i had to install drivers except it was for a receiver, so that was probably why
i had to install drivers except it was for a receiver, so that was probably why
Windows installed the drivers automatically for me with both the receiver and a wired controller. Even in Windows 7.

Making the plunge today. So everything that works in 7 works in 8 right? Mainly worried about Steam games having compatibility issues.
some games that use gfwl (like gta 4) might not start download this thingy to fix it: http://www.rockstargames.com/support/IV/PC/GFWLupdate/
Checking out these VivoTabs over the Surface Tablet. These things look pretty sweet, much better product for the price too: http://www.asus.com/vivo/en/vivoTab.htm I might get the Smart tab. I'm glad there are more tablets coming that don't use Windows RT.
I still need to call my university's library. How much longer is the $39 upgrade supposed to last?
Does anyone have a direct download link for 32 bit desktop? I really don't want to create a windows live account just to try it out.

(one that I run into with my VivoTab RT, nonetheless.)
dammit.. has anyone got 3ds max 2012 to run in window 8? i can perfectly install it fine but when i launch it it does nothing at all
mine wasn't official, they discontinued them/i can't find the official receivers anywhere.
I had to buy mine (the official adapter) used on Amazon. And it came with a wireless controller, basically new for $25. Not bad. Sometimes, buying used does pay off. [editline]5th January 2013[/editline]
Making the plunge today. The only program that has significant issues from what I've seen is Agricultural Simulator 2011. Multiplayer is just ridiculously broken. But I think I'll survive. :v:
Will upgrading from Vista to this make games run better, and everything faster and more stable? And will I have to reinstall all programs?
Will upgrading from Vista to this make games run better, and everything faster and more stable? And will I have to reinstall all programs?
I don't think you'll see any difference in game performance, but overall it should be quite a bit faster.
you'll have to reinstall programs but you'll keep docs and user content
dammit.. has anyone got 3ds max 2012 to run in window 8? i can perfectly install it fine but when i launch it it does nothing at all
Runs fine for me.

Well, I finally made the jump today. It's fine except for watchdog BSOD I get when restarting sometimes.
I've been using Win8 for awhile and I love it. Why do people hate it? It seems like 85% of people who say Win8 sucks is because they redesigned the Start Menu and added a store.

I don't know about you, but I hardly think that the old "lets dig through a hierarchy of menus to find the program we want to launch in a little box that takes up 1/8th of my screen" is any more efficient and easy to use. If anything typing what you want is the most efficient, and that wasn't removed anyway. So I'm not seeing what the big deal is.

So far as I can tell, it is at best as efficient as the Win7 start menu while simultaneously being less intuitive. The usual trade of is "more productive once you learn how to use it", but in this case it is "as productive or less productive once you learn how to exploit mechanisms designed with alternative input devices in mind." I prefer a command line interface for a great many operations, but at least once you learn the various commands and your shell's syntax it is more efficient than the most intuitive GUI. [editline]6th January 2013[/editline] This is all subjective and if you prefer the windows 8 start screen or are actually more productive with it then I don't mean to be holier than thou, but I've yet to see any bandwagons.

But all the hate does in fact confuse me because I haven't really had issues with it. Maybe I just do things a little differently from most people or less effected by UI changes. [editline]6th January 2013[/editline] Either way I'm getting really pissed off right now because Windows 8 (on this particular computer) refuses to see my Nexus 7. The driver doesn't even show up in Device Manager. But it works fine on my Windows 8 tablet, so its neither Windows 8 itself or the Nexus is at fault. God. Damn.

Getting ANYTHING (XP or 7) to recognize my kindle fire was trying, and I didn't realize the latest android build doesn't permit exposing the sdcard as a USB mass storage device so now I have to move files over the network.
hal.sys keeps Blue screening me and just out of the blue. Seems to be caused by hal.sys Anyone have any ideas?

Apparently Windows, in its infinite wisdom, set the MTP driver to the Android Debugging driver. [editline]6th January 2013[/editline] "Hey I know, let's set it to the wrong driver and say its 'working correctly'. That'll really piss him off and will be HILARIOUS".
You know, I haven't had any troubles getting my iPad mini recognized...
YES... YES! My college finally got keys for Windows 8 (Enterprise). 9 days before my Release Preview was going to expire. EDIT: the downside is, of course, that I now have to do a clean install... again. EDIT: NO... NO! Apparently the site is broken right now and won't let me accept the MSDNAA terms and conditions. EDIT: YES... YES! I fixed the bug myself. Someone accidentally added a line break to the value of the button that says "I Agree to the Above Terms and Conditions". I edited out the line-break through Chrome and then it worked. (Really sloppy web design, by the way; the button should have a simple value like "true" instead of using an entire phrase as the value.) EDIT: I forgot; this only gives me one key. So I'm still going to have to shell out $40 if I want to upgrade both my laptop and desktop. I have nothing against Windows 7, but I think it would be too weird to switch back and forth between hot corners and start menu whenever I go from desktop to laptop.
