Bought a whole new computer today that has Windows 8 on it. It's pretty neat. Better than I had thought it'd be. It'll definitely take some getting used to though. So far, I have no complaints about it. Minus the fact that the Taskbar is no longer 100% transparent... Anyway to change that?
You want your taskbar to be invisible?
I think he worded that wrong, I think he wants it to be transparent again like in Vista/7

The taskbar is transparent?
The taskbar is transparent?
I was going to point out it isn't, but then I dragged a window under the taskbar. I guess it is transparent, its just fairly opaque, and not adjustable (maybe there's a registry setting?).
It's a long shot, but does anyone have a spare promo key lying around anywhere? Apparently Microshaft are being tight on the whole multiple computer licensing (for personal computers).
Call 'em up, explain, ask for more activations. Bam.
so as of right now, is windows 8 better than 7? is it worth the upgrade? I have a lot of things installed on my computer, and i really don't want to lose them.

I'd say, look up the new features, and the stuff that's removed and see if they suit you.
The start-up time has has improved quite a bit, but since you don't do that much, it's not a main selling point.
At least you don't have to worry about the price, it's not that expensive right now.

No, it's not worth it right now, at least for regular desktop computing.
No, it's not worth it right now, at least for regular desktop computing.
depends on how you mean. I find it to be faster when it comes to launching applications, file operations, checking my mail and more
I use shareX pointed to my Google account, images get uploaded to a private google+ album. You have infinite (photo and video) storage in google+, and images can be up to 2048px in any direction, up to 3-5MB. GIFs work too. The integration with the right-click -> sent to option is the icing on the cake, just right click a file and send to shareX and paste 5 seconds later.
Are you able to link to it?
Are you able to link to it?
Link to what, the album? Yeah, I just opened my album (ShareX creates one called "Drop Box" to send your captures to) and at the top of the album, It'll say Visible to: Only you and you can click "only you" and share it with circles or generate a public link to view the album.
Another great thing about uploading to Google is that the size of the image to be displayed is included in the url, like so:
https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-iGWB9Ocd33Y/UHCWJk3fmHI/AAAAAAAADyQ/us0_uED080s/s0/youarehere.jpg
Where "s0" means use the original size that was uploaded, "s1000" would mean the greatest dimension will be 1000px, etc. You can also use h500 to scale the image such that its height will be set to 500px (aspect ratio will be preserved), w500 so that it's 500px wide, etc. No software resizing, resaving, or reuploading needed to display the image at whatever size you need wherever you need it. I honestly can't think of a better solution.

Sorry but you're so wrong.
Sorry but you're so wrong.
Oh yeah? This is what I believe personally, I don't think that's wrong in any way.
So, while tech blogs have reported that Windows 8 sales seems to be quite limited, it turns out it's not the case. Not at all, actually: http://www.engadget.com/2012/11/27/windows-8-40-million-copies-sold/
40 million in 1 month? That's pretty darn good, even compared to Windows 7 it would seem favourable.
Okay, I may have jumped the gun when it comes to reliability, but a lot of sites are reporting this. Wait for clear numbers before throwing away the salt.

then word it like that then. Don't say "NO it's not". Say "I don't think so/Personally/In my opinion ...", then you won't get so much flack
This isn't specific to Windows 8, but I just learned something I can't believe I never knew.
If you hold shift and then right-click a folder (or right-click within it), you get an option to "open command prompt at this path".
All the copy pasting I've done.....
NO WAY. Haha wow, I thank you so much.
So my dad got a new laptop with Windows 8 on it and he loves it. I didn't even teach him how to do most stuff, he's just been picking it up by himself and he really likes the whole experience and appearance.
I have the release preview right now and would like to go to the full version. However, I don't want to go through the whole new os for the second time in 2 months. Is there any, relatively, easy way to do a backup that I can put back and have it basically the same as it is now?
Something WinRT My way comes!

If you don't mind the huge expenditure, so worth it.
Written with my Vivo Tab by the way
Surface! The screen seems a little dissapointing resolution-wise but the rest seems appealing, especially the four years of support and free Office. I actually quite like Metro and using RDP to get into my desktop'll be nice, too.
It'll be like my Tx2 when i was using it to Beta Test 8, but the OS won't be held back by a dissapointing trainwreck of a computer!
RDP performance is terrible

Fuck, you can get the discount if you had the preview installed. I had it installed but deleted the partition off my drive in my infinite wisdom. Now I can't get the discount.

use the desktop client, it supports gestures properly
though i have no idea what's up with the speed

Do you have trouble identifying people's viewpoints?
That's not my fault, and I shouldn't have to put a disclaimer on my posts because you people are so defensive.
I've used Windows 8 for nearly a month and I don't like it.
well of course not, but this is the internet and it might be hard to differentiate between personal opinions and plain out agendas when it's text
all I did was suggest wording it differently, not writing a 50-word sentence disclaimer or something

I asked you earlier and I don't think you replied, you said Windows 8 had compatibility issues. What drivers or programs did you have issues with?

It was with certain Steam games, e.g. The Walking Dead, GTA IV.
After I upgraded to 8, YouTube video playback in Firefox became severely choppy and sometimes unwatchable. This issue was not replicated on Chrome. I tried disabling my addons, but that didn't solve the problem.
