Well the Surface Pro also lacks a proper stylus spot. It's like, in the worst place ever. I hate it. I hate the Surface Pro too, I knew it'd be a terrible tablet and lo and behold, it's a terrible tablet and a terrible ultrabook in one!

Yeah I suppose the pen's spot is pretty crap, but "the pen doesn't get in the way during two handed use" so you never know until the reviews start rolling out
I'm just curious if anyone said a single thing along the lines of "what if you don't want to use the stylus while the tablet is charging?"

Metro's pretty fun when you have icons that match.

I think it's a bit too early to judge. I like the look of it, and if I'm charging the thing, I could probably manage to put the pen somewhere beside it. It isn't like I'm gonna be moving around a lot when charging it.
I'm still a bit uncertain about the keyboard - I really need a proper keyboard if i'm gonna be using it as a laptop.
I installed Windows 8 on my desktop a few days ago and now I have discovered a really annoying problem. If I start the computer with fast boot, random hardware will not be started correctly leaving the system partly unusable. Most of the time, the USB controller doesn't work which leaves all my input devices un-powered. Once it also failed to load the Ethernet controller.
If I hold down the power button, forcing the computer to shutdown and not prepare fast boot, it will start just fine afterwards, without any problems. Restarting also works just fine.
My rig is fairly new (Sandy bridge build) so I can't see why it should not work. I am currently using UEFI and not BIOS mode.
So far I have tried to update the UEFI-BIOS but that did not help. I also tried to look for newer drivers, but it seems that half of the drivers are STILL beta versions from November last year.

I just hope it's almost as strong as the T series laptops are
Hello guys. I just upgraded to 8 and I really like it, but I don't like the color that I selected. Is there a way to customize the start screen?
They improved the charging port for the Surface Pro (3rd paragraph), so maybe build quality's been improved overall.
Eh I watched the news coming out of CES and like the Thinkpad Helix and Vizio (if there's a keyboard dock) a lot more. 1080p, 11.6" screen. Might be a better balance for me between tablet and laptop than getting a 10.6" (and why can't someone do a 2x DPI display already)
Will they ever lower the price?
I have some problems with my Windows 8. When i am connected to the network it takes about 3 minutes or more for it to connect to my network so that i have internet, on windows 7 i never had that problem.
Sometimes it doesn't even do anything so i just have to reboot. Does anyone know any fix to this?".
open the charms bar, settings, change pc settings, personalize, start screen.
Thanks!
I absolutely love the sync feature. Just installed it on my netbook with this same key and I didn't have to configure nothing at all. It saved me almos three quarter hours.
Hey, I am on Win 8 to go on my netbook now, the only problem, I can't start any apps because those run in 1024x800 minimum, the netbook is at 1024x600 and the display resolution dialogue doesn't go any higher, any way to circumvent this?

but hey you get to run all your fucking apps and shit
because that's what everybody wants from a tablet right?
Like I can't understand how people want the Surface Pro. Just get an ultrabook and an iPad and call it good.

I can't understand how people are okay with the Metro UI in general. I've been using Windows 8 for weeks, and I still can't stand the fucking thing. Start8 is my lord and savior.
Like I can't understand how people want the Surface Pro. Just get an ultrabook and an iPad and call it good.
Yeah, why carry one device when you can carry two, right? It's not like it's gonna cost a lot more as well, right? The Surface Pro is by no means a perfect device, but if the typing experience is okay-ish (it's not like the experience on Ultrabooks are great anyway), I wouldn't say it's a bad product. At all.
Well I have been looking to what would serve me the best as a pc and a tablet, have been looking at the surface since it was shown. Right now I have seen a few that caught my eye, there is the Sony vaio Duo 11, the Thinkpad Helix and the IdeaPad Yoga 13.
Sadly the sony vaio doesnt seem to have the best keyboard layout, but it has a 1080p display at $1199.
[t]http://store.sony.com/wcsstore/SonyStyleStorefrontAssetStore/img/GalleryLarge/duo_11_galleryTab_1.jpg[/t][t]http://store.sony.com/wcsstore/SonyStyleStorefrontAssetStore/img/400x275/US-SVD112190X-LBOM_CTOBLACK.jpg[/t]
Then there's the Thinkpad helix which is almost perfect but $1499 is a little bit steep for me but it seems to be the best option as far as quality and it has a 1080p display too.
[t]http://cdn1.sbnation.com/entry_photo_images/7414119/2012-10-04_04-08-48-1024_verge_super_wide.jpg[/t]
After that comes the Ideapad yoga 13 which seems to be the more convenient of these, but the way it folds and leave the keyboard exposed might be a little bit awkward to hold to, only noticeable thing with this one is that it doesn't have a 1080p display, but since I have never used one don't know if it's that big of a deal, if it isn't then probably this would be the perfect one for $1149.
[t]http://asset2.cbsistatic.com/cnwk.1d/i/tim/2012/11/05/Lenovo_IdeaPad_Yoga_13_35477652_35477652_35510546_35510543_35510544_04_610x436.jpg[/t][t]http://asset1.cbsistatic.com/cnwk.1d/i/tim/2012/11/07/App_lenovoyoga_610x436.jpg[/t]
Finally the Surface pro the smaller one, the one with the commodities of a tablet with the plus of a full keyboard for $1129 but the keyboard has it's problems.
At the end I'm looking for a tablet with laptop capabilities I might switch to the ultrabook Yoga 13 since it's more a laptop than a tablet unlike duo 11 and surface pro.
Like I can't understand how people want the Surface Pro. Just get an ultrabook and an iPad and call it good.
Well, I have been looking at the surface pro because it's more compact than carrying an ultrabook and a tablet, since it can do both. That's great if you go to uni and don't want to be carrying a lot of electronics, you can entertain yourself between classes edit stuff. Basically do laptop stuff with a more compact thing. That's pretty good coming from a tablet.

i hate how everybody makes these icons too big to fit the app name
I created a Win8 to go through Win 7, unfortunately I don't seem to have the Group Policy Object Editor for whatever dumb reason, the Win 8 image I used was rtm.
Now I need that to enable app store apps for Windows To Go, any ideas?
What "laptop stuff" do you want to do?
Well usually at uni I have to edit word files for an assignment, read ebooks to do research, edit presentations and show them(VGA port is necessary for this), surf the web and edit code, it's usually faster than going to the library and do the same but there and sometimes they don't have the software or your preferences.
Friend of mine has that first Vaio thing, I tried it out and it was really neat. It's kinda heavy so I'd say it's more of a laptop with tablet abilities.
The XPS 12 would definitely be my choice if I had the money.

Gotta say trying RT tablets has ruined me though
If I can get something powerful enough to run say Eclipse for uni and thin+light enough to hold for a while for watching TV/movies, and hopefully 1080p or better then I'm happy. Those fat tablets look like they'll kill arms really quickly
[editline]14th January 2013[/editline]
Clover Trail tabs look the best for me if it weren't for the fact they're really weak graphics-wise (Vizio says they can't do 1080p)
RT was a blooming failure.
It could have been alike to the x86 versions but noo, it's so locked down
Yeah, why carry one device when you can carry two, right? It's not like it's gonna cost a lot more as well, right? Okay, so do you want a laptop? Then buy a laptop. Do you want a tablet? Buy a tablet. The Surface Pro is terrible as a laptop and it's terrible as an ultrabook. Unless you'll want to shell out another $100 or so for the type cover, the typing experience will be terrible, too.
[editline]13th January 2013[/editline]
Hell, I'd go so far to say Windows 8 was a blooming failure period. The hardware they've introduced is crap, they leave a lackluster tutorial for the new interface, and the new interface while me and plenty of other people like it is far from perfect.
