I'm using OpenOffice 3.4.1, and when I'm making formulas, the 'cdot' sign is out of place, far too much to the left. Does anyone else have this problem with win 8?
This isn't always a fix, but try libreoffice instead.
What is the exact difference? Do you use it? Is it as good with formulas as OO?

I'm not certain it solves your problem exactly, but I encountered a number of flaws in OO which LO actually fixed. I think libreoffice is under better management and is being pushed in a better direction; in every other aspect it is the same though.

Also, I use Libreoffice often, but only for text documents and spreadsheets. For most equation editing I use LaTeX so your mileage may vary.
You could download Oblytile
Sorry the main website is down so a forum link will have to do.
All you have to do is create a Square shutdown tile and a .bat file and badabing.
pshhh i just hit the physical power button anyway, it initiates the same shutdown sequence.
Oblytile is handy anyway, regardless of your choice of shutdown message.
Personally I prefer to have my plugboard wall mounted so I can do a handstand and procede meditate a boner to flick the switch.
I hard reset the machine more often tbh, but it's usually only when it starts lagging like shit or outright freezes.
A got a few questions...
1. How do I fix this?
[IMG_thumb]http://i.imgur.com/f2txJB5.jpg[/IMG_thumb]
The icons won't align to the right all the way. :\
2. How do I fix the window text color in Win8 with a dark theme?
[IMG_thumb]http://i.imgur.com/kAYVwEK.png[/IMG_thumb]
I can't even read that.
3. Are there any good Windows 8 theme or tweaks out there? I haven't been keeping up on them for the past 3 or so months.
can't fix that first one, really. for the second, change your colors in the control panel under personalization
can't fix that first one, really. for the second, change your colors in the control panel under personalization
Well that sucks. One would think there's a fix since it hasn't always been like that.
Also... I like my black theme. Can I not just change the color of the title bar or whatever?
Well, that zombie seems to be trapped in your computer. Perhaps you should help him out?

Yea, in the "Window Color and Appearance" select click Advanced Appearance Settings and then customize it to your liking.

(Yea I know the picture is of Win7 but it didn't change for Win8)
Finally managed to get it installed.
This is fucking weird. (and fast)
If you have an open mind, Windows 8 is an improvement. I'm not the biggest fan of the start screen, but the other improvements are nice (and I do use the start screen from time to time)
Biggest flaw as of right now is that you no longer have all the 'Devices and Printers' and 'Control Panel' links right there, and you have to enter the control panel to find them.

Sleep mode doesn't work on my computer (didn't even with windows 7) but when I shut down Windows 8 it puts it in sleep mode; handy.
So I decided getting win8 wasnt such a bad idea, but I just heard the cheap upgrade offer ended. Is there any way to still get it cheap or do I have to wait for a sale or something?

Unrelated but man, I forgot that the default vista wallpaper was fucking ugly.
The details tab in the task manager is basically what the old task manager was, but I prefer the new grouped processes tab.
dude I don't know what you're doing because I have UAC enabled and I don't have everything running in administrator mode, and steam launches just fine by itself
still, control panel -> user accounts -> user account control settings
useful tip
i love the new task manager, but i hate that a) the density is lower, like gmail's low density mode, and b) they don't show processes by their real name anymore

a friend had an code he didn't use
$15 for windows 8
~swag~
details tab, yo
Xbox SmartGlass is a bit useless, don't you think? I mean, I can't find use to it.
I ended up getting Windows 8 free. Bought it for full price, then saw that I could get it for $15, so called and asked if I could be refunded the full price and buy it again, they said don't bother and refunded it all and gave me a new key.

Yes indeed. Still a neat thing, though.
I just got Windows 8 for $15. Not bad, Microsoft.
that effect breaks itunes :c
What could cause Local Security Authority Process (3) to use 918 MB of ram?
that just puts uac in silent mode, doesnt actually disable it though :/
and im not doing anything, steam simply doesnt load when i open windows even tho its in the list, and when i run it i have to do it in admin mode or it says im not the owner of the folder or w/e
USC is fine. something is borked with your installation.
oddly enough now that i managed to make my account full admin it's working

You have to use Disk Cleanup

Also tune up your Cleartype
