One thing if microsoft is deleting support for start button then HOW THE FUCK are we supposed to open stuff like "My Computer" whatever its called and as well search files?

Explorer is pinned to the taskbar by default.
Searching is the same as before. Click the bottom left corner or strike the windows key and start typing.
no, he means programs. as in shortcuts. it's exactly the fucking same as the original start menu
[editline]31st May 2012[/editline]
also lmao at that stupid fucking distinction you made
How is it a stupid distinction? For example, IE10 is available as a program or a as a stupid metro "app" depending on whether or not you launch it from the Start screen. The metro app has absolutely fuck-all buttons or menus, just dumbed down touch screen stuff. I don't have a touch screen tablet so why even give me that?

What buttons and menus do you need that it doesn't have?

View source, print, save as, view image properties... even bookmarks seem to be gone and replaced with "pin to start screen"; I don't want to pin everything I bookmark to the start screen.
My basic problem is that Microsoft thought "let's mash two different operating systems together so we don't have to work on both". Windows 7 and Windows Phone 7 were different for a reason. It's like mashing together Android and Ubuntu. Who the hell would use "Andruntu"?
View source, print, save as, view image properties... even bookmarks seem to be gone and replaced with "pin to start screen"; I don't want to pin everything I bookmark to the start screen.
How often do you really use view source, print, save as (this is still here for images), and image properties?
Okay, I might not use them every single day, but I still don't want to have two different applications... "oh, now that I want to print something I have to switch to desktop, then open IE10 normal edition, then load the same URL, then print"... it's not intuitive. I just don't see the point of Metro IE10 (or most Metro apps) on a desktop.
Even Chrome is trying to cash in on the "app" hype by having a Chrome App Store instead of normal extensions.
EDIT: Okay, I'll admit some of the functionality still exists as keyboard shortcuts. For example, I can print in Metro IE10 by pressing Ctrl+P. But that's not my point.
Another example: as a desktop user, I expect a regular context menu when I right-click, not a phone/tablet style bottom menu. Now I have to move my mouse all the way to the bottom of the screen when I right-click. Good for tablets, useless for desktops.
put it on a usb stick and boot from usb
Yeah, I booted into my Linux partition, and my DVD drive is dead. :(
I booted Windows 8 from the USB stick, and it works fine. But Virtualbox hangs on the "Windows" black screen, and won't do anything but sit there. I have the latest version too. I want to try it out in Virtualbox before installing it to my main PC.

How long did you wait? For me it took quite a while before it did anything.

Pick a choice, any choice.
I thought I could upgrade from the Custom Preview, no problem...

You will never be allowed to upgrade from betas or previews or RC's easily
[editline]1st June 2012[/editline]
I am just going to upgrade to 8 from 7. Need a break from seeing all this crap with my practice tests
Anyone who installs a beta over their working Windows 7 or spends a lot of effort installing things in a beta is going to have a bad time.

I am already installing it right now. I just need to get onto a OS i dont know much about and that will never be covered in my tests next week to keep my sanity. I will worry about the rest after my test.

that means there is about to be a restart oh no
late, but its a very nice idea for a desktop interface.

Install Linux, and you can make it easily.
I wonder if windows 8 will cause a resurgence of custom shells?
I really don't like how all of these major OSes are ditching menus for searchbars. Ubuntu sort of did it with Unity, Windows 8 did it completely, and Mac OS is headed in that direction. If I wanted to search for a fucking app, I'd search for it. Until then, give me back my menus for daily use. I sure hope for my sanity's sake that Stardock's Start8 gets updated (Or still works) in Release Preview.

I think it would be neat to create an open-source explorer.exe that gives us back the classic stuff we love, much like MATE does for Gnome 2 fans.

I like the 7 start menu. It gives me enough info but if I want more, I just have to press a button. Besides if you had too much crap in your programs folder, that scrolling thing was the worst thing ever.
Ok, I just saw something weird in the Windows 8 page:

notice it's the old flag shape. Did microsoft ditch the new design after the backlash against it?
I believe that may just be a placeholder or seeing as windows 8's logo represents tiles, using it as a logo for windows xp, vista and 7 would be stupid because none of those systems use metro, they use aero (but XP)
However if they include the flags instead of tiles it'd be better imo, nobody knows about the new one
goodbye 7 im restarting and you will go away until i reinstall you
Neat: Flash Player now gets updated via Windows Update: http://www.neowin.net/news/more-information-on-windows-8-and-flash-support-leaked
I just got an idea, perhaps the tiles are only for windows 8 because they represent the tiles to go to start.
http://classicshell.sourceforge.net/index.html
Ooooh, windows 8 is starting to look viable.
Okay, so I've played with Metro apps on multiple monitors and one thing is immediately apparent: you can't use two Metro apps on two screens. Drag the app over to another monitor and all of Metro snaps to that monitor.
First bluescreen from a page fault and it decided that the upgrade failed
Well fuck you too
why are you not just installing to another partition, i mean seriously
Is it easy to uninstall Win8?
I just want to try it out for a bit, not keep it for forever.
why are you not just installing to another partition, i mean seriously
Because for the past two months I have looked at 7 too much and I dont want to look at it anymore until AFTER my certification tests damnit.

If it is on a new partition then yes.
