No, it's not a PE; it's a fully fledged OS for ARM processors. "Pre-install only" means that you can't buy it separately; it has to be preinstalled on the ARM device you buy.
"Boot from VHD" Definitly going to buy windows 8 Pro.
"Boot from VHD" Definitly going to buy windows 8 Pro.
Hopefully I'll still be in college when it comes out so I can get it free from MSDNAA.
I need all the features available, so Windows 8 Pro for me.
I'm thinking of switching back to 7, windows 8 is good I'm noticing some huge differences in performance from 7 but my programs even with compatibility mode are just fucking up. I won't lose any of my data right? I've installed a lot of new stuff over the win8 testing period I don't want to fuck it up. Oh and I'll probably switch to 8 when they iron out the bugs, it has a nice interface I do want it.
http://windowsteamblog.com/windows/b/bloggingwindows/archive/2012/04/16/announcing-the-windows-8-editions.aspx For anyone who can't be bothered: SKUs: Windows 8, Windows 8 Pro, Windows 8 RT (WOA) (Pre-install only)
Yes, they finally did it. It was very very long overdue. That said, I wonder how long it will take before WOA roms pop up in the wilds of the internet.
Hopefully I'll still be in college when it comes out so I can get it free from MSDNAA.
How does this work? Can people in community colleges get it too :v:?
How does this work? Can people in community colleges get it too :v:?
It depends on your school. I would ask whoever is most likely in charge of that sort of thing at your college and they could probably steer you in the right direction.
Schools pay an annual fee for it, right? If so, you'd probably know if your school was using it. If they are paying for it I don't see why they wouldn't push that information to the students as much as possible :v:
Is the copy really free or some limited use key?
[thumb]http://i.imgur.com/TFZ69.png[/thumb] Go for it?
Is the copy really free or some limited use key?
On MSDNAA? Free. You're allowed 1 key per version/arch.
Is the copy really free or some limited use key?
*And I'm late!.. Real free ( Terms says that you can keep the software after you leave college/school ), and everything works like it would normally.
Is the copy really free or some limited use key?
Your limited to 1 key per account per product. But it really is the full version no strings attached. Your school is paying good money for this so its not like Microsoft is getting zero return.
-snip- Go for it?
Did you make a full backup of your system?
Did you make a full backup of your system?
Nothing to backup, really. All the important stuff I have is on another hard drive, and I installed W7 3 days ago, so it's almost completely empty.
You have to reformat the partition again if your planning on reinstalling Win7 to the old Win8 partition.
Seriously? Fucking hell
So, how does the whole MSDNAA thing work. Are all universities eligible or what?
Seriously? Fucking hell
LIES. I moved everything I wanted to the root of the drive, deleted all the Windows 8 files+folders from a Mint LXDE LiveUSB, and installed 7 just fine. Then I put my files back. Formatting is for dumbshits, really.
I don't want to do all of that but what happens if I put my 7 disc in on windows 8 and it takes me through the personal files savour thing where I get that option to move it over would that work fine?

Why have a program do it for you?
Manually moving files taakes hardly any time at all. What I do will be the same thing w7 instillation will do
So, how does the whole MSDNAA thing work. Are all universities eligible or what?
Pretty much up to your school. You might as well go to the Dreamspark website to see if your eligible. [editline]17th April 2012[/editline]
LIES. I need to retain all my files because of how half my school work and projects are on there, so if it wipes everything I'm fucked.
I need to retain all my files because of how half my school work and projects are on there, so if it wipes everything I'm fucked.
I'm assuming that you have no second drive of any sort?
I'm assuming that you have no second drive of any sort?
Bingo.
Why do Metro apps take so long to start up?
Why do Metro apps take so long to start up?
I'm wondering this too, sometimes they refuse to close.
Seriously? Fucking hell
Upgrade to a lower version? Not even if you're on a beta.
