In other news, a Microsoft showroom opened in "fields" (Scandanavia's largest mall), which is just like 15 minutes walk from me.
They use the same font rendering.
That's what I tought at first, but at a closer look, they looked different. Might Have been the difference PPI. As I've mint on the laptop, and the ubuntu screenshot on my desktop :)
I doubt I'll end up paying for it after the trial, but I think I could get used to this:
Source of wallpaper? Me gusta.
I don't know if anyone else is as excited as I am about this, but I just noticed broadcom's bluetooth driver installer officially supports windows 8 I am literally jumping in my chair
My Windows 8 store ain't working. I can't install or uninstall apps :( Tell me what u need of information and I'll get it. It's really annoying.
I still don't understand why though - you're just launching things from it
My reason for going with start8 wasn't so much that the windows 8 menu is "Inconvenient" more that it doesn't work for me And I think I have figured out why, Here's an example. When I am coding and need to launch a program, I press the windows key and type the program name in. In that short space of time I am subconciously still reading what else is on my screen. Multitasking. With the new full screen menu, pressing the windows key blocks the view of all my lovely IDE windows and suddenly I have giant squares. Even if it up for maybe 1 or 2 seconds this is enough to slow me down a bit. It's very hard to explain but I really can't get on with the new full screen menu. Start8's New-menu-resized-in-the-corner-of-the-screen mode works well for me. I gave it a few weeks it just doesn't work for me.
Anyone who is running Win8 also running with a Creative Soundblaster soundcard and can tell if there still is a driver issue with setting not saving (Creative Console Launcher) upon restart?
How do you set your own background for the start menu?
Right now I'm using Decor8, but it's a 30 day trial. As for the wallpaper (Thumbed because it's huge): [t]http://www.galawallpapers.net/photo/97955/bridge-023.jpg[/t]
5 bucks? Might just get it.
Anybody have a W8 RT tablet? If so, do you recommend it for school/work?
So pin them to right click on Windows Explorer, eliminates the need for the start menu.
Oh wow. That's awesome. You just solved the last gripe I had with Windows 8. I never bothered learning how the jump list worked in Win7 because I never needed it. But yeah, you just drag your folders (Documents, Pictures, whatever) over the pinned Explorer icon and it adds them to the top of the jump list. And then you just right click whenever you need them. Sweet.
Anybody have a W8 RT tablet? If so, do you recommend it for school/work?
I've got the vivo tab and I've already written 2 homework assignments and a 4 page paper on it. As long as you don't need anything more serious than Word/Excel, a W8 RT tablet is great.
So I decided to dust off my old 1st generation Acer Aspire One as a school notebook and I was wondering if I should stay with Win7 or move to Windows 8, because I heard a couple people say that it might be lighter.
anyone else often have trouble with ending processes in the task manager? sometimes i just can't shit to stop, seems completely random
I have the problem that when i shut down my pc skype.exe pops up and spits out some random error and it wont let me shut down until i press ok .
I have the problem that when i shut down my pc skype.exe pops up and spits out some random error and it wont let me shut down until i press ok .
I've had that since I first installed Windows 8. Don't really think much of it.
I'm about to buy 2 128GB SSDs and 2x Windows 8 (for my laptop and desktop). Any thoughts?
Anyone know what link it is when creating a "desktop" tile? C:\Users\NAME\Desktop just opens explorer.
Anyone know what link it is when creating a "desktop" tile? C:\Users\NAME\Desktop just opens explorer.
Doesn't the Desktop "app" persist in the "All Apps" screen and you simply re-pin to Start Menu from there?
Doesn't the Desktop "app" persist in the "All Apps" screen and you simply re-pin to Start Menu from there?
But you can't customize that one :D Anyway I just simply linked it to Shows_Desktop.scf And gave the file the following content:
[Shell] Command=2 IconFile=%SystemRoot%\System32\imageres.dll,105 [Taskbar] Command=ToggleDesktop
[editline]4th December 2012[/editline] I also just noticed you can scroll on the start menu by just moving your cursor to the left or right of your screen. Fucking amazing . Can't believe it took me almost 3+ months to figure that one out. [editline]4th December 2012[/editline]
You can customize it, it's your desktop wallpaper :v: That looks nice though. I just wish you could dim the background image a bit (without photoshop) so that lighter colors don't clash with text and icons.
how is it with music and video?
Not a fan of the inbuilt music player, but assuming a good app will come along, sound quality is about average for a mobile device. Netflix and browser-based YouTube has been otherwise fine.
After the most recent Windows 8 update (after restarting) I've found that everything is slow. Memory usage is extremely low. 2.1GB with everything I ever use open. I'm guessing it's because it's not caching my programs with RAM so they're faster?
I just installed windows 8 and it's pretty confusing
I just installed windows 8 and it's pretty confusing
You'll get the hang of it after awhile.
Anyone else having a bug where the metro transitions (like when you click on an app and the splash screen spins around before it opens) just randomly stop working (so instead of spinning around it just shows up)? I've had it happen on my desktop, tablet, and laptop. It's annoying.
I've had problems that only the background of the start menu showed up sometimes.
