I'll give it another 2 OS versions before they get bored with metro and ditch it.
The Release Preview build is 8400! Windows 8 Release Preview or Release Candidate is compiled. Prepped for a Early June launch, Windows 8 RC brings a BIG change to the UI. No more Aero has you heard, and a new Task Manager. So will you be upgrading from Windows 8 CP (Build 8250) to Windows 8 RC (Build 8400)??
I might, I might not. Unless the upgrade is easy.
I went from Windows 7 Ultimate > Windows 8 Consumer Preview. If it expects me to do a full reinstall just to upgrade to the Release Preview, then Microsoft can kiss my black ass.

So a little longer than Aero?
So a little longer than Aero?
Aero was in two OSs Vista and 7, so it'd be the same.

"Another two OS versions" - It might just be me not being English, but I understand this as "this one plus two".

Oh. I didn't count "this" because it hasn't released yet, I see what you mean now.
So a little longer than Aero?
A little, surely they are slightly more consistent by now?

Microsoft consistent? Bwahahaha, that's the most ridiculous thing I've read all day. Keep dreaming, little boy, keep dreaming.

Yeah, until we see the XP, Vista, and 7 icons disappear from Shell32.dll, I wouldn't count on it.

Who cares about them, honestly? They're not being actively used on everything.
I think a solid taskbar would look odd though. The current transparent one is subtle and works with the wallpaper. Despite the inconsistency I think I'd prefer it like that than solid.
And to be honest OS X's dock is transparent and has opaque window frames, and it looks alright.
But in OSX it's semi-transparent. It looks good because it's a dark grey and matches the rest of OSX. A multiple-color "dock" that is almost completely transparent makes no sense.
I like it too. I don't really like Aero that much. Too many glows, gradients, shadows, and translucencies all over the place. Windows 8 looks nice and clean, minimal and modern.
I love minimalism as much as the next guy, but this just taken too far. AmigaOS looked better than this shit.
Win9x era icons are really only used in system32 probably because microsoft couldn't care less about the icons down there.
The ribbon however, like your office era icons or not needs to go.

AERO LIVES!!! :D

While a few of these visual changes are hinted at in the upcoming Release Preview, most of them will not yet be publicly available. You’ll see them all in the final release of Windows 8!
I am so disappointed that they didn't make Media Center a metro app. If you're going to make a huge fucking deal about it being a paid feature, why not actually spend time on it rather than just cut and paste it from Windows 7?

I think it has potential, but I imagine that people who'll use media center will probably be desktop users.
I'm sure they'll be great 3rd party Metro solutions though.

Also there's a bit of an overlap with the Music and Video apps.
So theres no replacement for that shitty Windows 7 Starter for netbooks?
I hope so because I really doubt Windows 7 Starter was any better for netbooks than like home premium.
I mean, not allowing people to change the desktop wallpaper but do allow them to put in gadgets that use up way more resources than a picture. how stupid is that.

I'll be at MS this summer making apps. Is this something a lot of people want?

I'm probably one of the very few people that use Windows Media Center on a daily basis. I would definitely use it, but in terms of "a lot of people" wanting it, I doubt it.
In the event that you do, please make something like my mock-up.

Well you're in luck. There is a new logo.

I don't know if I like this, I fear people won't recognize this logo unlike the flags
At least include the red, green, blue and yellow colours
I think it's the skew I don't like.
