need to catch up with the times, he needs to beat the times! Windows 8 only works on hardware that will be released two years from now. Better get working on that time machine.
Get a new DVD-ROM and you can install it just fine.
[sup]put installer on usb-stick[/sup]
Windows 8 requirements
32 core processor
16gb RAM
1TB hard drive space for storing Windows 8, as well as a bunch of left over Windows 95 icons
GeForce GTX 690 or similar to run start menu at 60fps with animations
apparently you can't buy windows 8 with a debit card?? whoever ms contracted to handle billing for their OS launch is fucking inept

Well yeah, it's a German company so they can't process debit cards. But I think you can use either Paypal, or a prepaid Visa or Mastercard gift card.
Yeah, I've just bought 2 copies with my Maestro debit card through paypal.
lol who uses metro appsseriously
I use metro chrome when I feel like doing nothing else but surfing the internet
I had issues opening popups in metro chrome. Kind of annoying having to switch it to windowed chrome.
I don't think metro Chrome should have been released as it is, it's not worth it. Firefox's is slightly better but it's real early in the development.
So now that Windows has a touch-optimized OS, is it worth buying a touchscreen laptop, or would a non-touchscreen still be just as usable?
(I haven't gotten a chance to try it out yet)
If you think you'll use touch, get a touch laptop. If not, Windows 8 works just the same
I didn't realize this but Civilization V is optimized for Windows 8 now. Plus I'm going on a school trip which will take 18 hours both ways....combine the two?
Surface tab pro here I come!
So I spent all this time downloading cod4, only to work out punkbuster doesn't work on 8 yet.. goddamned.

Some games work fine and others don't, it's weird. Battlefield 2 and 2142 kick me out after a minute or two of playing but Battlefield 3 never does.
