Yeah, I doubt your run-of-the-mill PC user is really going to be in Regedit and I would argue an that experienced user wouldn't either. And I also doubt that if they were to deal with something like that they really wouldn't care because regedit isn't supposed to be pretty/user-friendly in the first place.
That's just a terrible excuse. Regedit is just one example anyway, doesn't take a genius to find more.
I'd also say that if you're in a user-unfriendly application with the potential to really mess up everything you shouldn't have inviting graphics as the rest of your computer does. It's kind of a subtle, "Get out of here, dude!" to the rest of the world.
But regedit is supposed to be usable just like any other user application. There's nothing special about it.
Anyway, this stuff is important so that's why people notice and comment on it.
I can't wait to get my convertible Tablet. That way I can review 8 from both perspectives - both touch as well as in the traditional laptop form. I don't think I've seen more than 1 person show off 8 from the tablet side here.
Doesn't work and there are no workarounds in the dev preview, I've tried to do everything in my tablet with the same resolution and it just doesn't work
Fuck. Wonder how they got it to work in the video?
Fuck. Wonder how they got it to work in the video?
Probably fucked with some files/registry to force it

This is how the desktop should look in W8 in my opinion
Yeah it's glass, but almost everything is flat and solid-colored, plus the windows/buttons have squared corners so it doesn't clash with the whole Metro thing, and in my opinion looks infinitely better than what Microsoft are planning for the default desktop UI
I much prefer that over Microsoft's. It keeps their purposed style while not introducing a big change.
hmm new fonts?

just noticed that after I plugged in my tablet.

Chinese x64 RC leaked. Though someone tinkered with the WIM file and broke it. :v:
RC comes out the first week of june anyways doesn't it?
RC comes out the first week of june anyways doesn't it?
In 3 days.
RC comes out the first week of june anyways doesn't it?
Correct. I wish it would come out this Friday :(

cool just in time for my new computer ~~~

According to Paul Thurrott's sources and other people with other sources it is.
Oops, I meant customer preview, It works fine with a registry hack in the Dev Preview
I was going to say. It's dumb that they're limiting it to 1366x768. If it works just fine in 1280x800 (which is one of the most common resolutions for older tablets!) why can't they allow it? :/

I'm the kind of person that likes as much minimalism as sanity calls for anyway, so I've got a big bias. I mean, I don't really need any visual frills for things like that. They're serving their purpose and I'm not in them all the time.
I mean if you were to go along with what you're saying, you could comment on a usable program like Command Prompt looking the same for forever. The average joe isn't in it all the time, it does it's job, and like I said the more it looks uninviting the more people are going to stray away from using it without knowing what they're doing.
What's in my face most of the time is fair-game (explorer, for instance) and I guess I just haven't noticed any of the inconsistencies you're talking about.
Anyway, this stuff is important so that's why people notice and comment on it.
Also, I'm not sure if you mistook me but I'm not looking to belittle you or argue angrily or anything like that. I'm just pointing out how I look at it.

Looking through the RC's theme files and it looks like Aero's format is still the same (the new properties aren't used), so chances are good that bringing back Aero to the RTM is just but an msstyles edit away.
I think it's more because they want to set a new standard in general. They want to force people to kick it up a notch and turn anything below 1336 x 768 into the new 800 x 600. Not saying it's right, though.

Didn't they say we won't see the new changes until RTM? RC still has transparent windows.

Does it include English or is it Chinese only?

While I can see why people would want to use their old tablets, 1366x768 is starting to be a bit old, and lower resolutions than that really need to go.

I'm talking about the structure not the appearance.
I'm talking about the structure not the appearance.
What's to say the structure won't change by RTM?
What's to say the structure won't change by RTM?
Why would Microsoft reprogram DWM when the current one works just fine? Think about all the programs that use the dwmapi, they would all break. It makes no logical sense for them to reprogram DWM just to stop transparency.
Code wise, and compatibility wise it makes no sense. Especially when the current v4 msstyles is still being updated. The would have to be running 2 versions of DWM side by side to show that shot they did in the blog.
do we even know that they are removing aero for sure?
that could be the final version of aero lite/basic/whatever
Anybody else stuck at 98.4% on the torrent?
Anybody else stuck at 98.4% on the torrent?
Yeah, looks like the whole list of peers are just about. There's not actual seeder. Which is a problem.
Well that was short-lived... It appears to still be a Beta (Consumer Preview), and there is no option to skip the product key entry, like Windows 7 gives you.
I'm just going to wait a few days for the official release, but leaks are still cool to check out.

There's a key somewhere on the internet and one of the files on the DVD. Though if you just torrented it you need to fix the WIM first or else it'll give you an error 50% in.

Not worth my time. I'm pretty tired tonight, and just wanted to see what I could mess with in Virtualbox.
Bah, any idea how to fix the image.WIM? As for the key, I have found nothing while browsing the DVD. I suppose I'll just wait if I can't find anything through Google soon.
