How is Windows 8 gaming wise? I've heard that it doesn't run a few games as a few devs (including valve) don't have full Win8 support yet... Am I just better off getting 7? What should I do? I know Windows 8 is a hell of a lot cheaper but I'd like to be able to run the games I bought
I only had a few Problems with games like borderlands.
turned out, certain folders, wich stored the save files were write-protected.

Alright, So I did the $15 upgrade thing and I got a CD key with it, can I re use this key or is it a 1 time only kind of thing? Because of it is, I need a program that can make a perfect copy of my current HDD.
Good for games
Cool! I guess I'll upgrade to this then. I heard about LA Noire but I don't intend to play it. Thanks guys

iirc you can use it an infinite amount of times as long as you use the same motherboard as the first activation.
What if I want a new motherboard?

new windows
I bet if you bitch to microsoft enough, they will let you do it.
If they don't, piracy is completely justified in my opinion.
BAN BAN BAN.
But really, I agree.
[editline]13th December 2012[/editline]
I mean really. I may have cheated your system and payed less than what half what I was supposed to, but I should have it forever.
Maybe its only if you do a new install on a new motherboard. But keeping an old install with a new motherboard still works. I'm not sure you should google it.

So all you have to do, is put up with all the drivers/errors from the old one.
Genius.

You'll have to call Microsoft's automated number to get a code to activate Windows. I've done this plenty of times with OEM computers and OEM based installs. You don't have to get a new copy of Windows, you don't even need to reinstall. Just when you boot back in you'll have the watermark on your desktop and you'll be notified that it's no longer activated. It takes like 3 minutes to get it back going again.

I know that much, I just didn't know if they changed it in W8. Also I hate the phone thing. Always end up telling it to shut up, then having to start over.
Surely you could sysprep (revert to oobe) and "refresh" your PC after you move over to the new hardware?
Suppose so, still stupid.

if you can translate some of the words that would be a good first step (under type and status)
I hate non-english software.
Especially when someone calls me and asks how to fix something.
"Go to the device manager"
-"I don't see that anywhere"
"Just search for it..."
-"No results"
"Its in the control panel"
-"Oh do you mean 'apparaatbeheer'?"
"Fuck you"
i tried

Partition means Partition.
I need some serious help here.
I was on the internet and all of a sudden it stopped working.
I restart the PC, and it attempts to do some Updates, and then it restarts and says Windows ran into a problem and can't start.
Says it can go back to a backup of windows. I tried that and its not working now I have the options of Shutting down or going into advanced options?
What the fuck is wrong with it?
How can I get it back working? I just reformatted the computer the other day to put Windows 8 on it so I don't want to do it again

If you want to dual-boot, just shrink the C: partition. If you just want Windows 8 alone, you can format the HDD during installation.
So how do i install Windows 8 on this then, assuming i want to use the ssd with the hdd. how does it even work with the partition on the ssd.
[editline]14th December 2012[/editline]
Just Windows 8 btw. Don't need 7 alongside.

Boot into the windows 8 tool and install 8 onto the 280GB partition after you format it. If you dont care you can also remove the 14 gb recovery partition and merge it into the largest one.
If you just want to upgrade the installer is smart enough and you dont need to worry about it.

I know all that. What i want to know is how to make it work with the hybrid ssd/hdd.
If I can't boot into Windows how can I backup files using CMD prompt from the advanced settings page when you can't boot? It just opens the CMD window and I want to backup my files from C drive to my other internal drive so I can refresh without loosing my shit
So everyone expected Windows 8 tablets would have shitty battery life: http://www.engadget.com/2012/12/14/acer-iconia-w700-review/
It's only gonna get better when Haswell arrives.

That keyboard has an Alt Gr. key. I haven't seen one of those in years.
I hate keyboards without an AltGr key.
as a Programmer, this is fucking painful. (non-US Layout)
What does the Alt Gr key fucking do?
