Consider the target for HTML5 is (or was) something like 2023, you don't even need to add "Most likely" to that sentence.
2014 actually
Consider the target for HTML5 is (or was) something like 2023, you don't even need to add "Most likely" to that sentence.
They are getting it ready to leave working draft and are about to call for final additions. Taking that long to make a standard is pointless and I think that is when they will probably be further along (html 7 or 8 or some other number)
Did the metro snap-capable resolution change after the Dev Preview? The tablet PC I want to buy has a resolution of 1280x800, which is less than 1366x768 (the minimum resolution supporting snap), but is shown with snap capabilities in the video below.
Not to start a shitstorm or anything, but I find Calibri disgusting.
Meh, I only listed it because I couldn't think of any other general UI fonts that look nice to me. That, and in my opinion it's a massive upgrade over the default Times New Roman in the newest Word versions.
Comic Sans forever

It looks like a really good Tablet PC for the price. i5 2.5GHZ, 4GB RAM, 320GB HDD, 720P Webcam, and a Wacom pressure sensitive digitizer / touch screen.
Arial, Tahoma and Calibri are the best fonts ever made IMO
Calibri sure. Tahoma somewhat. But seriously Arial? On top of that None of those fonts are good for UI elements. You're also forgetting verdana. As to interfaces as small as possible - We've been there. And generally speaking for information rich interfaces that's not a very good aproaches. As once you have more information the user essentially needs a magnifying glass (very evident on smaller screens) or the developers adds a way to show more of the information via popups or other tabs or similar. As to that Maemo 5 VS - It looks outdated just by taking a glance at it.

Is there any chance maybe in the near future they'll release windows tablets with 3g/4g capabilities? I'm interested to see what that could bring

But there seems to be some kind of issue with the glass separating from the body which completely turned me off of it. I'm sure after 8 goes GA we'll see a bunch of Windows 8 capable tablets.
You don't need to be a programmer to hate the feel of Metro and its apps. You do, however, need to be technically apt if you're going to say something like "I don't like x86 going away though, I like it!!" because otherwise you're just basing your assertion on what's essentially brand loyalty.
My point is that "hating" Metro apps in itself does not make sense. I suppose if you're forced to use Metro apps over a desktop alternative app, then I'd understand. I can however, understand if someone disliked the style of the apps or using said apps on their laptop or desktop.
So does anyone with a Windows Phone. What you're talking about is carrier or device specific. Plus it's not like MS can cut 2/3rd of the staff, they'll just be working on the same project.
Windows phone tends to have less of a gap between phones. For example, every Windows phone right now can, and does run Mango.
Not really, no. They might be impressive if you compare to Vista, but Windows is a requirements cow compared to most other OSes.
Windows 8: 1GHz processor, 1GB Ram, 16GB HDD, Dx9 support. Ubuntu: 700 Mhz processor, 512 Mb ram, 5 Gb hdd. I can't understand who has a computer that can't meet these requirements. Any computer sold within the past 5 years meets these requirements.
I'm hoping they aimed at better than that. It'd be pathetic if they didn't.
Why would they lower the requirements even more? Computing platforms are getting faster, and Microsoft can't push new technology or features if the speed of the hardware does not increase. They set these limits because they want consumers to actually upgrade their 10+ year old machines.
Any chance that it can be disabled?
I'm sure someone will find a way. It just looks like it's flash for the browser though, so it won't impact system performance. Chrome also bundles flash by default.
It'll impact browser perfomance on lower end machines
It'll impact browser perfomance on lower end machines
Shouldn't if MS curates the minimum hardware well enough.
Segoe is gorgeous. I mean: At one point I got an extension for Chrome to force it globally. It didn't really work out for sites with custom fonts (such as the Verge) but Google's sites ended up looking 1000x better.

It even has good distinction between I-l and O-0.
I swear to god if they pull a Vista and start making games exclusive to the OS I am going to chew off something's balls.
I swear to god if they pull a Vista and start making games exclusive to the OS I am going to chew off something's balls.
Only apps that run in the metro interface and use the windows store. Unless the windows store is coming to windows 7
Windows phone tends to have less of a gap between phones. For example, every Windows phone right now can, and does run Mango.
Well Mango was a small refresh, we'll see with the next one.
I can't understand who has a computer that can't meet these requirements. Any computer sold within the past 5 years meets these requirements.
People don't necessarily want to upgrade every 5 years. Windows 7 scales "enough", but if they cut down the requirements even more it's sweet (and it makes Windows a more attractive choice for a HTPC). Plus it makes everyone's experience better when the base requirements are lower.
Computing platforms are getting faster
And are then slowed down by the software... but that's a programmer thing.
"Mango was a small refresh" - what?
"Mango was a small refresh" - what?
It was more of a jump like between android 2 and 2.3 Not like between 2.3 and ICS.
It was more of a jump like between android 2 and 2.3 Not like between 2.3 and ICS.
It introduced multitasking, a new browser, new search functions, updated camera app, and a lot of other small stuff, plus some stability improvements. While it may not have featured a new UI (and here I'll argue that it didn't need one), it was far from minor. And the difference between 2.0 and 2.3 are pretty huge as well, so big that they apparently needed to spread it out between 3 versions.

They mean something to you. I can estimate how hard it is to write what you listed and what the effect would be on the phone, and it should definitely count as a small refresh for a phone OS (otherwise MS is doing something seriously wrong). It shouldn't require a massive jump in hardware. Thus my point that we should wait until WP8 to really see what's up.
When's the RC expected again? End of the month isn't it?
First week of June.
When's the RC expected again? End of the month isn't it?
Next Friday apparently.
Then it's time to say goodbye to Windows 7 [sp]for now[/sp]
Perhaps i'm gonna install the RC version on my laptop since the windows 7 installation is kinda slow ( still the original asus image that came with it ). And probably replace this consumer preview installation with that if easily possible..
