I was referring to the fact that Aero is still used as a brand, which is what I assumed the post was referring to, not just the start menu component. Panda's post referencing Aero being the theme as the only reference to Aero was what I was emphasizing.
But Aero peek itself has nothing to do with the start menu, and it isn't like Microsoft can't introduce a feature with Metro in the name. Metro and Aero are both design languages, and they should stay like that. Calling it the "Metro start menu" would also just be referring to that it's the Metro version of the start menu, while just "Metro" would eb wrong.
posting from windows 8!
lol the full screen start menu is a minor hassle, but its not as bad as everyone thinks it is
Am I the only one who hates this 'app' shpeal? I hate the term.
I still believe they should be called "programs" or "applications". Sure, app is just short for application, but it sounds too mobile. I just hate it.
It's nothing that triggers my OCD, so whatever. Just call them programs. It kinda does differentiate the desktop programs from the metro applications.
I have created an x64 UxTheme patch: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/2073343/UxTheme%20x64.zip

Neat, theming in 8 you can remove the side borders finally.
The UI refreshing seems to die after some use, like that hot corner bug in the DP/CP.
Essentially I'm just getting this: http://facepunch.com/showthread.php?t=1160316&p=36147403&viewfull=1#post36147403
It's related to drivers, a guy on eightforums seemed to be able to determine how, but he got banned.

I don't think it's specific to just the drivers, since you're on Nvidia and I'm on AMD.
One way to determine would be to have Speccy show what device it is currently detecting, but since actually running it makes everything slowly die, I'm not sure how can that be done.

Does that still happen in the RC?
It happens WAY more often in the RC
Neat there's an option in the folder options to hide folder merge conflicts. Thank god, I always found that stupid. Just show me the files that I'll be overwriting, not the folders.
So installing from Win7 is a no-go?

Windows Classic just refuses to die, haha.
(not my screenshot, by the way)
Does anyone use Spotify with Windows 8? On my laptop it refuses to play a new song after pausing - the entire program has to be rebooted for it to continue playing.

I've fell back into Classic but DWM still composited it so you'd get a mix of transparency and classic. Where's this image from?

Oh god, incoming OSX themes!
Oh god, incoming OSX themes!
At least when OSX themes come to 8, the frames won't look like shit like they do in 7. Or have to use an internal buggy version of DWM just to use the HideBlur test key.
Atleast this is a better version of the OSX theme

lmao i can't believe there are honestly people who get upset at that
So in 7 I can call the start menu "the aero"? Or the taskbar "the aero"? Or explorer "the aero"?
Aero, like Metro, is also a design language/concept/idea, yet we don't call anything in 7 Aero except the theme (which is actually called Aero).
I think of it like this:
Aero is a theme.
Metro is a UI paradigm, much like Windows.
Sure, Windows is also the name of the OS but the name itself comes from the fact that everything exists within its own window. Applications, folders, etc. Metro strays away from this and is an entirely new UI. Aero is not it's own UI like Metro is. It's just a theme placed on the Windows paradigm.
The way I see it, when you're on the desktop using desktop applications, you're within the Windows UI. When you're on the start screen using Metro applications, you're within the Metro UI.
Went to install 8 on my desktop when suddenly:

Uh...
So after an in place upgrade and downgrading back to Windows 7 graphics drivers, I'm running 8 fine.
Interesting issues with apps though. I previously linked my Google account with Windows 8 Dev preview, and they apparently don't carry over. On the other note, though, starting mail, people, or basically any other app that might pull data from it just crashes on load (splash screen, then back to start). Desktop apps are what I use primarily, but it's kinda odd that I can't use literally any of the built in apps side store or xbox one.
I can't get Windows 8 32-bit to work in Virtualbox for the life of me... Can somebody share with me their Vbox configurations? Screenshots preferably.
for the love of all that is holy, use VMWare Player

Don't install in a VM, the experience is horrendous and should not be judged.
It works great in VMware.

I have had absolutely no problems out of in VirtualBox, in my personal experience. I've ran it in the background while using my computer, with splashtop running so I was VNC'd into it on my iPad. Not a bit of performance issues.
What I want now is being able to tell windows what screen I want metro to default to (In this case my smaller second monitor) so that I just get booted straight to the desktop.
