Can't he also do an upgrade install?
Can't he also do an upgrade install?
...I can?
It moves Users, Program Files and some other folders to C:\Windows.old
Be careful though, Windows likes to delete the contents of Windows.old whenever it feels like it. Happened to me a few times before I could salvage my stuff. Backups are strongly recommended before doing this.

Yeah and break nearly everything.

It only does that if you tell it to in Disk Cleanup.
People complained about slow downs because they were running 5+ year old computers and never bothered to upgrade. When 7 came out, everyone already upgraded to run Vista so they didn't complain about performance issues.
Vista improved so many things that it's not even funny. Wireless support, Memory management, new device driver model, IPv6, complete audio core rewrite; here's a list of new features. While Vista improved many things in Windows XP, I don't think we need to bring up features that were already present in Windows XP SP1 to make it seem better than it was.

Then Ccleaner was the culprit... >_<
so i shoudnt do an upgrade install right?

No.
I like how this shit starts up faster than linux. I can only seem to run Half-Life in software mode which kind of bugged me. But hell, I miss the start button.
No.
I did that, worked fine for me. Unless that's the source form the frequent crashes, but I think that's just Windows itself.

Install updated drivers. I had the same issue with my nVidia card, but grabbing the drivers from their site fixed it.

There's an app called Start8. It installs you a startbutton. Not the original one but at least something. :v:
ok so my window 8 iso is done anything i should know before i go on and install this baby?

I don't really understand why - they changed the look of it all the time (though they did maintain the flag), so can't we just pretend that they made it transparent? Usability wise it's almost the same.

More than likely is, running 8 from 7 upgrade really messes up a lot of things in the OS.
Also it's not good to suggest other people to do it since, because it messes up the OS, they might want to stop using it, but now they can't just drop back to 7, they have to reinstall it all over again.
I am running Windows 8 Consumer Preview from a Windows 7 Ultimate upgrade, and everything went perfectly fine. My laptop even wakes up faster than 7 did.

It's completely arbitrary though, making it transparent and the hit box smaller. For desktop users, especially those with multi monitors, it becomes less easy to hit, and as demonstrated previously it can confuse people as they wouldn't know it was still there, because they took away any visual indication that it is.
Imaging if they did this else where in the system. You come across some tutorial or something and it goes
"You'll need to untick the read-only box in the properties dialog of the file. Then click OK or Apply"
"I don't see the OK or Apply button"

"Oh it's still there, they just made it invisible now."

I think they should make some sorta of desktop gadget that acts as the start menu search like how Android does it
No more need for a start menu that way.
Usability wise it's almost the same.
Except you can see non-transparent things... it's a world of differences for non-technical users.

I get your point, and I'm completely aware of that it could be confusing to new users. Still, I'm running 2 monitors, with a 2000DPI mouse, and I just throw the mouse down in the corner. I can't speak for users with 3 screens or whatever, but it's just a couple of pixels more, and while I can see that the invisibility thing could pose an annoyance, lets not make the problems bigger than it is. And with all due respect, that dialog isn't really a good example, as you can't just throw the mouse down in the corner carelessly and still hit it.

I'm aware of this, but it really seems like computer literate people are complaining about this stuff, and I don't think that it's because they can't figure it out. They just don't like that they changed it, in my opinion.
So I went back to Windows 7 and now I find myself ramming my cursor into the bottom left corner and expecting a giant menu to come up
Guess I got used to it pretty fast.

Erm, the action is the same, you still have to click to bring the menu, I don't see the problem.

Ah yes, the easy excuse for designers who can't accept that their changes are bad.
Ah yes, the easy excuse for designers who can't accept that their changes are bad.
Yeah, but really, it's redundant. I am well aware of that it's bad design in some sense, but at the same time it gives some consistency with the other "hot corners". I'm not excusing them, I just don't see the big problem, as it isn't different usability wise for people that figure it out. Figuring it out is the only problem I see.
The actual hot corner area is like what, 7x7px? While the old start button is like 64x64px (guessing).
The issue is theres no evidence of there even being a hot corner and it's become a pain in the ass to even open the menu with such a small hitzone, Unless you normally use the win key. Then it really doesn't matter.
What should have been done was add the option to remove the start button on touch screen devices as on most of them there is a home button (iPad/pod/phone, Android things-of-sorts) or leave it for those people who are going to be using Win8 on their PC. It's not really that it's hard, it's an inconvenience that gets on peoples nerves.
The metro start menu and all of the metro related junk should have been a tablet/server only thing.
The metro start menu and all of the metro related junk should have been a tablet/server only thing.
If there's any place where it'd be less welcome it would be server. People who run hundreds of servers don't want to bother with that shit, they just need something simple.
so well lets say my window 8 experience wasnt...Too good

What kinda of compatibility settings have you tried? I just ran HL2 and it worked fine, after a moment...
I haven't had a single game issue except with solitaire, but that seems to be a common one.
