"Secure Boot isn't compatible with your PC" I can just ignore that right? When downloading W8 through the Upgrade assistant, will I get the .iso file when it's done? Or will it just ask me to burn it to a disc immediately?
They are going to fix some things but probably not the way anyone apart from microsoft likes it. For example in windows blue it is rumored that they are going to kill all remaining traces of transparency on the task bar because having beautiful effects seemingly distracts the user from the rest of the screen.
I fail to how they're going to make it look good without transparency, I honestly cannot stand the new theme, it drives me mental it looks that bad. To me Windows 8's new desktop theme looks like a kids program from the early 2000s. Sorry, but that's just how I feel about it. [sp] Fucking change it Microsoft. It makes me want to punch the wall, it looks that bad to me. It's almost as if someone at Microsoft wants to drive me mad[/sp]
Yeah you can ignore it, Secure Boot was a good idea but it was bastardized since Microsoft are using it to stop you loading other OS's onto your computer.
Thanks! I've got some more questions. Can I perform a clean install with the W8 upgrade? boot from dvd, and just format the ssd and install it, or do I have to choose upgrade? Also if I decide to go back to Windows 7, can I use the W8 key again on another computer or on the same computer again? Or for example let's say my ssd doesn't work anymore and I have to buy a new one, can I install it on the new one then?
About to install win 8, and I was wondering, since I have my Steam and Steam games on a different drive than C:, do I have to reinstall it all, or can it just do a (semi)quick validation and then everything is fine?
Anyone?
I've never seen any steam games put files outside of steamapps, except for save files
I've never seen any steam games put files outside of steamapps, except for save files
Quite a lot of games place the save files in Documents and the like.
Sounds good, as long as I backup my saves I should be good to go? Another question: I've got a Vista backup ready in case of emergency, or at least I think I do. The discs I wrote the recovery on are somewhat old, and I'm not sure I did it right. Is there a way to check? I think i used some Acer recovery. Or should I get a better backup program and overwrite the discs? And if it all fucks up, is it possible to find vista as a torrent, and then give it my legal product key? No piracy intended, of course.
Shit I simply cannot decide whether to buy it or not.. I have tried it a little at a friend's computer but I just fail to see anything useful with Metro (or whatever it is called). Do you guys use any useful apps? Is there anything in particular that you think makes it better than W7?

It's just a more intelligent OS in general; for example, my laptop was running Win7 on a SSD, and I installed one of the Win8 previews to check it out. I had my fun, but there weren't any drivers that worked properly with my switchable GPU hardware, so I switched back. Win7 ran a lot faster than it did before because Win8 did a better job of TRIMming the the drive and keeping it in good condition.
But I mean the ipad is 2048x1536 and the Nexus 10 is 2560x1600, they have to compete.
so many people actually just don't care remember when the iphone 4 came out and people were like you can't see pixels unless you put the phone to your face wow what a revolution and the ipad mini is selling in droves and it's not retina
stop with the pointless windows insulting, your tablet isn't working properly, i just posted a video that shows the browser working properly
the surface sucks, deal with it.
the surface sucks, deal with it.
Yeah, every reviewer out there saying "It's a decent tablet, and if you want to be a bit more productive, it's a good choice" are just inherently wrong because you had a bad experience. State your opinion if you want, but this isn't even arguing. Personally I think Tegra 3 was a very bad choice, but that doesn't make it a bad product in itself.
I tried a Surface, and honestly, I think it's probably not a bad tablet for internet browsing and minor productivity stuff. It is, however, rather heavy. My iPad Mini isn't heavy. I'm a shallow person, so I'll stick with the light iPad.
all I'm saying is wait for it to be $199 on Woot in June [editline]27th January 2013[/editline] furthermore buying an ARM Windows tablet when competitively powerful and power-efficient X86 processors are around the corner seems like a poor decision to me
What i really would like is a version of asus padfone 2 with windows 8, you plug the phone into the tablet and you got rt, you take it out and have windows phone 8 again.
the surface sucks, deal with it.
you had one argument going for you and it was a lie [editline]28th January 2013[/editline] if somebody basically wants a tablet with a file manager and a good browser why shouldn't they try rt
the surface sucks, deal with it.
Okay you were literally proven wrong and just said "nope, nope, I'm right, deal with it." The Surface is fine. It's a tablet, and it works as advertised.

I'm certain the ipad mini will have a retina display soon enough, I suppose they couldn't afford the display just yet.

You really don't notice the lower DPI. I can assume the surface is the same way.
I can use a device without a retina display, but when I've been using my iPhone for a while and I look at my pc display or someone with a phone that doesn't have a retina display (or screen with high ppi) it does look outdated. It's not too bad with most things but you do start to notice it with small details or text. If I was getting another device I'd want it to have a retina display
I can't speak for the Surface but I'm kinda used to Windows not having amazing PPI so it's not jarring at all.

Windows 8 V1: Protocol7 hates the Surface
Ain't no reason to buy an ARM windows tablet when the Clover Trail CPU exists
I hope this isn't a stupid question but the upgrade assistant upgrades the license of the windows it was used on right? So I could upgrade my old vista license if I did it on there?
