Is it easy to uninstall Win8?
I just want to try it out for a bit, not keep it for forever.
Depends what you mean by "easy". I wouldn't recommend doing an upgrade install at this point.
But here is how you would "uninstall": http://support.microsoft.com/kb/971760
Is it possible to just run the Win8 setup out of Win7 and get Win8 without problems or should I really burn the setup to a disk and format my C: first?
It used to not bother me but people calling the start screen "Metro" is now starting to. Metro is a design language/idea/concept. Not the start screen.
But it is fitting.
As soon as you leave the start screen, you leave the Metro user interface - along with its design language, ideas, concepts, and interface patterns - and return to the traditional windowed desktop user interface. Start Screen is based on Metro UI paradigms while the desktop uses conventional windowed interface paradigms.
Sure it's called the 'start screen', but it's understanding that users articulate the two contrasting interfaces when it's at the core of what makes the user experience so different between the two.

One single fuckup and its back to 7

Well, the new basic UI is very much inspired by Metro, even when it might not be big boxes and large text. And Panda made a point about that you don't call the current start menu "The Aero".
Holy shit, they changed the cursors.
Holy shit, they changed the cursors.
Very subtle change but I like it.
It appears that the blue colour scheme doesn't match the blue colour scheme of my Windows Phone.
1/10 blue not blue enough
I installed Windows 8 in a VM in VirtualBox, then it rebooted to prepare the installation and VirtualBox crashed, also corrupting the VM.
Did they change anything worth mentioning, or mostly just polishing?
Are the Metro apps still useless in terms of functionality?

Are you using the 64 bit version? I noticed that seems to screw up in vbox, use the 32 bit version if so.. it seems to work okay for me. Yes they changed quite a bit of stuff and yes metro apps don't have much functionality.

Polishing so far, didn't find any stuff, except for minor UI changes.

So far everything seems to screw up in vbox.
Just now I tried installing Arch Linux (32 bit) but VirtualBox likes to crash in the middle of system installs/upgrades.
So far I am really impressed with the RP. All the apps that seemed useless are now some of the best things that have ever happened to a tablet user. I can't even use the standard IE on the desktop...the metro one is just so much better on a tablet.
The one thing I don't like so far is that I can't get flash to work in IE10 Metro. I thought it was included? I'm getting a box with a red X in the corner, which I'm assuming means no flash. Desktop IE10 works fine.

So in 7 I can call the start menu "the aero"? Or the taskbar "the aero"? Or explorer "the aero"?
Aero, like Metro, is also a design language/concept/idea, yet we don't call anything in 7 Aero except the theme (which is actually called Aero).
Here's my bullshit uneducated opinion about Metro:
Normal desktop UIs are based around files. You have a desktop with some folders and files, an explorer for managing then. Even the old start menu is mostly about files (the entire right side, for example, takes the user to various folders).
Metro, iOS, Android, webOS - any popular (well, excluding webOS) mobile UI is based around apps. In many of them you don't even get a file explorer - there is no file management, apps are supposed to take care of that.
On a desktop, the usual way to open and edit a file is: File explorer -> Open the file -> Use the program (app)
On a phone or a tablet it's like this: Launch an app (program) -> Find the file in there
Microsoft is attempting to turn a file based UI into an app (program) based one, something that even Apple isn't doing, even though they are currently blurring the line between iOS and Mac OS.
Microsoft is being pretty subtle about this, at least, but I am completely sure that soon enough they will remove the desktop mode from tablets, and desktop will probably lose it too - "Desktop" exists like a separate app (program?), even though it can't be that hard to allow desktop programs to use Metro app features, like snapping and etc.
I don't really agree, you can just pin your folders on the start menu, and actually a load of them. In my opinion, the new start menu actually makes it easier to manage your files. Instead of having a bunch of folders on my desktop, I can have them in a seperate group on the start menu. That way, when I have several program open (that I want to keep in view), instead of clicking in the down-right corner, I press the Windows key, and I have access to several different folders that contain notes for different schools subjects. When I press open a folder, I still have the window hierachy on my desktop untouched, and it didn't take me more than a second or two.

Oh damn, I didn't know about that :v:

That's assuming you use Metro apps rather than the desktop. The start menu can still be used to launch folders, and you can still type in file paths into the search box and it be added to the MFU and you can open it.
The only time the desktop is used like an app is if you sidebar it, otherwise it's just the desktop. It's not separate as the start screen is still part of Explorer. It just loads some bits later when you go to the desktop to preserve memory (why load the taskbar if you aren't using the desktop for example).
will the win8 Release preview update to all newer versions of the RP until win8 gets launched or will i have to download more .iso's in the future?
Great, Windows broke again. It happens less now that I installed some drivers, but it's still happening, which is really annoying. I have no idea what to do.
What happened to that brightness slider that you could get like the volume slider?
I'm pretty sure it was around in some very early versions.

Ok, finally got in Windows 8 and I can say I like it a lot more. It's faster, more stable, the apps are better. There are a few annoyances, but it's really great.
I wish I had the drivers for trackpad gestures
The RP is so polished. The hot corners aren't fucking up anymore and work very well with the mouse as well as touch.
My only gripe is that I can't seem to get flicks working with the pen input. I think it's a tablet problem though.
The Release Preview seems so much better than the consumer preview.
Most likely I might even end up getting a final copy.
The UI refreshing seems to die after some use, like that hot corner bug in the DP/CP.
Essentially I'm just getting this: http://facepunch.com/showthread.php?t=1160316&p=36147403&viewfull=1#post36147403

I'm pretty sure that's what you call the feature were you hover over a window / the button on the task bar and all the others go transparent not the start menu.

Aero peek is something very specific, and it's not the start menu.

It annoys me that they didn't keep it in the small battery pop-up beyond some pre-beta builds. Seemed fucking convenient, and the current set-up with two options that leads to the same menu makes no sense.

I was referring to the fact that Aero is still used as a brand, which is what I assumed the post was referring to, not just the start menu component. Panda's post referencing Aero being the theme as the only reference to Aero was what I was emphasizing.
