Waited 16 days to hear back from Asus for the free keyboard dock for my Vivo Tab. Just got a mail from Micro Center saying I have to go there and get it from them. :I [editline]19th November 2012[/editline] Bam!
Oblytile stopped working for me, the shortcuts are still there but it doesn't show the images anymore. All it shows is this: Anyone else experiencing this?

New oblytile version is great by the way. The tile manager is extremely useful.
Opening Oblytile again fixes it for me.
Tried rebuiling cache, removing all made tiles and making new ones. Doesn't seem to work for me. Edit: Got it working again after setting Internet Explorer to default, then Opera back to default.
If you upgrade from Windows 7 and have Avast installed, make sure you update it - the older versions stop Metro apps from launching altogether.
Windows 8 is more optimized than Win7, both in CPU and RAM, so that it runs better on weaker machines like cheap tablets and such. The win 8 interface is worse and has less stuff than win 7 ultimate. Ofc its gonna take less. v there's no start menu in win 8 idiot and no using third party applications doesn't count. Stop trying to say win 8 is better when its not. (User was banned for this post ("Flaming" - Craptasket))
Well duh isn't it obvious? The win 8 interface is worse and has less stuff than win 7 ultimate. Ofc its gonna take less.
Worse interface you mean the new amazing start screen? Less stuff you mean they got rid of bloated aero and widgets?

It's almost like your post reeks of opinion instead of actual fact.
I'm surprised how much progress Microsoft has made with Internet Explorer. I don't have any real complaints with IE10 for everyday usage. Having said that, the last version I tried was IE7. It's like going from a kid's bike with busted training wheels and wonky tyres to a Ford Focus.
I've actually been using it daily for a few weeks and it's really fast on my machine. It outperforms both Chrome and Firefox in speed and page load times doing ordinary browsing/tasks. One big difference I noticed was in animated gifs. They were always really choppy on the first play on Chrome/Firefox. On IE10 is plays smoothly right away. The only thing that sucks about it is the lack of plugins/themes/customization.
Just noticed that you can right click to close applications. Quite a bit faster than the dragging.
Just noticed that you can right click to close applications. Quite a bit faster than the dragging.
Explain?
Explain?
vs. dragging the preview down to the bottom of the screen to close apps
Just noticed that you can right click to close applications. Quite a bit faster than the dragging.
Wait, there's another way to do it? I started right-clicking on things after getting frustrated with trying to drag them off. :v:

Dear god those tiles are ugly as fuck.
How many installs (ie, different computers) does a standard (£24.99) license allow?
So I've been sitting down and trying to use the Vivo Tab to just like browse the web and stuff and I really like it. The keyboard is solid, if not a little hard to adjust to. Screen size is meh, but since it shares its resolution with pretty much half the laptops out there, it's not terrible. I like it over the Surface based on the keyboard dock alone though.
Here's what the start screen would look like if they let you use your own background, which I think is pretty nice. Stardock has a program that lets you do that, but of course it's $5 because they're a bunch of cheap assholes.
Where can I find the plain start screen backgrounds? I'd like to use them as my xbox's theme...

Yeah some of the default backgrounds are wayyyy too much.
Stardock has a program that lets you do that, but of course it's $5 because they're a bunch of cheap assholes.
Honestly I don't see the Problem with it. They programmed it, so they can charge whatever they want.
Anyone know how to change the way Windows handles start screen scaling? On my desktop 1920x1080 monitor I get 6 rows of icons, while on my 15.6" 1920x1080 laptop, I only get 5. The DPI setting is set to normal on both.
Honestly I don't see the Problem with it. They programmed it, so they can charge whatever they want.
If people buy it, and they're satisfied with their profits, then there's no reason to decrease the price. It's like how Apple charges loads for their products, but people still buy them so they don't decrease the prices
How many installs (ie, different computers) does a standard (£24.99) license allow?
I think it said at the windowsupgrade website that you can only use it on one machine. If you install it on another it automatically disables it on the old one and activates it in the new one. Though I read somewhere that you can run virtual machines with the same key without any problems so that's kind of weird.
Wait, there's another way to do it? I started right-clicking on things after getting frustrated with trying to drag them off. :v:
You can also use your middle-mouse button to close them directly, instead of using right-click then close. This method of closing works with almost everything in Windows.
Here's what the start screen would look like if they let you use your own background, which I think is pretty nice.
Highly unlikely. Currently live tiles, are restricted to metro applications, which are restricted to the app store. And I don't think Microsoft would make an exception.
ACtually - webpages can also place live tiles if you pin them. Considering steam shortcuts are weblinks already....
Hmm, I have a problem. The volume box thing won't go away :v: I've tried restarting and restarting explorer.exe.
