We're talking about a quasi monopoly here. They'll still make money off every new PC ever made from the point of Windows 8's release and they'll still make plenty of money if they price Windows at the same price they would've before. I would've agreed with you were we not talking about Microsoft and Windows here (and a particularly small amount of money)
Of course they're still going to make profit, but it's not like it's going to be Windows 7 Pro $100, Windows 8 Pro $100 + $50 Media Pack. If they did that, they're completely fucking stupid.
Not to mention MS isn't as bad now as they used to be. Not saying they're great or anything, but they aren't as bad as say the 90's or 00's.

It could turn out that that won't happen but it does still appear that way. Granted they're not as bad as before, they have matured a little. I mean, they did buy Skype for hardly any reason at all..
Ballmer: Welp, we bought Skype today.
Other employee: Why? What have you got planned for it?
Ballmer: I dunno, seemed like a good idea at the time...
EDIT: Ballmer then...

Might want to replace Gates with Ballmer. And they didn't buy Skype for hardly any reason at all.

I never said that, right now they're aiming for a price in the single digits.

Then for what reason? I couldn't find any.
K-lite Mega Codec pack x64 master race here.
To the subject: I think its retarded that Ms would remove DVD playback functionality just to make a package they can charge for... And don't hand me that "licensing" bullshit, Microsoft is pulling another M$ move again. They're just coating it over with a bunch of logical sounding shit just to do this.
It "Makes sense", It doesn't "Just Work"
EDIT: Read my later posts to understand why I said this before just blindly rating me "dumb" please.
Are you completely oblivious to the lawsuit Microsoft is embroiled in with Motorola regarding the H.264 codec? They thought Motorola was allowing it's use freely due to how vast a portion of Internet video uses it; then Moto does a U-turn and sues.
At the end of the day, Win8 with media playback is probably going to cost the same as Windows has usually.

Going back to windows 7, cannot be fucked with windows 8 anymore
Then for what reason? I couldn't find any.
Because Skype makes money and money is good.
I restored all my shit and then I find out that windows did infact move all my stuff to a new windows.old when internet forums said formatting would be the best solution.
My rage
I chose to keep nothing at the setup and it moves half my disk to windows.old as well.
Me >_> Microsoft

Oh well, good thing is that I don't have to install all my games again just Tribes Ascend because I cleared out everything in windows.old's program files and I'll be cleaning out my downloads folder so
my hard drive was 400gb/931gb (win8) and now it is 488gb/931gb which to me is pretty good
[editline]6th May 2012[/editline]
Now it's 530/931
Because Skype makes money and money is good.
Well, if you think about it money =/= good, money = necessary. But that's an entirely different debate.
Effort is good however, which for some reason yesterday evaded me, so here's what I found about Ms and Skype.

And what all of those blogs don't mention is the fact that Skype is probably the most complicated piece of encryption technology on most people's computers, having those engineers in your company is a huge bonus.

What? Where are you taking this from?
Windows 8 OS is no longer a computer, it's some sort of big fancy mobile phone with tons of useless apps.
I'm staying with W7 for next few years. Hopefully Microsoft will reconsidering from making unnecessary major changes in the end product.

I had no idea it was that big of a deal, shows how little some people can actually know about these things. Any idea why they'd make it so complex in the first place?
I know I said I wasn't going to go over VS11 anymore but due to previous discussions about its UI I wanted to see your opinion on some further changes UI wise.

That pretty much resolves all outstanding issues I had with the UI.

THAT LOOKS FANTASTIC
I don't see why they had to move the solution explorer bar to the right, that's going to upset muscle memory. Oh, and the tabs to the right. Are they doing the Ubuntu/Mac thing where they're putting all the stuff at one corner, except doing it wrong as they didn't move the menu text?

Luckily you can still dock it to whatever side you want. It does seem arbitrary though.

Ah, I like docking.
I just noticed that it has a search bar on the window border itself. I know this is kind of common place with Ribbon, Chrome and Firefox all now putting their shit in the bar, but is there a way to turn it off? It's just the visual that really annoys me.
Oh, another thing is: Do I have to press alt and then captial 'f' to open the file menu?

Controls in the titlebar save vertical space. As for moving it I don't know.
You open the File menu the same way you always do, it hasn't changed. You can hit Alt+F or click it, it's the same as previous Visual Studios.
The changes in VS11 RC are wonderful. VS is really the best IDE out there.

That's default in the C# preset since... I dunno, Visual Studio 2005? As far as I know, the C++ preset still has it on the left side. You get asked what preset (layout + keybindings) you want when you start Visual Studio for the first time.
What? Where are you taking this from?
I read a PDF about the implications of letting staff use Skype on a corporate network half a year ago or so, not only are the skype calls themselves encrypted (and routed through an entirely peer to peer network using quite a few weird techniques to get around firewalls etc since login is the only part which is centralised). The skype executable its self is encrypted, and decrypts its self to run.
The skype executable its self is encrypted, and decrypts its self to run.
But that's not impressive at all. No one will covet an engineer because they are capable of basic encryption tasks.
EDIT: You might as well rate yourself dumb for knowing nothing about encryption.
New IE10 about screen. It shows what looks like a refined aero window.
