Who said anything about only Metro? You can still use Sai, inkscape, GIMP, Painter etc.
Nope, I've read about people saying painter, gimp, photoshop, paint tool sai, and pretty much most other x86 apps don't have pressure sensitivity support. And that it's cause microsoft is forcing their custom api to work only with metro for now.
I just got a Kernel Security check failure. What does that mean? I never had that before.
My new pc parts are arriving tomorrow and I was wondering what OS to put on it. I already have my dreamspark win8 used on laptop, same with win7. Only have a windows 7 home premium key unused from my laptop and I pretty much need pro version. Turns out I have another win8 key free from dreamspark because the one used on my laptop was used before the official release. Kinda lucky :D

was that update supposed to make my windows bar at the bottom grey and remove my wallpaper
was that update supposed to make my windows bar at the bottom grey and remove my wallpaper
yes system32 should also have been deleted, along with all user data. If not, something went wrong
After that large update I'am getting a Schannel error in the event viewer, Microsoft what did you break now?
I just got a Kernel Security check failure. What does that mean? I never had that before.
It was bitdefenders fault, Installed now BullGuard works like a charm.
Ugh, real world battery life is miserable for the surface pro. I'm getting like 3 hours of inking and metro apps max. I'm basically stuck to a charger all day. Good enough to get through classes but if I forget to charge it I'm fucked. Hopefully that extended battery will come out soon. Other than that I love this thing. If they made the RT with a pressure sensitive pen I would have bought it in a heartbeat. I find myself using metro apps more than anything else.
ugh with how much they're touting the pen of the pro I'm astonished they didn't make it for the regular surface. seems like it'd be a neat thing even if only used for fresh paint or something IDK
So I 'upgraded' yesterday from Win7 after I'd been getting a lot of .NET related problems, had the day to get around it and I do like it, I'm using start8 because, why not, start-up is noticeably faster, it's a little sleeker, I'm liking the new shortcuts, the UI formerly known as Metro is pretty but fairly useless unless you just want a pretty experience, slows things down for desktop use, but the mail and weather applications can be useful, I doubt I'll use Metro other than a few apps or for shortcuts though. What I don't like are the idle window's white colour and the taskbar icon's white colour, anyone know if I can change this?

By the way, this is a question that's been on my mind for a long time, but I can't find a General Windows thread... I got Windows 7 and now I got Windows 8. Can I just... install them over my PC? It currently runs Vista. Will I lose all my files by doing that?
wait do you want 7 or 8
wait do you want 7 or 8
7. But if 7 can't do that, 8 is fine. I haven't installed 7 because I don't know if it'll erase my files.
upgrade to seven if you want 8, upgrade to 8 from seven
upgrade to seven if you want 8, upgrade to 8 from seven
Ok, but will it overwrite my files?
Yeah, my metro apps wouldn't start at all when I upgraded. I don't really use them, but it still bugged me, so I clean installed.

I'm gonna upgrade to Windows 7, not 8. After looking over the options, I really prefer 7. Now, will that raise any problems? What is this windows.old thing?
You can delete windows.old after 7 has installed.
I just really want to know if upgrading will delete my current files. I only want to upgrade my system, not erase every drive, since I have collected quite the number of personal files and I do not possess an external HD.
upgrade will work just fine lol
upgrade will work just fine lol
Is that a yes or no? I need to be sure.
if you are really that worried, move everything important to everywhere except one drive unplug all drives except that one
how do I show all the apps in the start menu using the touchscreen? cant seem to do it
how do I show all the apps in the start menu using the touchscreen? cant seem to do it
Swipe up from the bottom and tap the all apps button.
How do I update my music folder so that it shows the album art for new albums? I had a lot of bad artwork and I changed a lot of it but Windows still shows the same artwork in the folder preview? How do I fix that.
