I broke Windows8 3 times already.
I broke Windows8 3 times already.
How?
I broke Windows8 3 times already.
I thought I broke because it wouldn't boot and kept looping automatic repair over and over. I had unplugged my Seagate Barracuda drive because I thought it was failing (it seems okay....for now). Turns out that drive contained my swap file and apparently it confuses the hell out of Windows 8 if it can't find the swap file drive.
I somehow managed to delete the Desktop tile by clearing out my Start Menu folder, which makes no sense since app tiles aren't even stored there. I had to copy some stuff from winsxs or something over to the tiles folder to fix it.
Is windows even dependant on a swap file?
Of course; but they call it the page file. You can disable it though, if you have like 8 GB RAM or more.
Right now I'm using Decor8, but it's a 30 day trial. As for the wallpaper (Thumbed because it's huge): [t]http://www.galawallpapers.net/photo/97955/bridge-023.jpg[/t]
does it work exactly like Windows 8 regular wallpapers? Cause I want the wallpaper to "follow" when navigating the start menu. Also, why use Decor8 when this (which is free) exist: http://vhanla.deviantart.com/art/Windows-8-Start-Screen-Customizer-v1-3-beta-337308916 edit: just saw that decor8 features parallax scrolling and other shit, so yeah nevermind
I broke Windows8 3 times already.
1. Accidental unplugging of powersupply cord = "lol lets fuck up his installation, wich can't get repaired with the installation CD" 2. Installation of comodo firewall = "lol lets install some .sys files with makes kaukassus's computer bluescreen on boot, and make the repair mode refuse to work." 3. Updating the system = "lol something went wrong while updating, lets roll back the upda-- *bluescreen*" I have yet to see a single case on my PC where the repair mode form the Installaton CD does its job.
Is windows even dependant on a swap file?
I don't think so, since you can disable it. I think that it was just confused because I set that drive to be the swap drive, and then it couldn't find it. I'm surprised it didn't just boot and give me an error saying the swap file couldn't be found. Which is actually what it did when I booted into safe mode ("Windows has made a temporary swap file"...blah blah). Or if I need to boot into the recovery console to do a thorough check disk on the C: drive (Windows 7 has never, ever actually run a scheduled boot time scan for me, ever).

Wat.

You must be quite unlucky.
This is more of a request, since I'm pretty sure it isn't anything that can do it out there: Can someone link me a program that can have custom colors on the taskbar only. And have another background color for the pinned shortcuts. If there is nothing out there. Is it hard to make? Can anyone make it for me <3 or tell me how to mod windows? :)
Last time I had to use the repair CD (build 9200 I think) it put the Vista-style MBR on the machine. Wat.
I managed to break it ~build 8400, but also near the time I installed an extra hdd I had lying around. Needless to say, I repaired it and it booted with the Vista MBR, and I was astounded that it had decided to boot from my new drive which apparently had Vista on it. Moments later I realized that it hadn't. Also later on it did away with the Vista one and just gave me a black screen.
Is there a reason why I keep getting a flickering blue screen whenever I install 3rd party av and firewall?
I have the problem that when i shut down my pc skype.exe pops up and spits out some random error and it wont let me shut down until i press ok .
i have that with the g15 program occasionally

So I'm going to install Windows 8 today. Anybody have any tips or anything I should do to make Windows 8 better? Things to install or get rid of or whatever? I tried it out and didn't really like the way stuff pops up at the side of the screen if you hover in a corner

Thanks for the heads up. When you say start menu replacement do you mean something like start8?
So yeah, installed Windows 8 on the SSD I put in my laptop. These boot times are the tits!
I'm thinking about upgrading. I'm not so sure though. What are the quirks and the main differences you guys tend to run across?
I'm thinking about upgrading. I'm not so sure though. The more you use it, the more it grows on you though. I've been using it for a month on both my tablet and desktop. I don't even think about it anymore. Otherwise, its pretty much identical functionality wise.
What are the benefits to the new OS? Does it perform better on a typical PC? Are there any cool unique quirks to it? I'd love to just have a PC that can look flashy also instead of just being functional.

(boots in less than 20 seconds on a decent computer, especially if it has an SSD) - Even though lots of people say the new Metro interface sucks and it for tablets only, it's really easy to use it with mouse and keyboard, it's not that ugly, and you hardly use it anyway. (You can make it boot right to desktop if you want) - Small improvements to multiple monitor support (like taskbars on both monitors) - A really, really awesome new task manager (with lovely graphs!) - The minimum requirements are actually lower than those of Windows 7 (right?) Do I sound like a Microsoft salesman now?
Do I sound like a Microsoft salesman now?
would need more buzzwords, mentioning of "amazing" new features, and mentioning that you can share everything onto facebook from anywhere in your system.
Do I sound like a Microsoft salesman now?
No, so let me rewrite your points: - Optimizes your PC performance to max speeds. - Modern UI fuses form and function - it also doesn't discriminate between touch and mouse input, so navigating your PC has never been easier. - Productivity has been streamlined with new multimonitor features. - Reach PC synergy with the all-new Task Manager. - It runs on practically everything! Time to upgrade from XP. (Please stop using XP!) Sincerely, Microsoft

You have access to a lot more programs.
I upgraded from Vista to 8 last night, I don't have any problems other than the text smoothing which you apparently can't disable. Is there a way to completely disable text smoothing?
