So.. I can't download a Windows 8 iso legit via linux, macosx or under a proxy.
My only option is piracy? What the hell?
buy a cd?

What if he's just testing it inside a virtual-machine?
And then what if he doesn't like it? Waste of money.

I really don't understand why Microsoft doesn't supply official download links for their operating systems.
I don't actually have an optical drive and yes I wan't it for a virtual machine.
[editline]17th December 2012[/editline]
Why should I have to buy a CD anyway?

There is this for Windows 8
And if you have a TechNet subscription you can get iso's for Windows 8, Windows 7, Windows Vista and Windows XP. (Also all the Windows Server equivalents)
That requires a product key.

That software doesn't have proxy support so its useless to me. As well as anyone on non-Windows machines i.e. you can't run it on linux.
They need a direct link to the iso.

I bought a product key, it doesn't bother me that they require one.
It's actually a good idea, they just implemented it wrong.
Well this is cool.

Develop a Windows 8 app, even if it's brain-dead simple, and get a $100 gift card. (Presumably to the Microsoft store, but still, free is free.)
I have really wanted to try out Blend, and I have a tablet to test it on, so I have nothing to lose.

I should write up a Windows 7 downloader
I've grown a little tired with the default visual style of Windows 8, are there any really good visual styles for Windows 8? I've searched a few and I haven't found anything so far that looked better than the default theme.

I have the .iso for Windows 8 Pro, I'd upload it somewhere if you'd like me to.
Live tiles are kind of a novelty for me. They are cool when I first log in, or open the start screen, but they don't really offer me anything that I would like to see update in real time.
I like it a lot on my phone, but it isn't that useful on the desktop. Probably because I don't use much time in Metro environment anyway - if I had a tablet, I imagine that it'd be quite useful.
Running Win 8 now, still installing programs and such, I got start 8 and im back im back up and running again. Maybe when I get a surface I will migrate over and use the Metro UI more
Hp prebuild desktop pc, came with a Windows 7 downgrade preinstalled with HP crap.
Clean install of Windows 7 appears to be a pain due to the lack of a COA anywhere.(probably has to do with the new activation thing)

That would be amazing.
Annnd im going back to windows 7, all I have had is issue after issue after issue with this... Its not installing drivers properly, leaving my headphones not working

Why do you need drivers for headphones? Or is your sound card not working?
Why do you need drivers for headphones? Or is your sound card not working?
USB headphones, windows installed the drivers for it Audio stil played out the audio jack even after changing default devices, windows media player just threw errors out about it saying the device wasn't recognised, the actual headphones don't have drivers disk just plugin and go
Almost ack up in 7 with no issues
Alright, just got my SSD, but my install of Windows 8 on my mechanical drive is an upgrade from 7. Where can I actually get an ISO to do a clean install? I can't find one on my order page.
What is the currently cheapest way to obtain a valid windows 8 laptop-edition-whatever key? I have a legit copy of windows xp to upgrade from, if that helps.
So, is Windows 8 a good thing or bad? I just ordered a new laptop which comes with it. Is it well optimized, and can you do everything you could on older versions?
yes

Pretty much, few bugs here and there but you most likely wont run into them.

Is it just me or does that seem rather suspicious? All of the links go to skydrive, aside from the link to get your prize which links to some sort of form (which isn't on a secure page or even a Microsoft website) requesting among other things your address.
Is there any way to make it so that Chrome, FF, and Waterfox actually fully load instead of them loading a webpage forever? Afaik Asus released drivers back in I think Oct/Sept but really hasn't updated them.

perfectly legal to torrent the ISO as long as you have a legal product key

Well yeah, but I shouldn't be forced to.
Alright, what I did yesterday is download the Windows 8 upgrade app, use it to download Windows 8, then use the "boot from a disc" option to get a clean install.
You'll need an existing Windows computer to create one though which is fucking stupid - why not just give us an ISO download?
Jesus christ I love the Netflix app.
So I've just installed Windows 8 on my new SSD and all is well. Problem is, I'm confused about the whole fast boot thing.
Normally when it boots up it says resuming from hibernation, and I believe the new fast boot is due to it using some sort of semi-hibernation setting for powering off. Isn't this bad for my SSD, writing a file up to 8GB every time I power off? Should I turn off hibernation, and will this affect my boot times?
Also, any other settings I should be sure to change? I've moved the pagefile to my mechanical drive.

Windows 8 is made for SSDs and such things, I'd say the engineers at MS put a decent amount of thought into that.
Wouldn't worry about it too much, but disabling it would increase your boot times to Windows 7 times.
