Just installed Windows 8 as a dual boot OS, it's actually pretty nice :v:
I don't know. There must be some reason that people use Windows Server though.
Active Directory.
They want to make CLI work better in W8 Server though. They finally gave up on trying to make a UI for everything and the new direction is to copy Linux and provide CLI tools that work well, and then write GUIs on top of those rather than the other way around.
Using the IE10 metro app and so far it is impressive, I love the full screen view.
I just hope Google is gonna release something like this for chrome because right now this is awesome

They will, Mozilla already confirmed they are making a Metro Firefox, so I assume Chrome and Opera will follow suite.
So it appears that links sent through the Messaging app go through Windows Live's SmartScreen thing.
Not sure how I feel about this. I mean yeah keeping regular people safe but, it's not like you can disguise a link as another link in MSN.

I've noticed that too and quite frankly I wish there was a fucking option.
Also, I've noticed that in many windows 8 previews they've featured the 2nd windows logo (the one from XP era), it gives me a hint that the official windows logo will be the flags and windows8 will carry the metro style one seeing as 3 versions of windows don't utilize metro.
I could be wrong though

bumping this problem, what can I do?
What happened to Windows Classic mode for themes?

Fun fact. WOA doesn't support AD so that's a -1 for for businesses with people on the go.

Windows Classic is gone.
What happened to Windows Classic mode for themes?
There's no point in classic with the hiding of the start button, also seeing as it is old and the excuse of "I HAVEN'T GOT USED TO THE NEW UI" is fucking old and unusable. Everyone's adapted since windows95/98/ME/2000 time to move on
[editline]4th March 2012[/editline]
And even if you used it for other purposes, there's no point in it anymore

I still use Windows classic on my laptop just because it's fast and takes up the least amount of screen.
Plus I like retro

Don't you lose out on stuff like aero peek and such? And if you have a half-way decent computer, you'll see no performance difference.

How does it take up the least amount of screen?
I know I'm probably way early, but are there any upcoming laptops that will be utilizing windows 8? I would love to have one of those things on the previous page that can act like a laptop and a tablet.
I doubt there'll even be a "Desktop" mode in Windows 9. I think they're gonna phase it out.

You're delusional.
To me, Windows 8 seems like they've just stuck a tablet GUI on top of a desktop OS like early versions of Windows on top of MS-DOS. The simplicity of some metro apps goes a little too far in my opinion, as it's hard to navigate through them at times, like the messenger app is slightly confusing at times.

Is there really one one size that the metro snaps at? Like if it were 10% more I'd actually be able to read this.. Anyone tried working out how to make it wider?
The one-size Metro snapping is really, really weird I think. It would be kind of cool if there was like a splitter bar there or something so you could size it to your liking.
That's the only size.
That's the only size.
So there's no DLL we can patch, registry hacks, resources we can hex edit, replace, etc to edit this?
On a random note, I've noticed that Windows Explorer still doesn't respect the "Show translucent selection rectangle" option (Computer properties -> Advanced System Settings -> Advanced tab -> first Settings button).
Everyone's adapted since windows95/98/ME/2000 time to move on
They really haven't, someone came into the store I work at today and returned a printer because it didn't work with his Windows 95 computer :/

That's because that's a left over option.
That's because that's a left over option.
Fair enough.
So what ever happened to being able to play Xbox games on our PCs? Did that fall through?
[editline]4th March 2012[/editline]
As for Metro, I might feel better about it once it gets more apps I'll actually use on it.

I hope they make a Chrome Frame like someone mentioned that would make Metro use Chrome rather than IE. I don't want to offend anyone saying this, but I don't trust the IE team to make a secure browser at the moment, and Google has been showing their strengths at various hacking contests and in real-life stats.
EDIT: Panda, what's Woah!1! that doesn't work with AD?

Metro IE doesn't support extensions, so no.
IS the customer review stable enough to keep as main os?

I'm sure Google will make a Metro Chrome. Eventually.
