Created one. Now it says the disk is invalid. It's pretty strange.
Who the fuck came up with the idea of making Safe mode something you can only access when everything is working perfectly fine?

IIRC the F8 hotkey still exists, it's just that the time window for it to be registered is on the order of 100 milliseconds now.
[editline]31st January 2013[/editline]
Actually I'm not sure if the hotkey still exists, but the number was "less than 200 milliseconds": http://blogs.msdn.com/b/b8/archive/2012/05/22/designing-for-pcs-that-boot-faster-than-ever-before.aspx

Call Microsoft's activation number.
Call Microsoft's activation number.
Also make sure that you don't have asshole roomates/family members that like to yell random things while your on the call. It confuses the fuck out of the automated service.
And being a german speaker understanding the numbers the norwegian woman says is kinda hard had to repeat the letters serveral times, but puh that was easy lol :v:

Windows 8 boots too quickly to intercept an F8 keypress. It does try to detect bootlooping and automatically boot in safe mode.

I love cell phones; I always go outside on my balcony and close the door to make a phone call.

Yeah, not such a good idea when its -10 F outside.
Getting rid of 8 on the family laptop, they generally don't like it and nor do I, 7/Mint ahoy
[editline]1st February 2013[/editline]
Generally overall they found it really annoying to use with a trackpad, I don't expect them to really pick up on Win8 gestures because they're not the most tech literate people around. They're also accustomed to 7 at this point, because they use it own their own devices.

Meh, I go out in that weather anyway to smoke.

You, uh, still got that key?
This is why Windows 8 is the best OS Microsoft ever made:
So I went to install Hyper-V from Windows Features so I could try running a Windows 7 VM on it. Installed it and rebooted as needed. Well here comes the good part. Once I was back at the logon screen, no USB device would work. Not the mouse, nor the keyboard, or anything else. So I couldn't not in anyway get past the lock screen. I knew Windows didn't freeze because the clock was up to date and kept going. So my only solution was to do a system restore. However I got my ISO from MSDNAA and didn't have it burnt to a disc or anything. So after about 7 forced reboots and trying to hit F8 just in time, which they've butchered because waiting 1 second more to boot is torture apparently, I finally got it.
Install a built in feature of Windows, break Windows, make it near impossible to recover if you don't have a disc.
I can't see why there's so much negative opinions and hatred towards 8.
sounds like someone hates change

Ouch. Haven't heard that happen before, but still, sucks.
I am trying to upgrade from Windows 7, the installation takes about 2 hours, and after I enter my choice of colour, settings and my password, the screen goes blank. I waited half an hour, nothing.
After a reset, the windows 8 logo shows up, blank screen for 2-3 minutes and then it starts restoring Windows 7. I wasted about 6 hours by doing this two times.
What am I doing wrong?

I don't know, took like 15 minutes on my laptop. Try formatting and install instead of upgrading (I'm assuming you're doing that) maybe?
I'm still amazed how fast Windows 8 Boots.
It takes less than 10 seconds for me and I'm not even using a SSD or something.

This is very common and will happen to everyone at least twice a day.

Sounds like a recent experience of Windows XP on a Dell computer that had no PS/2 ports

My point is it shouldn't happen at all. And I'm not the only one who's experienced it.
Maybe someone will be interested in this: http://www.msfn.org/board/topic/161788-aero-glass-for-win8-v02
Brings back Aero glass to Windows 8 (x64). And actually works.

It may sound cliched, but have you rebooted? It's worth a try so long as you are trying to inject DLLs into the window manager.

It doesn't need a reboot. It injects, not replaces.
It should should work after you click ok on the dialog.

I think it's shift+F8 to reach the new ~recovery mode~ now. Though if you use Bitlocker like me, the login screen will pretty much push recovery mode out of its face, disallowing you to boot to safe mode when shit's hit the fan. Maybe I'm not pressing it fast enough.
