The program will have to implement the feature afaik, so it's not of Microsoft's doing. Just lazy developers.
But it worked in Windows 7 which means that they changed something, it would be easier for Microsoft to make it work like in 7 than have all other developers bend around, wouldn't it?

It works fine in every program I use, which could only mean that the AECS6 was poorly coded in that d/d only works in previous version of Windows for whatever reason.
I just found out that you can't have two Metro apps open at the same time on different screens. That's incredibly stupid.
Hopefully SP1 will fix that..?
Does anyone else have the problem that drag n' drop doesn't work with some programs? I can't do it in After Effects CS6 from the Explorer, it's quite annoying.
Are the two applications running with separate privileges (i.e. explorer running regularly, After Effects running with administrator rights)? Programs running with separate privileges can't interact with each other via drag-drop. There's probably a way around that if the developer wants to, though. I don't have AE to check for it.
To anyone out there, I need your help if you have a Stack Overflow account! Microsoft has a contest, and my app is in the semi finals! I made a coding app that let's students solve programming challenges, and it needs your help to win the contest!
There's a difference between five licenses and five activations.
ive decided to put windows 7 back on it. Things on my desktop just aren't working properly
Hopefully SP1 will fix that..?
There isn't going to be a SP1.
There isn't going to be a SP1.
will there be an SP2?
after a while you start falling in love with windows 8 [thumb]http://i.imgur.com/xvyUD.jpg[/thumb] i have a start8 button only because it looks nice, still goes to metro
will there be an SP2?
No MS said they won't do SP packs but rather releasing new Windows version more often.
No MS said they won't do SP packs but rather releasing new Windows version more often.
Does that mean rebuying or just patching?
Rebuying of course, they don't make enough money. [editline]10th December 2012[/editline] "A new Windows every three months? Yes!"
Does that mean rebuying or just patching?
You still patch the system like you always would, and there will still be rollups, so really nothing's changed except Windows will be releasing more frequently instead of once every 3 years.
However, as is the case with Windows Blue, they're supposed to be making the midway versions free (at least for a starter version), or so I've heard.
if they're $40 or lower I have no problem with paying
if they're $40 or lower I have no problem with paying
The model hasn't done Apple wrong and the software costs for OS X has always been one of my favorite things about it compared to Windows.
The model hasn't done Apple wrong and the software costs for OS X has always been one of my favorite things about it compared to Windows.
Apple makes most of their money on the entry costs, though. That $1000 buy-in every few years is a lot of profit(without even mentioning the iOS scene). They can afford to offer their other services more cheaply, then. Plus, they run that whole iTunes thing... Which they make quite a bit of cash on. So there's that. Microsoft doesn't really have that luxury. They're working entirely on the costs of software and licensing agreements, so it makes sense that their OSes, and most of their software, cost more than the OS X counterpart. The difference isn't the software itself, but rather how the software development is funded.
Windows Starter is so featureless, it SHOULD be free.
Windows Starter is so featureless, it SHOULD be free.
I agree.
So, 2 small questions. How do I get chrome to open up normally everytime I start it(not in app-form) and how do I put a keyboard layout as standard?(everytime I start my pc up it switches to one that is wrong)

I'm not sure on the other one.
Menu -> Relaunch Chrome in Desktop mode. I'm not sure on the other one.
I mean everytime I click the app tile. I don't want to click it everytime I use chrome. Although, I just want it in the desktop so when I save something I don't have to switch to my desktop. Is there a way to make it switch automatically?
Don't pin the Metro version of chrome to your start menu, or pin it to your taskbar?
Don't pin the Metro version of chrome to your start menu, or pin it to your taskbar?
Was kinda trying to get used to the metro UI by launching everything from it for a while, but if theres no other way then I'll do that.
Bizarre, mine remembers the last option selected. I can't actually get to the Metro one without clicking that option again in Desktop mode.
Just tried it, and it only does it for as long as I don't shut my pc down. Edit: Nevermind, I'm an idiot.
Just got back from the Microsoft Showroom, and I really have to say that the Dell XPS 12 is one of the slickest products I've seen. Now, if I had the money, I'd definitely get one.
How is Windows 8 gaming wise? I've heard that it doesn't run a few games as a few devs (including valve) don't have full Win8 support yet... Am I just better off getting 7? What should I do? I know Windows 8 is a hell of a lot cheaper but I'd like to be able to run the games I bought

And I'm not even sure that's in any way related to Windows 8, it might as well just be because it's a shitty console port.
