I really hope Microsoft releases an API for dev's to allow to create live tiles/ big 1x2 tiles for desktop programs. But this is Microsoft we're talking about.
It's possible to make an app that would do that tbh. It could even open games through the steam:// protocol.
It's possible to make an app that would do that tbh. It could even open games through the steam:// protocol.
Yes that would be possible. You could get the info via Opensteamworks, and then provide those info's in a live tile. the only problem would be, if you want a live tile for each game. I don't think Microsoft allows an app to create multiple icons.
I don't think Microsoft allows an app to create multiple icons.
Maybe not officially.
I'm really curious on how google managed to install their metro browser, bypassing the Microsoft store.
I don't think Microsoft allows an app to create multiple icons.
Nope, they do allow it.
Nope, they do allow it.
Really? Didn't expect that. especially with Microsoft's guidelines.
I'm surprised how much progress Microsoft has made with Internet Explorer. I don't have any real complaints with IE10 for everyday usage. Having said that, the last version I tried was IE7. It's like going from a kid's bike with busted training wheels and wonky tyres to a Ford Focus.
-snip, I was wrong-
1.4 Each app must display only one tile after it is installed The image on an app’s tile must be reasonably related to the content of the app. http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/windows/apps/hh694083.aspx So no you can't have an app that displays multiple tiles. You could however make a "steam" app in which you have all your games listed and display your stats in them and launch the game. This is fairly easy to make as well.
So It's possible, but it wouldn't be accepted into the Windows store. Lets hope someone finds a Way to install metro apps without the use of the Windows Store.
So It's possible, but it wouldn't be accepted into the Windows store. But I doubt people feel like buying/installing visual studio just to "install" some metro apps.
No, you can have multiple tiles. And it will be accepted in the Windows Store. Just check the weather app, it does that. Any app can do that: http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/windows/apps/xaml/hh465372.aspx
damn now I have to start making "new Interface" apps.
I wish there was a winrt version that isn't so sandboxed. Some things you are used to and expect to have on a windows machine no longer work. Incoming teamviewer for example. I was so disappointing when I saw it was outgoing only. Oh and http://www.tile8.com/ is usable right now. There are still few things that need improving/fixing but it shouldn't be that much of an annoyance. I have been extremely busy last few weeks.
What's with the shadow and reflection on the icons?
That's how the user who uploaded them created them. Currently lacking some content so it would be awesome if you could upload the tiles you have.
Highly unlikely. Currently live tiles, are restricted to metro applications, which are restricted to the app store. And I don't think Microsoft would make an exception.
Well now that Sinofsky's gone, who knows.
Why use more than you need?
I'm sorry what?
Windows 7 under 512MB idle. Fuck Windows 8, for a few years at least.
Windows 8 is more optimized than Win7, both in CPU and RAM, so that it runs better on weaker machines like cheap tablets and such. It is taking up a fuckload of memory right behind the League of Legends client (how does it take up half a gig of RAM? it's just a launcher)
It is taking up a fuckload of memory right behind the League of Legends client (how does it take up half a gig of RAM? it's just a launcher)
I had a problem with Medieval II TW where the launcher would take up precisely 25% of my CPU... and it didn't close itself when the game itself launched. At one point I was thinking "Why the fuck is my computer going so slow" and I pulled out the task manager. Three instances of the launcher running right there. That's bullshit.
The X button on the LoL client never actually closes it :v: I have to task manage it or start another client that will nuke the other process
The X button on the LoL client never actually closes it :v: I have to task manage it or start another client that will nuke the other process
Doesn't it say "Are you sure you want to log out" yadi yadi? Also, The League of Legends client is horrible. Especially on Windows 8. It seems to crash once in a while (especially in a short period after you started it, or joining games)

Adobe AIR also fails to tell you about updates. You should check with the filehippo update checker to see if there's an update to Adobe AIR (or any software it finds on your computer for that matter)
