It says 10 days on the download page. I just need installation media. I haven't received a serial yet, but I imagine that will come with the Disk when it arrives?
Says 90 days for me on that page, multiple times. Unless it's different in different regions or something.
That is the only genuine trial you can get at the moment afaik since the preview versions expired. A normal Windows 8 installation asks for the serial during the installation, you can't skip it and input it later like you could with Windows 7.
No, borrowed it of a friend, and bought an activation code.
Edit: This problem is depressing as fuck. Is there anyone who has instlaled Windows 8 through Linux before?
The install through Linux, unless they changed it, is simply giving yourself partition space and using boot media to install on the new partition. There's some trickery to keep GRUB but I don't know it off the top of my head.

But it's the boot media I'm having problems with. I'm giving the above developer evaluation a go, not far from finishing the download.
Guys I'm getting desperate right now. I need to get Windows 8 on my machine to use Photoshop. My Windows 8 disc still hasn't arrived, and I feel stranded on Linux. I'm trying to complete work for my father in GIMP, but I can't learn it enough, in time to do what he needs done and he's starting to get angry and he is impossible to get through to when he's this frustrated. I have tried creating bootable USBs, DVDs, but nothing seems to be working. Does anyone know where I can get a genuine trial windows 8 iso so I can burn it too a disk? I will purchase another fucking license when I get the chance.
You could try the Windows 8 Enterprise Evaluation
I'm pretty sure you can update it to a full version with your key too.
[editline]/[/editline]
Download links are at the bottom of the page
[editline]:([/editline]
"It is not possible to upgrade the evaluation to a licensed working version of Windows 8 Enterprise. A clean installation is required." nvm about the key part. Best to stick with the Dev edition your downloading now as it's almost done
I give up. the burner keeps crashing, my dad is just fucking yelling at me and i cant be bothered anymore.
How about CS6?
i just got a windows 8 laptop and i'm enjoying it so far. a few complaints i have...
- scrollbars are hard to see. i can barely see the scrolly part since its nearly the same color as the backdrop. is there a way to change this?
- i like the start menu but switching to the start menu from the desktop view is kind of annoying. you have to either do a mouse gesture with the fingerpad or move the mouse into the bottom left corner awkwardly until a button appears for the start menu. is there a way to make the button just stay there permanently? and how come the mouse gesture only works with my fingerpad but not my usb mouse?
- shutting down my computer is only accessible using the aforementioned mouse gesture. kind of annoying. and why the shit is turning off my computer considered a setting? something as basic as an on/off button shouldn't be tucked away in a settings menu.
this shit has probably been mulled over here before but i think these are the major problems with windows 8. everything else is nice.

Not sure about the scrollbars, though I agree with my laptop's mediocre screen (Colours and viewing angles aren't great), it's sometimes hard to see.
You don't have to wait for the button, just fling the mouse into the bottom left corner and click. Alternatively, press the windows key.
Change the hardware power button to shutdown (Control panel, power options, "Choose what the power buttons do"), press Alt-F4 on the desktop or make a shutdown shortcut on the desktop or start screen.

wine performance is very very subjective, WineHQ is only good for objective bugs like not launching and stuff

Power button on your laptop no longer puts the PC to sleep in Windows 8, it turns it off. Way easier than Win + I > Power > Shut Down.

This is configurable in the power settings either way.
Honestly, don't know if anyone can help me out, I'll post anyways:
Windows 8 scales the start screen's icons based on DPI (from what I've read). Using nvidia surround, I have a 7680 x 1440 setup, where windows thinks my three monitors are actually a single huge one. The scaling basically fucks me, as I end out with THREE ROWS, each icon measures about 6.5cm x 6.5cm in real life, and the text doesn't seem to scale to match it.
I've tried googling etc, what I'm after is a way to increase the amount of rows, and hence, decrease the size of these god damned icons!

If you have no programs open on the desktop or click the taskbar, Alt + F4 brings up the old Windows shutdown menu.
Nice. I really miss the windows7 theme.
I don't really like the windows8 theme.
Are there any good themes for windows8?
so i'm trying to delete some shit and my computer won't let me. is there any way to get full priviledges other than enabling the hidden admin account?

Just enable the account, delete it, then disable the account again. Although, if your already on an admin account, you should be able to delete it anyway, unless the permissions got really messed up somehow.

You can now buy DLC for your OS?
What will Microsoft think of next?
EDIT: Also, why's the Pro Pack cheaper than the Pro Upgrade, and why is there a $100 price difference between them? I'm confused, Microsoft.
anyone know how to retile the windows store and mail client with oblytile? I can't figure it out and they're the last things messing up my start screen

Windows 8 Pro upgrade = Windows 7 -> Windows 8 Pro
Pro Pack = Windows 8 -> Windows 8 Pro (with Media Center Pack)

Okay... They really should state that more clearly.
Also, can you upgrade from Windows 7 Ultimate to Windows 8 "Basic" or whatever?

Just added like 30 events on the Calendar app for due dates of college work, and it turns out you can only add it to your Microsoft account and not Google or anything else. What's doubly fun is you can't sync calendar events from Live to Windows Phone 7. What the fuck is going on over at Microsoft? Is this really the shit to expect? Can't fucking properly sync between two Microsoft devices?

Except I always remap the power button to "hibernate", because it's what I do more often with my laptop than shutting it down.

It syncs to Google cal for me.
Been using Windows 8 on my ROG i think it's alright, I really just installed start8 and it basically feels like 7 to me so I may just upgrade my desktop to it also and use start8

Well it says my account is an admin account and i set the UAC to the lowest setting. But there's some mcaffee shit that came with this laptop i was trying to delete and i can't get access to delete the few files left over. This definitely is some sort of new thing with Windows 8.
No, it's McAfee.
I've never encountered a situation on windows 7 where i was unable to delete something or change permissions on something. This is just a massive headache.
