How to fix the latest leak in one easy step!:
Wait for it to be released by microsoft.
Bah, any idea how to fix the image.WIM? As for the key, I have found nothing while browsing the DVD. I suppose I'll just wait if I can't find anything through Google soon.
Should be in product.ini. Use Core or Pro.
core: 2H7NK-3VJJY-HHY3Y-WM3T8-JFCRY
pro: GCNRF-BHBCM-W9YWM-VWQP6-TJBWR

Wait for third-party theming apps to update.

Lucky you just had a BSOD. There are others where on reboot it just reinstalled or went through some hour long process to restore windows.
There's a program called Resource Spy (it isn't complete and needs to be updated to work with Windows 8) that intercepts the resource loading so you can load custom UIFILEs without modifying the actual dll file.
Microsoft accidently fucked up and prematurely released a blog post confirming that Release Preview will be available tomorrow (May 31st GMT -8:00).

I won't even install until 2014 when I have a blazing fast computer with a blazing fast SSD
I'm not even going to get it till I get a tablet computer
because it looks so good on a tablet
I'm just going to continue to use the test bed of Splashtop on my iPad. It really is as smooth as having it on my iPad, I'm impressed with the software.
God damn it release it Microsoft! I'm eager to see the UI changes in the desktop. Hopefully they'll drop the aero icons altogether, which would amazing.
I have to admit that I am quite eager too, despite the fact that I am not really a fan of the Metro menu. Everything else just sound so awesome.
BTW. Does anyone know if the image drive was actually implemented, or was it just a rumor?

I like the aero icons though, infact I like the whole windows live feel (or vista era), it felt more appealing imo. Metro is okay but I will always cherish windows live

I used to love it at the time Vista came out, but honestly it looks dated already (and a bit cheesy too, you know.. the whole glossy, fake glass rendering). Metro feels clean, modern, light. That's what I want the whole Windows environment to be.
[editline]31st May 2012[/editline]
I also want full metro apps to have elements (buttons, text etc..) that scale appropiately to the screen size if you're using mouse and keyboard. The metro apps look just too big and it's really overwhelming to have these big buttons all over the screen. seems space wasteful. (that is, when you're using a mouse. On touch interfaces it looks perfect)

I like metro on WP7, and I liked it in W8CP, something changed with me though I don't know what but now I'm starting to get into the vista shit. Probably because I've been using Microsoft Office and the live products
The RC is actually coming out today according to an accidental post from Microsoft.
Welcome to the Windows 8 Hardware blog! I’m Chuck Chan,
Corporate Vice President on the Windows Development team. We’re very excited to
make available today the Windows 8 Release Preview on the Windows Dev Center. Windows 8 represents a leap forward for the Windows platform, the
development tool set, and the device experiences you can build for Windows.
We’re launching this blog to give you some insight into how we designed and
built Windows 8, and to explore the best practices for developing great
hardware and drivers, as you enter the new world of Windows 8 development.
The people contributing to this blog are the engineers
building Windows 8 and the tools and kits that support it. Our goal is to help
you get started by focusing on the “why” and “how” of building amazing PCs and
device experiences for Windows 8. Each blog post will present a development
topic and tie together information from the Dev Center, Forums, MSDN Library, and where it makes sense, samples from the Windows Hardware Code Gallery.
We designed the Windows 8 platform and tools to help you
create high-quality drivers and Metro style device apps using an integrated,
modern tool set. Using the Windows Driver Kit (WDK) and Visual Studio, you can
write, build, sign package, deploy, test, and debug your drivers and apps
directly from Visual Studio. With the new Windows Hardware Certification Kit,
you can ensure the compatibility and reliability of your devices, and provide a
great overall user experience.
To get started, download and install Windows 8 Release Preview, the Windows Driver Kit 8, and Visual Studio Professional 2012. The Windows 8 SDK is also included with Visual Studio. As you begin using Windows 8, you’ll
notice that we’ve added new features and improved existing ones. In addition to
providing a modern tool set, we’ve also been hard at work improving power
management and refining the way you provide a great user experience for devices
with Metro style device apps. We’ll share more
details in future posts.
The Windows Development team will post to this blog once
every one to two weeks until the release of Windows 8. Commenting is
encouraged, and we are looking forward to a lively conversation. Please apply
common courtesy and stay on topic with your comments. The Windows Hardware Community Forum is also a great place for hardware-related questions and discussion about
Windows 8.
We can’t wait to see the amazing devices and experiences
you’re building for Windows 8 come to life!

So can this OS still be called Windows, if they are killing windows?
Edit: they are moving away from the 'windows' idea. I know they aren't killing them just yet, and they probably wouldn't kill them in windows 9, but still, it will happen sooner or later.

Oops. Didn't show up as a new post to me.
Microsoft is near me, in the Pacific Northwest. So everyone will get it late. :/
Anybody see the facepunch thread on Microsoft supposedly killing the option for third-party programs to create a windows start button?
I'm curious over what the controversy is. Isn't the metro UI supposed to essentially BE the start menu? Do people just not really like the look of it, or what?
Any major differences between Release Preview and consumer preview?

The controversy is that someone posted an sensationalist article over there and everyone only read the thread title and started shitting their pants. End of controversy

A few UI tweaks, app updates, and improvements for users with a keyboard and mouse is what I know of.

Yes metro is the new start screen but people want the option to disable it because the old one works allot better for keyboard and mouse. Start menu > Start screen on the desktop + metro is ugly IMO.

Mind telling us how the old menu works better? I can do everything I did in the start menu in the same amount of time and steps using the Start Screen.
My only gripe with Windows 8 is Metro being forced, instead of optional. Being the default is fine, but at least give us the option to work around it if we so desire.

You can still bring it back with third party programs. I'm not entirely sure what code they removed but it's still easy to add back a 3rd party start menu.
