Brings back Aero glass to Windows 8 (x64). And actually works.
All we need is for this to have text glow, window animations, and to run in the background. Then my complaints with the horrid desktop UI will be (for the most part) gone!

Text glow is still supported in DWM. The button glow however isn't. And animations haven't changed in Windows 8, they still use Vista's.
Here's what 7's Aero looks like in Windows 8 with DWM blur:
Getting rid of 8 on the family laptop, they generally don't like it and nor do I, 7/Mint ahoy
[editline]1st February 2013[/editline]
Generally overall they found it really annoying to use with a trackpad, I don't expect them to really pick up on Win8 gestures because they're not the most tech literate people around. They're also accustomed to 7 at this point, because they use it own their own devices.
yeah, I set up my grandmas new laptop and i found the trackpad to be an awful way to interact with the OS. Its much easier with a mouse.
in any case, Im having trouble uploading images to certain websites from my dropbox folder while in chrome (windows 8 mode only). Any ideas or similar experiences?
Thanks for all the interesting suggestions to save my Windows 8. Going to give it a try.
When I connected my phone for remote desktop, this Media Control thing popped up:

I have no idea how to get this thing up, can someone tell me how?

Its part of the metro music player.
[editline]2nd February 2013[/editline]
(the one I uninstalled along with the picture viewer and video player because they are absolutely terrible)
i know its part o the metro player, i just don't know how to get that particular dialogue box up.
i didn't like it at first but once i got it to work worth network storage, i forgave it.
I'm not sure why anyone would want to get rid of the metro theme, it's beautiful (par start screen)
Aero is all shiny and gummy and I hate it

I agree completely, the worst bit of Aero was the gummy inflated border around your profile pic on the start menu, it was revolting.
i liked how aero looked in windows 8 betas
though i don't like looking at windows 7 now
Metro is nice and simple. I love how it takes 2 clicks to open 4x the amount of apps you could in the classic Start Menu.
Fuck charms on the desktop though.
I've been using Win8 for about a month now. Other than randomly crashing sometimes when I haven't been on it for a couple of hours, I'm loving it. Though coming from WinXP, I'd probably say the same if I switched to Win7 even.
I don't like the start menu stuff (not that it's bad) but luckily you are not forced to use it and I use ClassicShell.
After using Windows 8 let's say... it doesn't suit me.
I'm a man who loves old Vista look (not the core of it). So I patched UXTHEME. Nice to see old pal Aero back.
Then Metro start screen did not follow my scheme of mouse pointing. As I was using 8 on only 1 computer, and 7 on the others, I didn't bother. Start Menu back!
But then, I don't care about startup speed(got used to it), Ribbon is... awkward for me, so I looked back at 7. Yes I am a weird man.

I was able to get it to popup using the fn+SoundDown/Up keys on my laptop. but besides that I haven't a clue.

Totally fine on my RT tab, but that's because it's a touchscreen device. They serve literally no practical purpose on a desktop. They won't change it though and I'm sure we both know it.

I just use it to shut down/sleep.

They could at least put those options in the menu under your username.
Ok I've bitched about this in three other threads and I'm getting impatient and no answers.

How do I get rid of this? I'm trying to add this music folder to my itunes library but this fucking thing is in my way.
is there a file in that folder that's screwing up importing
knowing itunes if one file can't be accessed the entire folder will fail
It's a music folder. I have it organized Music -> Artist -> Album -> Song. It's pretty much every song in there doing it.
You could try taking the ownership of all the files under the directory.
icacls X:\musicdir\*.* /grant username:F
takeown /f X:\musicdir\*.*

You could download Oblytile
Sorry the main website is down so a forum link will have to do.
All you have to do is create a Square shutdown tile and a .bat file and badabing.

Anyone?
I'm not using a Laptop and my keyboard is the standard shitty dell thing. I have no idea what the hotkeys are for media controls and I don't want to have to install third-party software.
Curiously, a small version of the player shows up when you use one of the media control keys on a physical keyboard, but it quickly disappears. So the mini player exists—but you can't make it a persistent part of the Windows 8 experience
Looks like you've got to use the keys.
[editline]3rd February 2013[/editline]
Surely it's got volume keys on it...

I tried to do that, but I can't seem to delete a file. I've tried using the take ownership thing, but I can't seem to do anything about it.

I guessed I would have to use the keys but my keyboard doesn't have media keys. Is there any other workaround?

Of any sort for that matter.

It might work.
Has anyone had this "Unfortunately, based on the information you provided during the registration process you are not eligible for the upgrade offer" problem? Even though I enter in all my details and product key correctly as well as meet the eligibility requirements, it just keeps saying I'm ineligible. I tried using IE as well with no success.
God damn it.
I'm using OpenOffice 3.4.1, and when I'm making formulas, the 'cdot' sign is out of place, far too much to the left. Does anyone else have this problem with win 8?
