what have you guys been using for tiles? I really want an all white icon pack with recolorable backs. the big pack everyone loves doesn't work for me that well, icons end up going over text, and backs don't recolor properly.
So my Windows 8 backup DVD should have been here by the 12th. Yesterday the 21st I got this.

Surprisingly the DVD wasn't shattered, It was however slightly bent.

oh god.
Anyone know a program or something that changes your taskbar to be one color only?
[editline]22nd November 2012[/editline]
instead of one background color and one top dark line.

This doesn't look good at all! what's a good icon pack?
That would look better without the text.
I don't want to turn off the text. I want small white icons like the defaults. I want to be able to recolor the tile. Isn't there something like that?

if you want to recolor them, you have to edit those icons with an editor, and make the colored parts transparent, and then you can change the color in oblytile.
or you could use

How does this even happen? Did they drag it behind the truck?
If I download this, will it completely replace my current OS and will I lose compatibility with everything?

yes
[quote] and will I lose compatibility with everything?[/QUOTE]
no
[QUOTE=mblunk;38551017]
no[/QUOTE]
so, will everything be compatible still? or will there be a few problems...
[editline]22nd November 2012[/editline]
well I just used the compatibility assistant or whatever, and Daemon Tools won't be compatible, so fuck this.

Daemon tools is completely unnecessary, because virtual discs are supported by default.

[editline]22nd November 2012[/editline]
Goddamnit
oh, well, i'm still kind of skeptical....I currently have some third-party drivers installed, so until those are compatible, I think I'll stick with 7

I am currently using the windows 7 drivers on windows8, and I have yet to see a problem with them.
[editline]22nd November 2012[/editline]
The only priblem I had was with comodo firewall, wich has now been fixed.
Run them in windows 7 compatible mode?
well, it was quite a hassle to get them to work on windows 7. I have to put my computer in Test Mode when I want to use those drivers

Does windows 8 allow third-party drivers?

Uhhh why not?
Yes it does, in the same way Windows 7 does IIRC. I know because I've had to use them before. Getting to the pre-boot F8 screen is a lot harder now (the window is a lot shorter) but you can boot straight to it from within Windows itself now.
So what's the difference between the pro and regular version? Is it worth the price difference?

i didn't even know a regular version of 8 existed.
Real men install drivers from device manager. To avoid the installation of additional bloatware and crapware that comes with them on occasion.
If you can get the regular version cheaper, just get it.
The pro version offers nothing that you can't get for free from a third party application
I'm looking for either a tablet or laptop for college. Are there any win8 tablets worth getting for school?

Full blown windows 8? Not really. I'd just recommend one of them fancy new touchscreen laptops or some such. The only Windows RT tablets that are worthwhile right now are the Asus Vivo Tab RT, and the Microsoft Surface, and Windows RT doesn't support desktop apps, which you probably need, and the Samsung Ativ PC is as shitty as its name is. Either you just get a standard laptop or you should wait a bit until the market matures a bit if you want an actual tablet/convertible worth its mettle.

I'd rather avoid RT. Are there any laptops worth looking at? I'd rather something with a pen touchscreen that can do handwriting recognition.

Can you downgrade from Windows 7 Ultimate to Windows 8 Regular?
