MS unfortunately won't be revamping the desktop UI anytime soon since they think people will prefer Metro over it.
They just revamped the UI, and I personally don't hold a grudge against Aero, really. I'm not saying that it isn't a pretty cool theme, simply that it isn't that big of a problem. [editline]27th April 2012[/editline]
I think it will sell, on phones and tablets anyway, people seem to like things dumbed down.
In my opinion, it isn't really dumped down. You won't be doing "real" work on the Metro side of things, but you aren't intended to either way. It's a replacement for the start menu, not access to every setting and what not within a click's reach. It's not like the old start menu was less "dumped down".
for some reason I want the aero shit to look something like this [t]http://fc09.deviantart.net/fs71/i/2012/116/9/9/visual_style_concept_win7_by_nailik0110-d4xmmff.png[/t]
Oh, so that's Windows 9? :v: [editline]27th April 2012[/editline]
late, but its a very nice idea for a desktop interface. I was actually looking for that image couldn't find it though [editline]27th April 2012[/editline] maybe it was a different one but it got those solid colors

There's also this: http://www.theverge.com/2012/2/25/2823647/windows-8-desktop-ui-concepts
I don't think I got a clear answer on this; Is it worth it to wait for a couple months in college to by a Win8 laptop? Or is it ok to buy a Win7 one and upgrade? Also, does anyone have any ideas on how Skydrive will be integrated into Win8? I just signed up for an account and love it, but will they continue support or phase it out for another try?
The best way to decide is to try it out via dual boot or something, if you like 8 then maybe you should get it, otherwise stick with 7.

I've been using Win8 since the beta and I'm not sure if it's just the way I'm set up, but I've had hardly any problems at all. I had one app issue where solitaire refused to run but reinstalling it fixed it, no issues with it now. One App issue, No program issues, No compatibility issues. Only real problem I've had was two Bsods back to back, but one of my sata power connectors was failing, which I fixed. That's it. One thing I'd like to see however is maybe a windows key+Boss key combo that brings up the shutdown/restart/sleep options at the very least, if Ms decides "Easy shutdown options are a waste of time coding and adding." But pretty and easy to navigate.
To me it seems like a brilliant interface for an ebook reader.

I hate all the flat, boring looking shit. Calling it "modern" is bullshit, it's just making Windows look dumbed-down. Aero is sexy in Win 8 Dev preview. Deal with it.
Aero makes sense for the name. Windows. Glass.

The design philosophy of content over chrome is ingenious and, since seeing and using metro, old, bulky, chrome and plastic looking stuff just looks busy and ugly. With a high resolution, just seeing fucking thousands of tiles makes it really hard to organize them well. There should be some way of scaling it without affecting the resolution.

Steam wallet needs to be aligned to where the inbox is, part from that it looks neato
http://forums.steampowered.com/forums/showthread.php?t=2618944
We need a Too Artistic Rating. That looks sexy as hell.
I really hope they fix all the dual screening stuff. I want to be able to use metro stuff on both screens at a time and using all the corner shortcuts while DSing is frustrating as fuck.
I wonder if Valve would consider making a Metro version of steam.
I wonder if Valve would consider making a Metro version of steam.
I think Gabe addressed his concerns for windows 8 or something, I don't know. While I think this would be cool, I don't think there is too much touch friendly games on steam for it to work. Besides, most are gonna either use XBL or the windows store alone so

If Windows would design something that looks like GNOME 2 / KDE desktop environment and then implement it into Windows 8, then I'd never remove it. But yeah, these are just dreams on windows...without any tweaks. *barfs*
sometimes if I'm using the music app, the music volume lowers a bit if I'm going back to desk, sometimes it doesn't. Is there a specific reason for that?
