it's just that you're describing it as a horrible abomination and that's not really true
between the poor performing hardware, code integrity and a lackluster app store, it's definitely not worth $500
iPad Mini. Join the Sheeple. We've got the biggest selection of FART APPS!
between the poor performing hardware, code integrity and a lackluster app store, it's definitely not worth $500
Value is subjective. The only thing that has definitive, objective value to the entire population is currency itself.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Subjective_theory_of_value
poor performing hardware and code integrity making the OS schizophrenic are hardly subjective.
poor performing hardware and code integrity making the OS schizophrenic are hardly subjective.
If it's "definitely not worth it" then why is Ezhik still interested in buying one? The subjective nature of value is a fact, there's no discussion to be had.
because Microsoft are good at making it look appealing. honestly if you want to see how poorly it performs I can pull out my tablet and show you. IE consistently freezes only with one tab open and only IE open.

like, I see the appeal of full blown windows on a superportable device and it's totally one reason why I do like it, but I think they would have been better off not actually making it full blown windows, y'know? it just doesn't run well on weaker hardware. and with code integrity in the mix they clearly don't care about the desktop beyond word (which runs fine and I have used before when I had to do a homework assignment before class.) That's what i'm talking about when I say half-baked. I just think it could have been so much better, because i'm pretty sure the majority of people who have them are nerds like me who crave new shit and tech journalists and that doesn't speak well to it's appeal to the average joe.

Dad gave me his copy of Windows 8 Pro upgrade; he didn't like it at all (primarily game performance issues, ran unusually slow). Figured i'd give it a try, but don't want to have to reinstall if I don't end up liking it. Is it possible to create a multi-boot Windows 7 and 8 using an upgrade CD? EDIT: I guess not.
you get file system access and it comes with everything a normal windows 8 comes with not all people need that shit but i do and i don't want to have no battery life at all because i wanted a good file manager [editline]25th January 2013[/editline] rt is still less locked down you can sideload metro apps not to mention that there's a jailbreak [editline]25th January 2013[/editline] i have a nexus 7 and i don't want to touch android tablets ever again [editline]25th January 2013[/editline] this is what android keeps doing after all this time and after all these hardware improvements
This has more to do with The Verge being such an awfully designed site than anything
Considering upgrading from Vista, how much more efficient would this be on my system? Would it free up memory for my games and other programs?
Anybody know any good sites for tiles? I know about tile8 but there's not enough tiles on there.
Considering upgrading from Vista, how much more efficient would this be on my system? Would it free up memory for my games and other programs?
Eh, maybe? It has a bit more to do with your running processes. If you've got a bunch of crap installed you would enjoy a clean install very, very much.
How well would windows 8 run on a Samsung NC10? I've heard 8 is supposed to be optimized and less resource intensive
The Atom is rather anemic as is but it'll run Windows 8 just fine.
This has more to do with The Verge being such an awfully designed site than anything
No. I've used the Nexus 10 extensively and it's awful compared to the Nexus 7, let alone Windows tablets or the iPad. It has a pathetic GPU to drive that display.
Didn't you tell me a while back your WinRT tab(the Asus one?) felt like it performed better than the fourth gen iPad?
In Metro, it does.
Eh, maybe? It has a bit more to do with your running processes. And would that have an effect on running games more efficiently? [editline]25th January 2013[/editline] And of course I'll benefit from a clean install, even though I try to keep the crap at a minimum. My question is if 8 is objectively faster than Vista, and has a noticeable effect on programs and games. I haven't been able to find any definitive answers on this, and I would like to know a bit more before I test it.
It's noticeably faster than 7 in a lot of small tasks. Gaming performance is kinda a case-by-case basis but I guarantee you it will never be worse.

Especially now the upgrade is still cheap.
I got this in my email today. B8C9B-7Y32Y-NOKEY-4UFP1-TQ4FQ. It says it's a Windows Media Center Pack key. I run Win7 though. What does this thing do? Is it of any use at all?

It to get WMC on Windows 8.
Would it be better than windows 7?
What Panda X said - you get access to WMC on Win 8 which is like an addon.
I must have signed up for when it was free a long while back when I planned to buy Win8. Thanks.

It's basically OS DLC. Weird concept, but it seems to work in practice.
