Nobody doubted it for a second either, anyone who has used RT knows it's a direct port. With an install size of like 14 gigs how could it not be?
let's post this in SH and have another windows 8 shitstorm
So now that Windows RT is "jailbroken" how are people exactly supposed to get programs compiled for the desktop?

Pretty sure there's an ARM compiler floating around somewhere. Someone found an ARM debugger on the Surface, so it's likely that the compiler isn't far behind

Doesn't .NET now support ARM?
it has pretty much full windows 8, just on arm
no debug libs tho
Isn't there a remote debugger in VS2012?
Is there anything I can download that will check all my drivers? WhoCrashed saying that it's most likely a driver issue causing my BSOD.
Go into your error log under Windows and find which file was at fault. The file will be specific to a certain piece of hardware.

Microsoft can be cool once in a while. Hope they don't patch it up.
We applaud the ingenuity of the folks who worked this out and the hard work they did to document it. We’ll not guarantee these approaches will be there in future releases.
That quote alone means "yeah, we'll get around to patching it eventually."

Seems like I can't avoid getting a touchscreen in my Haswell Ultrabook: http://www.engadget.com/2013/01/08/kirk-skaugen-interview/
Really wanted one, anyway.
Good guy Microsoft: released a security update to Windows 8 RP on December 11 (which I somehow missed), even though Windows 8 GA was October 26, and RP expires January 15.
Hey guys, it seems that my hard disk is losing space like 1gb every time I boot my computer. I just recently purchased this new windows 8 notebook. Anyone having this kind of dilemma?
It's perfectly normal, your hard drive is equalizing air pressure and re-calibrating it's space every time you boot
I have used the upgrade thingy on my desktop from Windows 7 (a long time ago ofc)
But the win7 key, can it be used on my macbook?
Sent my laptop in for repair, when I get it back gonna take advantage of the Acer Windows 8 offer. (They'll refund the cost of Windows 8 for your laptop)
Id Win8 as much of an asshole towards bootloaders as Win7 was? I am dualbooting Mint and Win7 and I kind of want to got to 8 but I can't find a boot-repair program for mint.

Yep, as long as you only have it activated on one computer, you'll be fine.
You know those fake Aero thingies for XP? They kind of work on 8 :v:

I did that a while ago, though it only worked on some windows and not all.
doesn't work on built-in windows 8 stuff

windows 8 isn't any better or worse than the other windows bootloaders.
[editline]10th January 2013[/editline]
as far as linux goes
I am thinking of getting Windows 8, but the thing I am not sure of is the support for older games.
Do old games play well on windows 8? Like engines from DOS (Doom), Goldsrc(Half-Life) to Unreal(Unreal,Deus Ex) and that?

aka it's still a pain in the arsehole
Unless you've already installed windows, that is. Then just boot in to windows from GRUB.

I think performance is identical to Windows 7. Heroes of Might And Magic III runs like a charm.

Support is the same as Windows 7. If it ran on Windows 7 64-bit, it'll run on Windows 8 64-bit. All the compatibility features are still there; Windows 8 is technically a minor update (6.1 -> 6.2). The only thing that doesn't run, on both, is 16-bit games.
I've had some issues with old games myself, Divine Divinity, Dungeon Keeper 2 and SWAT 3 for example run slow as shit, SWAT 3 especially is totally unplayable, while on Windows 7 they worked fine. And it's not just me since other people on the GOG forums are having the same issues with these and some other old games.
