I've never encountered a situation on windows 7 where i was unable to delete something or change permissions on something. This is just a massive headache.
Having a problem with permissions? I was able to get rid of it all in safe mode. McAfee should be considered malware or assware or something
I was able to get rid of it all in safe mode. McAfee should be considered malware or assware or something
Even John McAfee doesn't use McAfee.
John has even committed two crimes iirc (wasn't one murder?)
John has even committed two crimes iirc (wasn't one murder?)
He has never been convicted of a crime. He was once arrested for unlicensed drug manufacturing and possession of an unlicensed weapon, but was released without charge. He is also a "person of interest" in the murder of American expatriate Gregory Viant Faull. He has not been charged in that either, but for some reason he believes Belizean police want to kill him, so he's on the run in Guatemala. Interesting person. EDIT: Oh, and for the unlicensed drug manufacturing stuff, he has been identified as a user named "stuffmonger" on http://www.bluelight.ru, where he talks about purifying MDPV. But I'm not sure of the exact source of that identification.
He had a horrendous MDPV addiction and was trying to synthesize the perfect drugs as well as finding what was inside those legally sold "incense" "bath salts" "moth balls" and related items sold in gas stations. He was delusional from the MDPV and had other mental illnesses.
Just got a vaio laptop. The brightness is automatically set at max and when I turn it down, it jumps back to max everytime I press keys on the keyboard. Anyone else ever get this?
One social security number for each left box, with the name on the right. That's what I would do in this situation
Got it working after a reboot. Now it's tugging along happily.
Serious problem here. My friend's new win8 laptop refuses to open anything except the file browser. No chrome, no command prompt, no task manager, no msconfig. I got into safe mode, but windows defender isn't working and mcAfee won't uninstall. Currently 23% through 'refreshing' the computer, but not sure if this will help. My opinion of windows 8 so far is not positive. Need help ASAP. Paper due in wednesday and this laptop needs to get running now. [editline]21st January 2013[/editline] Fixed after three hours by using the 'refresh' function from safe mode.
I still don't understand why Microsoft is not taking about the surface pro whatsoever. It's supposedly coming out in the next few weeks and they aren't promoting it, accepting pre-orders, or anything. It's like they just WANT it to fail.

I wish Windows could have a UI as beautiful as this:
What OS is this and the UI?
Elementary OS, a new in beta Linux distro. The desktop environment is Pantheon.

Looks p ugly imo
Why did they place the maximize[SUP](?)[/SUP] button to the right, but the close button to the left?
Because they're copying OSX in this sense:
Damn, downgrading Windows 8 pro to 7 pro doesn't seem as easy as one would think.
Just a quick warning guys: It seems installing Avast, then downloading the WHQL 3.10 Nvidia drivers are causing problems with 8 Pro. Causes the inability to boot properly because of default video settings or something. I just got myself on 8, did all the necessaries, and the last thing I do is install my GPU drivers. Casually on Potatoeshop, next thing I know "Windows has encountered and error" and so on. Didn't have a back-up as I didn't expect such a fatal-ish error so soon. Lesson learnt.
Thinking of buying Windows 8 for $40 via digital download. Will it only work for one machine, or can I install it legally on multiple?
Thinking of buying Windows 8 for $40 via digital download. Will it only work for one machine, or can I install it legally on multiple?
One machine per license. That's been the policy since forever.
What problems have your run into? I had to quickly install it this morning and get to work. Looking forward to getting home tonight and trying it out.
Getting the right product key since theres no key on the cases anymore. The one I managed to read out that seemingly seemed to match the one in the activation center but it didn't work because there can't be an "N" in Windows 7 keys which apparently was present in the windows 8 one. This was on a new HP Desktop PC which for some reason wasn't ordered with the downgrade pre-installed.
So I've been using Windows 8 for about a month now, and I absolutely love it. I thought it would be hard to use without the start button, but it really isn't. I love minimalism so this OS is perfect

Weird name though. You'd think they would throw the "with" into that name (Like its brother, the Surface WITH Windows RT...)
