All Microsoft needs to add is a dialog to the installer, asking "Are you installing Windows 8 on a touch-enabled device?" and if the answer is checked-off as no, then it should give the user the traditional desktop, with optional Metro.
They normally auto detect it by default.
After using Win8 I think I'm going to get it for my Tablet PC and leave windows7 on my gaming rig.. I really am not digging the whole Metro UI.. Works well with my Tablet Pc though.

Huh, I started ImgBurn and it showed this as my current OS (Using consumer preview) I 07:21:32 Microsoft Windows 8 Media Center Edition (6.2, Build 8250)

What happened to all those concept screens of desktop programs in Metro style, like that one IRC client? THATS how metro on desktop should have looked. I don't care what anybody says about Win8 being more user friendly - it's not. It took me ages to figure out there's a menu on the right side of the screen that appears when you drag your mouse near the side, or where the shut down button was. Why have they removed visual cues from everything? Also, why the fuck aren't there any customisation options to disable this crap? Microsoft used to have a ton of options for people who didn't like the new changes in every past version of Windows. Why would they think trying to force people onto this new design was a good idea?
Why has Ms been silent since the CP release? I mean can't someone from MS comment on any of the praise and criticism W8 has gotten? MS, MS!!!!!
Why has Ms been silent since the CP release? I mean can't someone from MS comment on any of the praise and criticism W8 has gotten? MS, MS!!!!!
They haven't, they just probably won't address the criticism.
I've lost all hope for changes after Betas. Windows 7 was basically identical from the Beta. I don't understand why the CP is so unstable. I've experienced more bluescreens in a week on my laptop and desktop than I ever did in the Vista or 7 Betas/Releases. It's crazy.
I did a shit job at force installing my touchpad drivers apparently. I get a BSOD when I try to open the mouse settings.

Installed CP just fine, then played around with it for a while. Friend decided to pull the powerplug. restarted, WHOLE INSTALLATION BROKEN
I did a shit job at force installing my touchpad drivers apparently. I get a BSOD when I try to open the mouse settings.
The built in drivers in Windows 8 don't work?
Since I installed drivers for my gpu, I get a bluescreen once in a while.
Since I installed drivers for my gpu, I get a bluescreen once in a while.
Driver support sucks in general for my GTS450, Windows AND Linux alike.
I haven't gotten a single BSOD, my computer runs fine, 2x faster than windows 7 and I am enjoying metro with a keyboard and mouse.
Driver support sucks in general for my GTS450, Windows AND Linux alike.
The thing is that I can't play videos now. Annoying as fuck. Not really Windows 8's fault, though.
the only thing I dont like is when I open a link someone sends me in msn(yes I still use it), it opens it in the metro internet explorer, and not in firefox, which I have set to be my standard browser. worst thing is if I try to see the actual page and it's not because of a song I cant even find the tab it's opened in in metro IE.
Check the default programs control panel to see if Firefox has all defaults.
The thing is that I can't play videos now. Annoying as fuck. Not really Windows 8's fault, though.
I know what you mean. If I try to use any x264 encoding apps that use CUDA, the encoder crashes, regardless of the app. It worked fine in Windows 7, so I'm convinced it's a Windows 8 driver doing this to me.
Just got the Consumer Preview installed. I actually like the fact that the start menu is gone, because it only took space while everyone moves his mouse in the corner. Also, I think Metro has really been improved since Dev preview. Looks much nicer now. Plus you can easly quit Metro apps now.
I now use my win key :v:
Wow, Stardock's Start_8 tool needs to be integrated with Windows 8 natively. I sure hope I can slipstream it to the disc, if Microsoft doesn't do something similar first. It makes Windows 8 so much more consistent.
does anyone have audio glitches out the wazoo in windows 8?
does anyone have audio glitches out the wazoo in windows 8?
Sound's fine here.
my audio is tearing like pretty often and i've basically reverted to cds because of it :<
The only issues I get with Windows 8 beta on my laptop, is when I resume from Sleep, the wireless adapter wont connect to my wireless network unless I either: A. Wait about a minute for the adapter to automatically fix itself. or B. Manually disable and re-enable the adapter manually or through the Network Diagnostics Wizard. And a problem I have experienced on both Desktops and my Laptop is that spontaniously, about 2 times on each machine, the sound will cut off with no explanation. The device drivers will report functioning just fine, but Skype and other applications all report that the audio playback device is being used by something, and doing system restarts does not fix it, so the only way I have fixed it is uninstalling the audio drivers, and reinstalling them, and restarting the computer.
does anyone have audio glitches out the wazoo in windows 8?
My sound drivers decided to fuck themselves over. They were installed, but weren't. Apparently, installing the Windows 7 drivers from the tablet manufacturer fixed it.
I'm only getting minor sound issues. Steam is incredibly loud compared to other things often, and other times it just makes everything but steam incredibly quiet. [editline]9th March 2012[/editline] And I only control my volume by a knob on my speakers, I don't do the in-windows settings.
It looks very nice and useful, but I probably will not be buying it because I don't get to use my computer enough nowadays as so as it is.
On my Windows 7 disc, I slipstreamed all available driverpacks to the DVD. I wonder if this works with Windows 8, using Windows 7 drivers... seeing as Windows 8 can still use Vista drivers just fine. So it might be possible. 7 can still use XP drivers for certain things, when no vista/7 drivers exist.
