Seems that Windows To Go is for Enterprise only unfortunately.
Seems that Windows To Go is for Enterprise only unfortunately.
Doesn't matter, I'm still getting my hands on it. Even if I have to hold up a shipment truck at gunpoint.
http://www.engadget.com/2012/04/18/touchpad-free-adds-windows-8-gestures-to-its-wp7-app/ For all you with both a WP7 device and Windows 8. Haven't tried it yet, but I'm gonna install it. [editline]19th April 2012[/editline] I just installed and tried it, and while it's pretty cool and such, it needs some work.
I propbably would install, but i have rediculously low space on my only HDD. I got about 6-9 gigs of space left, i wanna get a new one, 90 gigs of HDD is not enough...
For some reason svhost is taking all the CPU power in Consumer Preview on my Laptop, I have no idea why.
For some reason svhost is taking all the CPU power in Consumer Preview on my Laptop, I have no idea why.
Seems it's the event log and it's trying to display a pop-up basically saying Windows is missing a debugger, And I think there is just generally problems with the drivers so I suggest not installing this on a HP nc 8430 unless you want Service host randomly taking your CPU usage.

And guess what happened right after the warranty was up? THEY DIED. My Gateway MT6728 might be an under-powered laptop with shit graphics, but it handles internet, watching movies, and even plays emulators up to PS1, N64, and NDS just fine, so I can't complain.

Is this actually in the preview version or is it not being used? Because it looks terrible and it was designed by the same woman who made the new logo

Would it be a good idea to install Windows 8 on a new PC build? Since I'd rather contribute £70 to a better graphics card than purchase Windows 7.
Running Windows 8 on mine, all is nice, just Metro takes a bit to get used to. To make the transition better, you could install Start 8, which will bring the start menu back. Then you could add shut down/restart/whatever buttons: Go to C:\Users\%username%\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs, add a new shortcut: Shut down: shutdown.exe -s -t 00 Restart: shutdown.exe -r -t 00 Hibernate: rundll32.exe PowrProf.dll,SetSuspendState Sleep: rundll32.exe powrprof.dll,SetSuspendState 0,1,0 Though I am missing icons for them. (It is really fucking stupid that I had to GOOGLE how to shut down the first time)

Why does my computer freeze while running Speccy? Also happened while watching a flash video.
Why does my computer freeze while running Speccy? Also happened while watching a flash video.
For Flash I'm not sure, but I've had 8 freeze with any system information tool like Speccy. It also happened in the DP.
Other than getting some performance, I absolutely hate the metro style of Windows 8, not everyone's computer is a tablet, MicroSoft. :\

It was more like Neat, Good, Better, Shit, Best, Meh, Good

For the last fucking time Windows 95 was a good OS, it laid down the foundations of the next generations with the startbutton and taskbar. Without it we'd probably get it later/still have a shitter version of Windows 3.1 program manager.
Am I the only one who actually liked Windows ME? It had a kick ass intro video, at least:
That video looked like it was made for people who barely knew what a computer was.

That video looked like it was made for people who barely knew what a computer was.
So are you saying they did their job well or what? The whole point of marketing is to make this shit known to people who have no clue about it, and make them feel like they need it even if they don't.. no one expects the content to make much sense when analyzed further than that.
That video looked like it was made for people who barely knew what a computer was.
Because 12 years ago, that probably wasn't too far off from reality. Multimedia functionality on a computer and the internet was still a pretty new thing for many people. We take A LOT of that for granted now. And of course its marketing so its going to be cheesy as shit. If you already knew a ton about computers, you wouldn't give a damn about the video.
