uhh you do know that the apt package is only present in debian based distributions right?
Linux is way harder to maintain than windows, exept if you use a spoonfeed distribution like ubuntu. Just take a look at Arch(thats what most linux users use here).
Even Arch is fairly low maintenance once you get it up and running, though. It's rare that there's updates that require any work to be done, and when there is, it's usually just a matter of checking the wiki, editing 2 config files, and rebooting.
I really shouldn't say good things about Linux in the Windows section should I? :v:
Just going off topic from the IE mass war, I have been having this odd problem that when I ALT+TAB from world at war or some games, explorer fucks up in a way where it is not usable unless I shut down the computer.
It basically goes black, shows the start button, the blue line for metro snap but the 2nd screen is perfectly fine.. I can't find a clear fix on it yet so if anyone could tell me it'd be much a relief.
Since there's no program to edit the msstyles in 8 I've started working on something where users can find properties and edit it manually via hex editing.
Linux hates people who like to fiddle and don't know what the fuck they are doing.
Windows is slightly more forgiving in that department.
Again, I am talking about maintenance, not hand editing configuration files in /etc, hand compiling software in /usr/bin, hand rewritting your grub.cfg, then rebooting and wondering why everything broke. I mean things like keeping the machine up to date (on Windows I have 900 different updaters to run)
A lot of people come up with arguments about how Linux is hard, and then begin to point out things you literally cannot do in Windows (like compiling your own kernel) or that you never need to do at all if you're not a power user (compiling software from source). No one is saying that everything in either Windows or Linux is easy.
uhh you do know that the apt package is only present in debian based distributions right?
Erm, yes. You know there are equivalents in pretty much every single other distribution, right? Even Arch has a source package tool IIRC.
Linux is way harder to maintain than windows, exept if you use a spoonfeed distribution like ubuntu. Just take a look at Arch(thats what most linux users use here).
Which kind of distributions did you think I was talking about exactly? Of course I meant the ones meant for the average end user like Ubuntu and not ones meant for intermediate and advanced users like Arch.
Even then, your argument is completely silly and invalid. People here use Arch by choice, they give up easier maintenance so they can have other things Arch offers.
Maybe you do not understand much about Linux, so sorry if I seemed patronizing, but I don't see how your points apply.
EDIT: This is getting off topic.
Imo Windows 8's metro is an incredibly bad idea for PC's, the whole interface is extremely clunky with a mouse and keyboard, its as if they expect everyone to run out and buy touch-screen monitors, if anything its just going to encourage more people to seek out other operating systems, sure, metro is eye pleasing and no doubt nice to use on a touch device, but on PC's that are mostly used with a keyboard and mouse it's counter-productive, frustrating to use and makes some of the more power user features take more effort to find/reach.
I've tried windows 8 a couple of times and it probably does do things better in the background and stuff but I just can't get used to the metro interface, it just wreaks of tablet and using the mouse and keyboard feels plain wrong for me, if it's the future Windows is going then as much as I don't particularly want to as I'm so accustomed to the "classic" GUI, I'll probably start looking into Linux more, the sole reason I've refrained from Linux so far is because of the bad game support but I heard wine? does a pretty good job of it now, Linux sounds so much more enticing at this point in time considering the amount of choice your given with distro's and the fact that your not forced to use an interface you dont like just to stay current with operating system technology.
Like IE's pinned sites on the desktop, the work on the Start screen as well. Pretty useful in my opinion:

Would have been better if they showed a preview of the site when pinned to the Start screen.
Stardock has released a update for Start8.
The new changes:
I received an email today from Steven Sinofsky in which he confirmed that HP Touchpad & other ARM based tablets currently available will not be able to have WOA W8 ported / installed.
So you can't even install 8 on pre-existing ARM tablets apparently. :v:
windows 8 does like quite good
what do all of you think of it?
windows 8 does like quite good

I find good, and while there's a lot of changes, it stills feels familiar in many ways.
I can't wait until it's officially released, and the "secure bootloader" bullshit gets patched.
I can't wait until it's officially released, and the "secure bootloader" bullshit gets patched.
The way they're starting off I wouldn't be surprised if it just ended up getting continuously unpatched through Windows Update.

What API? Spring starts the same day every year...
EDIT: I believe I've completely misunderstood the context, my bad. I thought it was just a metro app.

Is it me or are the AMD/ATI drivers for win8 quite rubbish, and have infact half broken mostof my games
Is it me or are the AMD/ATI drivers for win8 quite rubbish, and have infact half broken mostof my games
That's very likely. Windows 8 is not finished yet, and so the drivers are in the same state. And probably will be, for a while after release of the operating system.
Is it me or are the AMD/ATI drivers for win8 quite rubbish, and have infact half broken mostof my games
Considering the OS isn't even out yet, no, it's highly probable and even expected of a beta OS.
http://www.engadget.com/2012/03/22/shocker-windows-8-will-be-retina-display-friendly/
I'd say this could stimulate a growth in resolution on displays. People asking themselves "Why the fuck does my tablet have this resolution, when my desktop doesn't?". Hopefully.

Use the drivers for 7.
Use the drivers for 7.
Will do that, it's just mixing bad drivers with a dying GPU isn't smart
Sometimes I think the Developer preview was more stable than the Consumer prevew..
Are there any Realtek LAN drivers that work on Windows 8? When I try to install the one for Windows 7 I get an error that they are only for Vista.

Install them with Vista compatibility mode, and try it that way.

This worked. Thanks!

Wait a minute, then what are the default drivers then? I haven't needed to install network drivers since Windows 7. Vista still needs them, my network ports won't work without them.
I got 172,685,610 points in the Pinball game....

Somehow my notebooks network card doesn't work without.
